Case Study of Physiotherapy Treatment of a Patient After Stroke
Kofránková, Vlasta ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Hrdý, Tomáš (referee)
Title: Case Study of Physiotherapy Treatment of a Patient After Stroke Objective: To evaluate the effects of physiotherapy care on the patient. Methods: The first general part provides the description of the desease itself, its pre- valence in the Czech Republic, etiopathogenesis, clinical features, prognosis and current therapeutic approaches in acute, sub-chronic and chronic stages. Recommendations for primary prevention of cerebrovascular accident are described. Post-stroke patients with permanent disabilities run high risk of falling. Some selected methods (tests) are presented to evaluate the patient's balance ability (e.g. Berg Balance Scale, BESTest). The special part of this work presents a case study of a post-stroke patient, the course of the therapy and an evaluation of its effects. Results: The physiotherapy care has led to improvements of gross and fine motor skills and increased the patient's independence in everyday living. Balance ability of the patient is evaluated using the BESTest. Conclusion: It is important to maintain optimal health, independence and self- suffi- ciency of patients in the chronic stage. Specially developed functional tests can be used to evaluate the patient's condition and to choose an effective therapy. Keywords: cerebrovascular accident, brainstem stroke, falls...
How to efficiently count birds in tropical rainforest?
Hrdý, Tomáš ; Sedláček, Ondřej (advisor) ; Telenský, Tomáš (referee)
Tropical rainforest has one of the richest diversity on Earth. At the same time it is a complex and confusing enviroment, which makes estimation of lokal diversities and species abundance very hard. This literature review compare frequency, effectivness and suitability of each metod, which are used to detect diversity and abundance in tropical rainforest. It compares autors reasons why do they use a specific method, in what kind of enviroment and what for was that methodology used in their study. Review presents even a few tropical rainforest specifications, which are not taken into account by current methods, eventhough they could have an large effect on quality and completeness of data sample. At the end it compares the most commonly used techniques (point - count and mist - net) and justifies their possible combinations. In conclusion it mention the usage of recording devices as a suitable completion to research. Key words: Birds, point-count, line transect, mist-net, methodology, tropical forest

Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biophysics and Physical Chemistry Candidate: Tomáš Hrdý, DiS. Consultant: Ing.Vladimír Kubíček, CSc. Title of Thesis: Utilization of Columns Filled by Pellicular Particles for Analysis of Benzimidazoles The goal of the diploma thesis was to determine the most suitable mobile phase composition for chromatographic determination of albendazole (ABZ), albendazole sulphoxide (ABZSO) and albendazole sulfone (ABZSO2). Oxibendazole (OXI) was selected as internal standard and separations were studied on Kinetex PFP 100 mm x 4.6 mm, 2.6 micron column packed with pellicular particles. Four different mobile phases were studied. Each of them was tested at four different component ratios. The optimal mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile and phosphate buffer (pH = 7.0).
Clinical evaluation of postural balance functions in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Hrdý, Tomáš ; Smolíková, Libuše (advisor) ; Špaňhelová, Šárka (referee)
Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common chronic respiratory diseases. Impairments in exercise capacity, kinesiology and skeletal muscle function are well established in these patients. Recently presented data also suggests impairments in postural balance and increased risk of falls in patients with COPD. The aim of this study is to examine postural balance functions in a group of patients and compare the results with a control group. Methods: Twelve patients (the average age 65,6 ± 7,1, 5 women, 7 men) with COPD hospitalized at the Pulmonary Clinic at the Faculty Hospital, Prague Motol and 10 healthy control subjects (the average age 58,6 ± 5,2, 7 women, 3 men) participated in this study. Participants were measured by The Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC) and The Balance Evaluation Systems Test (BESTest). Results: COPD patients scored significantly worse (0,0099, p < 0,05) on the ABC scale total score compared to healthy controls, 78,38 ± 21,14 for COPD versus 97,78 ± 3,88 for controls. The total score and the six subsystem categories score of the BESTest were lower in COPD patients, but not significantly, compared to controls. Conclusion: Patients with COPD showed a lower degree of balance confidence and postural balance functions....
Physiotherapy of scar in prevention and treatment of functional disorders
HRDÝ, Tomáš
The topic of the thesis is "Scar physiotherapy in the prevention and treatment of functional disorders." A scar is an inferior connective tissue resulting by the healing process, in various depths of soft tissues of various etiologies. A scar can never reach the original rheological properties of the given tissue, it is a regeneration product, replacing the original damaged tissue. A scar is physiologically healed into a thin, pale hair line, which does not affect local shunt and protraction abilities of soft tissues moving in accordance with the osteoarticular apparatus. If the healing process does not happen physiologically, a pathological scar is created, that scar can often become active, having a negative impact not only on its immediate vicinity, but also reflexively on the whole postural-locomotor system of the individual. The thesis is a comprehensive view on the scar as another "organ ", the activity of which can manifest itself in postural and movement patterns of the person. In the study the connection of a scar and its neurophysiological chaining are discussed, where an active scar may cause local changes in the muscle tone, skin sensitivity, it can lead to dysfunctions of internal organs and a limited mobility of the locomotive segment with the afferent link to the central level of motor control. Overlooking a scar as a possible provoking segment of a pathogenetic chain can lead to the failure of therapy and the relapse of symptoms. The method of this study was qualitative research based on a deliberate (purpose) data collection. The data were obtained by the method of observation, interview, document analysis and kinesiologic examination. The research group consisted of 4 probands, in which an activity of a scar at different levels of soft tissues linked to postural-locomotor system was found by examination. On the basis of continuous and a final examinations of the probands, the research questions were answered. The results show that appropriately selected techniques of physiotherapy had a positive effect on the health condition of a given patient. Using continuous and meaningful therapy including manual medicine techniques, physical therapy, balneology and pharmacology, the activity of the scar tissue with all its consequences was mitigated or completely stopped. The outcomes of the study can be used by physiotherapists as well as other members of the medical staff, and may also serve to physicians in differential-diagnostic considerations.
