Clement of Rome: his personality, work and place in the christian tradition
Török, Dan ; Suchánek, Drahomír (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
In my work I deal with the personality of Clement of Rome and with the importance of his work. Firstly, I express my opinion about the date of Clement's activity, so I am able to put Clement into the historical context of early Christianity. Then, on the basis of both survey of the previous research and my own analysis I am trying to solve the question, who Clement was - with main interest in the question of his origin. The work also aims on classifying Clement's place in the development of Christian tradition. Thus I deal with the question of Clement's relationship to apostole Paul and his teaching and the problem of Clement's work and activity as the most important member of third generation of Christians. In the end, I am using the results to create a draft of the situation of Christianity in Clement's era and to propose questions suitable for future research.

The aim of my final bachelor thesis is to portray the life of František Štverák (1909-1956), a Czech catholic priest, who actively participated in the resistance against Nazi occupant regime. In spring 1940 he was arrested and interrogated by the gestapo. He experienced various concentration camps (Dachau, Sachsenhausen) surviving numerous life threatening situations under severe conditions. In April 1945 he lived to see the liberation of Dachau by the US army. In autumn that year he witnessed the trial of Nazi criminal from Dachau. After the communist revolution in February 1948 he stood up against the restraint of rights of the catholic Church in Czechoslovakia and its gradual liquidation. As a close collaborator of archbishop Josef Beran he was arrested in June 1949. During the period of custody he went through several communist prisons (Praha-Pankrác, Valdice-Kartouzy, Praha-Ruzyně). In January 1951 František Štverák was sentenced to twenty months in one of the many staged trial of catholic clerks and seculars. After having served his punishment he was held in internment (monasteries Želiv a Hájek) in the years 1951-1954. He was released in 1954 and two years later he died as a result of his long-term imprisonment.

Suchánek, Drahomír ; Hrdina, Antonín (advisor) ; Kubín, Petr (referee) ; Valeš, Václav (referee)
The Right of Exclusion in the Papal Elections The project of this dissertation concentrates on the legal affairs, associated with the problem of exclusivity of catholic monarchs, applied in the form of veto privilege in papal elections. Although this claim was never officially recognized, it was used several times and influenced the effect of cardinal collegiums' voting. The study of this area should demonstrate legal basis of this question, ways and means of claiming the exclusivity right and diverse methods of interpretation of the supporters or opponents of its usage.
The Cantigas de Santa Maria as a means of self-presentation of the king Alfonso X the Wise
Jaluška, Matouš ; Drška, Václav (advisor) ; Suchánek, Drahomír (referee)
The thesis deals with a method of self-presentation employed by the king of Castile Alphonse X the Learned (†1284) as it appears in his Marian songbook Cantigas de Santa Maria, where the king proclaims himself to be a troubadour of the Virgin Mary, thus creating a double character of king-troubadour. The first part presents an analysis of the »king« aspect of this double character and the alfonsine concept of monarch as a comprehending head of the people. In the second part the troubadour persona of the king is scrutinized with special emphasis on proximity between those two concepts. It is shown along the way how the close relation with the saint enables the king to enrich his secular regal power with a touch of sanctity independent of Rome.

Latin medieval hagiographie, its structure and influence in Bohemian lands
Izdný, Jakub ; Suchánek, Drahomír (referee) ; Drška, Václav (advisor)
I try to compare latine legends of first European christian monarchs of the early Middle Ages in my work. This way I detected some standard type of hagiographical story with this topic. The conformity lies in the way of acceptation of baptism, appearance of two secondary persons - the wife, who is accepting the sanctity, and the missionary bishop - and not least in using the theme of battle for faith. Especially the character of pious wife seems to be very important in hagiography and implies obviously the realy way of spreading christian religion with the marriage policy. As well important are findings, that despite the quite wide time span between the genesis of the oldest and the latest compared text, amplified by the different historical situation of Germanic and Central European peoples, shows the hagiography considerable similarity and proves the cultural alliance of West and Central Europe.
