Contemporary publishers of books for younger school-aged children from the perspective of pupils: qualitative research
Onderková, Natálie ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis maps the Czech book market from the point of view of the most appreciated Czech publishing houses. Its aim is an overall analysis of Czech publishing houses writing for children and young people, the quality of their production or an assessment of the popularity of literary genres among pupils of younger school age. The focus is mainly on the seventeen most frequently awarded publishing houses in several book competitions over a period of ten years. Both the book contests and the book genres are characterized in more detail in this piece of work. The entire research part of this thesis is based on the literature and detailed research of relevant websites. The practical part of the thesis aims to analyse the reading preferences of second grade students. Specifically, the research focuses on their favourite genre and thematic preferences together with their perception of the production of Czech publishing houses. The research is carried out using the participant observation method and a group interview with the participation of approximately twenty-five pupils of a particular second grade class. The research yielded several most recurrent aspects according to which pupils choose their books. This is, for example, whether animals are featured in the book. Then, it is the size of the font,...
Crisis of the Modern Man in works of Egon Hostovsky
Rut, Ivan ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on the comparison of proses by Egon Hostovsky with respect to the theme of the crisis of the modern man. It follows a discourse about his works and discusses its various approaches, particularly the psychological one, the existential one, as well as the context of realist and expressionist narrative basis. Furthermore, it shows the development of Hostovsky's poetics and the reception of his later works, the novel The Charity Ball in particular. The thesis is buttressed by findings and concepts established in publications by Vladimír Papoušek, Lubomír Doležel and František Kautman. The results of the comparative analysis point to the internal connections between the narrative representations of guilt and anxiety, particularly in the novel Dům bez pána (The House Without a Master) and in the short story collection Letters from Exil, which enables the idea of a new authenticity of the human subject, symptomatic for which are modernist uncertainty and groundlessness. To these phenomena an axiological searching in Hostovsky's works is also subjugated to. With exception for Seven Times the Leading Man and The Midnight Patient - the politically oriented Hostovsky's novels, in which a quantity of conservative constructs and decadent contemplations is present. The main poetics...
Culprits and Victims in Selected Works of Czech and Sudeten German Authors
Štillerová, Jana ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
My thesis deals with the literary treatment of the question of guilt for the removal of Germans from the Czech lands after World War II. The perspectives of Czech and Sudeten German authors are often very different, but sometimes very similar, although the authors are separated not only by nationality, but also by several decades of their lives since the treatment of the topic and the time that influenced them. Řezáč's, Durych's, Körner's and Mühlberger's rendering of the subject falls in the same epoch, namely the 1950s, while Gudrun Pausewang, who, although she also lived through the displacement and could have written about it right after World War II, waited forty years to write her book. It is possible that she needed to gain some distance from the traumatic experience in order to collect her thoughts and gain some perspective on the events. The deportation is also dealt with by authors who did not personally experience it: Tučková and Bernig. One might expect Czech authors to have the same view of the issue of guilt, but this is not the case. Durych and Bernig are open, both sides speak, they also describe Germans as victims and call for dialogue and reflection. Řezáč is one-sided, tendentious, expedient, only Germans are guilty, never victims. Tučková too, but in the opposite way. Most...
Cultural legacy of Jan Palach's act and it's didactic processing
Dušková, Daniela ; Komberec, Filip (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
The thesis deals with the cultural legacy of Jan Palach in song and poetry texts of the 20th and 21st century. The author of the thesis aims to present the use of these texts in teaching, which deals with (historical) topics that provoke intense and often contradictory emotional reactions - here, demonstrative suicide for the awakening of society. In the first part, she draws a brief insight into the life of Jan Palach and the events that preceded his act, and describes Palach's self-immolation itself as a demonstrative act. It also includes a philosophical and theological perspective on Palach's sacrifice. For the purposes of the lesson, the writer interprets the collected texts, thus contributing to the limited amount of scholarly Czech literature on the depiction of the act in song and poetry. In the second part of the thesis, she then uses these texts in the teaching unit design for use in history, Czech language, civics or music classes. Together with the lesson, she presents further uses of the collected material. The paper shows theresults of a pilot lesson in the seventhyear of an eight- year grammar school, including comments from the participating pupils. The work is dedicated to honouring the legacy of the 55th anniversary of the burning of Jan Palach. KEYWORDS Jan Palach,...
Preschool children and the role of the media in their lives
Běťáková, Anežka ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of use of media and multimedia by preschool children, and their parents. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is based on the study of literature and is divided into five main chapters. In these chapters, I discuss the characteristics of the preschool child in relation to the topic. I describe the field of media and multimedia and look at how media affect preschool children and what the role of parents is in the work of preschoolers with multimedia. The last chapter, which deals with literacy, is divided into two subchapters, which address reading literacy and preliteracy and multimedia literacy. In the practical part, I implemented a questionnaire survey directed to parents and also semi-structured interviews with preschool children. Through this research investigation I aimed to find out how preschool children currently perceive the media world. I also focused on the extent to which multimedia is used by today's families compared to other media or other leisure activities and how parents approach the use of multimedia by children. A sub-objective of the practical part was also to create, put into practice and then evaluate the lessons with a children book that addresses the issue of multimedia, with using reading...

Development of motives in Jan Skacel's poetry
Dvořáková, Kateřina ; Neumann, Lukáš (advisor) ; Smrčka, Jiří (referee)
Main goal of this thesis is determining and comparing repeating motives which appear throuhgout the poets work. This paper aims to first evaluate a dominance of certain motives above the others and then to determine in which collection is their influence greater and how this dominance changes accordingly from the earliest to the latest works. Simultaneously these motives will be compared with key motives in Skácels poems for kids and - supposing there are similar motives - then if their function and meaning differs. The attention of investigating those motives will also be oriented towards collections, which were published parallelly at the same time, as the assumption is, that there will be many more similar features and since they were probably created simultaneously, it will be easier to find differences in authors work that are adressed to both groups of readers. One of the goals of this paper i salso to sumarize the most important milestones of authors life. By dilligent analysis of individual collection were established groups of dominant motives and a comparison between the colleciont for adult and children readers was made. It was also found out that collection published parallelly were not created simultaneously and therefore they do not carry similar features. From accessible informations...
