Quality of Life and Materialistic Value Orientation

Empirical evidence consistently shows that an emphasis on materialistic values negatively correlates with quality of life, both at an individual and societal level. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of this interrelationship. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part presents concepts both of quality of life and materialism as well as contemporary approaches to their research and measurement. Special attention is paid to the concept of eudaimonic well-being as a core concept of optimal human functioning, and to the concept of post-materialism as a value orientation that emphasizes self-expression and quality of life. The thesis is based on two propositions referring to the relation between quality of life and materialistic value orientation. On the one hand, materialism facilitates an economic development and market economy of a given society. At a certain level of economic development there is a tendency to shift to post-materialistic values associated with autonomy, self-realization and personal growth. Change od quality of partner relationship after the birth of first child

The work observes the development and changes of perception of the relationships of a couple in the period of accepting the role of a parent. In its theoretical part, the work considers the relationship of a couple within a wider context of a family, describes the relationship of a couple from its beginnings to the decision of establishing a family, emphasizes experience of the woman during pregnancy and after giving birth and also deals with the man's view of this period. The conclusion of the theoretical part describes in more detail changes of the relationship during the transition to parenthood and introduces foreign research of this topic. The empirical part then presents the survey itself, where women expecting their first child expressed satisfaction with their relationship both during pregnancy and after giving birth. The evaluated areas of the relationship of a couple include intimacy, communication, shared time, support, care and appreciation. The quality analysis of the statements of the female respondents with regard to the individual evaluated areas specifies the quantitative findings. The role of men in current romantic relationship

The thesis "The role of men in current romantic relationships" is dedicated to the concept of manhood with an emphasis on romantic relationships and focuses specifically on an identity development and its male specifics, masculinity and various developmental paths leading to an achievement of manhood. It also describes the basic characteristics of romantic relationships and specifies the role of men in them. The empirical study is based on a qualitative methodology and maps male perspective of romantic relationships. Further focus is on how men perceive the romantic relationship and their role in it. Fifty men involved in a romantic relationship participated in this study. Participants filled in projective questionnaires, namely Incomplete sentences and Life at romantic relationship and its parts. The research results refer the cathegories of romantic relationship including its detailed descriptions from the perspective of participants and also offer an overview of activities done by men within the partnership with no claim for any generalization. Psychological aspects of death and dying

This theses concern with psychological aspects of dying and death. Its purpose is to comprehend ideas of modern people concerning death and dying (eventually to gain some kind of mental representation of death). Theses consist of two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part concerns at first with death and dying and areas connected to those. Then it covers two quite new areas related to this topic, namely deaht in psychology and various explanations of death including their psychological explanation. The empirical part uses qualitative research (used methods are half-structured interview, free aassociations and marginally also analysis of a drawing) on people's conception of death, their explanation of death and feelings related to the topic, their fears and wishes. The findings are of qualitative character and they were obtained from 28 respondents. The results of empirical part could provide valuable psychological material in the area, that is even nowadays still concidered to be a taboo. They could deepen research in the area that, due to the overall aging of population, would be more and more valuable. The Impact of Involuntary Childlessness on Partner relationship

The topic of this thesis is involuntary childlessness and its impact on partner relationships. The theoretical part describes theories which try to explain, why people want to have children; here the knowledge about infertility, its therapy and other ways of solving this problem are summarized. The next part of the thesis deals with involuntary childlessness and its psychosocial aspects; special attention is paid to involuntary childlessness in connection to partner relationships. This part also summarizes the coping strategies of partners and presents the possible ways of psychological help for them. The empirical part was implemented by using the qualitative research, the semi-structured interviews and the method of Inclusion of Other in the Self scale. Total of 11 respondents took part, all women and each of them with experience in the area of involuntary childlessness. This part presents answers on the questions about the sense of parenthood for involuntarily childless women, their emotions and partner relationships. It surveys the areas of partner relationships, which were affected by the involuntary childlessness and describes what happens in relationship during this experience. Foster family in view of biological children

The diploma thesis is concerned with the long-term foster care; particularly with the experience of foster carer's own children. It provides knowledge of the alternative care system in the Czech Republic and the particularities of foster families. It describes how own children of foster carers experience the period of time before their foster sibling's arrival, what are their feelings and reactions after the arrival, how their positions in the family change, how their relationships are formed and how they perceive their parent's decision retrospectively. The theoretical part is followed by empirical part which is composed of quantitative and qualitative research. The results of quantitative research introduce the experience of biological children and create a basic idea of the situations in foster families. The conclusions of the qualitative research are then an addition of the quantitative part and help to a better imagination of the life in foster families. This thesis should contribute to foster care applicants, their children and specialists who work with foster families. The diploma thesis is concerned about the theme of psychological pregnancy of foster parents. The main focus of diploma thesis was map the motivation, expectations and experiences of future foster parents. The diploma thesis was divided to two main parts, theoretic part and practical part. The theoretic part reported summary of information about parenthood, alternative family care, experiences of pregnancy and experiences of expectation a child future foster parents. Practical part was concentrared on motivation and expectations of applicants foster parents. Qualitative research, method of interview was used. The results of diploma thesis could use experts of alternative family care, whoes are interested to specialized training for future foster parents. Psychological aspects of preschool child deprivation and subdeprivation

The bachelor thesis deals with deprivation and subdeprivation of preschool children. It defines both terms, describes external conditions which can cause deprivation, internal conditions which involve the final effect of deprivation situation and basic mental child needs. It also deals with subdeprivation situations which can occur, describes the each development period of preschool age with emphasize on deprivation and subdeprivation and describes the change of attitude to deprivation in 20th century. In this context attention is paid to institutional care and partial collective care. The conclusion of theoretical part of thesis is focused on the most present subdeprivation situations of today's and on the consequences of psychological deprivation and subdeprivation. The plan of research project is part of this bachelor thesis.
Importance of pre-school children's play for mental development

The bachelor's thesis deals with the importance of preschool children's play for mental development. The main target of the theoretical part is create the most comprehensive overview of current knowledge on the topic. The first part provides general theoretical definition games. Here I present various definitions, classifications and theory of play. Another part is devoted to a detailed description of the importance of the play for the mental development. I focus here on the cognitive, motor, motivational-voluntary, emotional and social development. Since the preschool period begins to appear cooperative play, I consider it important to include a chapter on playmates. Parents, grandparents, siblings, peers and imaginary friend. This chapter describes the importance of the participation and style of play of playmates in the preschool children's play. Conclusions of the thesis is a research project focused on the parents play with preschool children.
Importance of children's play for mental development

The bachelor's thesis deals with the influence of play on children's mental development from birth to preschool age. The first chapter is dedicated to general concept of children's play, its definition, the main different approaches to children's play and the basic characteristics of play. The next section describes the main stages of development and play from the birth in the specific periods (newborn, infant, toddler, preschool child) when the exact period is briefly described theoretically and then the most of the work is dedicated to play in this periods. The third section of theoretical part focuses on social groups in which play takes place. In conclusion, the practical part, there is designed research in the field of specifics of children's play preschool institution.
