The world of mathematics emerging from the childďs experience in czech schools
Kuřina, F. ; Hošpesová, A. ; Tichá, Marie
Study showes some interesting coherence dealing with verbal and non-verbal modes of expression. Samples of comments dealing with the evaluation of teachersď ways of teaching a their atti to children.
A Damped Newton Iterative Algorithm
Segeth, Karel
The contribution is concerned with a Newton-like or damped Newton method for solving nonlinear algebraic systems that arise from the discretization of nonlinear partial differential equations. Under appropriate conditions, the algorithm presented converges globally and quadratically if the damping parameter involved is chosen in the way described.
Theory and Praxis of Mathematical Modelling of Hydrodynamical Processes
Straškraba, Ivan
Mechanics of fluids is a part of continuum mechanics. Its subject is a macroscopic description of fluid motion. Other points of view are possible as statistical fluid mechanics approach or kinetic approach which is most respecting the corpuscular character of the matter. On macroscopic scale, the last approach does not seem to be practical because of the huge number of objects (molecules) to be described and of course a great number of (e.g. initial) data to be specified. In this survey we are not going....
Numerical modelling of electrical engineering problems
Křížek, Michal
We examine the finite element method for calculation of several types of nonlinear physical fields. In particular, a stationary magnetic field, a temperature field and an electrostatical field. We also investigate the problem of heat radiation and distribution of electro-chemical potentials in semiconductor devices.
Towards developing teachersď ability for grasping situations
Koman, M. ; Tichá, Marie
The authors deal with cultivation of grasping of real situations by teachers as well as pupils. They outline the role of "grasping situations" for the development of cognitine abilities. Thy put stress on formulation ofquestions, creation of problems and interpretation of results.
On improving teachersď beliefs about mathematical education
Tichá, Marie
The contribution is based on our belief about teacherďs decisive effect on the character of mathematical education. Therefore we put stress to the necessity to help teachers to shift them from "transferring of informations" to the "bringing of challenges, questions, problems". Some impulses how to influence teacherďs belief and our present experience from the work with teachers are given.

Modelling spherulite growth by planar tessellations
Saxl, Ivan ; Čermák, R. ; Ponížil, P.
Computer simulated models of planar Poisson-Voronoi and Johnson-Mehl tessellations are compared with a gradually growing thin spherulite layer of polypropylen. The growth kinetics is described and a non-homogeneous Johnson-Mehl tessellation is proposed as a suitable model.
Reliability of numerical computations
Segeth, Karel
The paper is a brief introduction to the subject of rounding erros and reliability of numerical computation.
