Abstract: The contribution is concerned with a Newton-like or damped Newton method for solving nonlinear algebraic systems that arise from the discretization of nonlinear partial differential equations. Under appropriate conditions, the algorithm presented converges globally and quadratically if the damping parameter involved is chosen in the way described.
