Jews in the Novels by Giorgio Bassani
Grünzweigová, Tereza ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Čaplyginová, Olga (referee)
The subject of this thesis is an analysis of novel's works of Giorgio Bassani, namely Gli occhiali d'oro, Il giardino di Finzi-Contini, Ditero la porta and L'airone. In the introduction the author is presented and his prosaic work is described. Then the analysis of the mentioned works focused on Jewish issues is made. The analysis in the first part persues the question of Judaism and the problem of the alienation and the loss of individual identity. The following charter focuses on fascism in relation to the Jews. The historical context of the fascist era is sketched and explains the changes that were under way in the society and the mind of an individual that are reflected in the author's works. Finally the individual is confronted with the society of Ferrara of which he is eventually excluded as a foreigner.
Divisive Factors of Immigration Policy in the Republican Party: A Case Study of Representatives from California
Vaculová, Lucia ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
Bachelor thesis deals with different opinions on the measures of the proposed immigration reform between representatives of the Republican Party. The aim of this work is to present the reasons for the split during the first session of the 113th Congress by analyzing the views of Members representing the state of California and the effects of their decisions. The first part describes the development of the party since the elections in 2010. It outlines a change in approach of the party leaders on immigration issue and the opinions of different factions to proposed legislation. Following the presentation of the proposal of the reform adopted in the Senate in the summer of 2013, it explains the main dimensions of immigration policy. The second half consists of case study that focuses on the influences that shape views of politicians on immigration. The work thematically sorts aspects of immigration policy into categories of border protection, legal and illegal immigration. Based on the results of other works, it describes three variables that have a determining influence on the views of the representatives: electorate, interest groups and the ideology of the politician. The application of the presented theories allows for the analyses of the casual connection between said data and view of politicians...
Goniometry in Ptolemy's Almagest
Kušnír, Martin ; Halas, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Bečvář, Jindřich (referee)
The main focus of this bachelor thesis are the beginnings of goniometry in ancient Greece, mainly in the book Almagest from Claudius Ptolemy. We describe a predecessor of modern goniometric function - the length of a chord in a circle and it's similarity to the modern goniometric function sine. In the first part we focus on computing the table of chords. In the thesis the process of computing the table of chords is unchanged from the original in Almagest, it is only translated into a modern mathematical language. We present description of the Heron's algorithm for computing square roots and discuss the accuracy of the table of chords. In the second part we show the usage of the table of chords in astronomical calculations. Our work is based on how Ptolemy viewed the solar system and the movements of heavenly bodies. Keywords: goniometry, Ptolemy, Almagest, chord, sine
Laboratory investigation of thyreoidea
Kopetschková, Kateřina ; Dršata, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Boušová, Iva (referee)
Author: Kopetschková Kateřina Name of Bachelor's Thesis: Laboratory investigation of thyreoidea Fieldof study: Medical laboratory technician, combined study from Bachelor thesis deals with general thyroid gland. It is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the anatomy of the thyroid gland, investigative procedures, including hormones and disease diagnostics. The practical part deals with the processing of the results of the hormone TSH in two unnamed laboratories in Ostrava. My goal was to evaluate and compare different values of TSH and find out why this is so. All results are added in the table and shown in the graphs.
Stress Testing of the Banking Sector
Mohylová, Aneta ; Seidler, Jakub (advisor) ; Džmuráňová, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with stress testing of the banking sector as a tool that assesses the resilience of a portfolio, an institution itself or an entire system to adverse macroeconomic development. It aims to provide the reader with general understanding of theoretical aspects of stress testing and its practical application. In the theoretical part, the meaning, purpose and use of stress testing is discussed. Further, stress testing methodology and its limitations are explained and different types of stress tests are mentioned. In the practical part, two hypotheses are tested using vector autoregression model. Firstly, the dependence between loan portfolio quality and selected macroeconomic variables is estimated. Secondly, two types of stress tests are designed in order to test the resilience of the Czech banking sector and individual groups of banks divided according to their size categorization to three adverse scenarios via the most common macroeconomic indicator - capital adequacy ratio. Results suggest high resilience of the Czech banking sector towards adverse macroeconomic development. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Jewishness and fascism in works by Primo Levi, Giorgio Bassani and Elsa Morante
Baroni, Sarah ; Flemrová, Alice (advisor) ; Čaplyginová, Olga (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find and analyze thoroughly the elements of Jewishness and fascism in the writings of Primo Levi, Giorgio Bassani and Elsa Morante. We chose the key novels of these authors, where the topic of Jewishness and fascism is present most significantly. Then we made an analysis of these writings, we put emphasis on the topics examined by us and subsequently consequently we compared them. At first we described briefly a political-historical context in Italy after the ascension of fascism and during the war years. Afterwards we focused on individual writers who we firstly introduced in short biographical prefaces and after that we chose the representative writings in which we followed up their conception of the topic of Jewishness and fascism. In conclusion of the thesis we made a comparative analysis of the writings analyzed by us, and we found out that each of these authors had a specific attitude to the topic of Jewishness and fascism. Nevertheless, we noticed some analogies and similarities among the individual authors. For reasons of completeness, we mentioned what place the topic of Jewishness and fascism takes in the context of the total literary output of our chosen authors.
The theme of dictatorship in Argentinian literary works Amalia, El matadero and Facundo
Baranecká, Lenka ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
(in English) This Bachelor's Thesis is occupied with three argentinian literary works that are summarrized into the dictatorial prose. The examined works are El matadero written by Esteban Echeverría, Facundo by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento and Amalia by José Mármol. In the initial part the argentinian history is described, short biographies of all three authors are included as well as the characteristic of literary geners and the period in which the works were written and a short treatise about the dictatorial prose in general. In the practical part the three works are analysed and the author is focused on the symbols of the dictatorship; in El matadero mainly on the description of the teror and atmosphere, in Amalia on the figure of the dictator and in Facundo the focus is on the difference between the civilization and barbarism which is the reason of the problems according to Sarmiento. Every work is different in genre and plot and that is why in the analysis of each of them the author analyses a variety of the important symbols in which she sees what connects them. In the final part she evaluates her findings.
The Z transformation and its application to solutions of difference equations
Hubatová, Michaela ; Opic, Bohumír (advisor) ; Johanis, Michal (referee)
This thesis uses knowledge from the introductory course of complex analysis, especially the theory of Laurent series. It provides basic information about the Z transformation and shows its mathematical applications. The text gives characterizations of exponential type sequences and defines their Z transformation. Presented theorems can be used to determine images of exponential type sequences and to find preimages of functions holomorphic at the point infinity. These theorems are given with proofs and illustrated with examples. Also some methods of the inverse tranformation are mentioned and a list of preimages of chosen rational functions holomorphic at infinity is included. In the last chapter the Z transformation is applied to solve linear difference equations. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Cube Attacks
Bárta, Josef ; Hojsík, Michal (advisor) ; Příhoda, Pavel (referee)
Based on the Cube Attack by Itai Dinur and Adi Shamir and another, in the essence simi- lar, method we devised a new polynomial linearisation technique, which proved to be more powerful, than the Cube Attack alone. Moreover, we present detailed description with formal proof not only of our findings, but also of the Cube Attack. Finally, we demonstrate the results of our efforts on a Trivium variant that is reduced in key and initialisation vector bit count. We managed to linearise polynomials representing a keystream bit output after up to 621 initialisation rounds using purely techniques described in this thesis, compared to 581 initialisation rounds with original attack.
Body and sexuality in San Camilo 1936
Šatopletová, Petra ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Holub, Jiří (referee)
In the Bachelor's thesis Body and Sexuality in the Novel San Camilo 1936, we are going to pursue some of the principal themes of this work; these are based on depictions of the human body in its physical form, i.e. disease, injury, death, external appearance of the characters, and various aspects of sexuality. In order to get to analyze the respective themes, it is neccessary to get to know the author first. It's Camilo José Cela, often noted as one of the greatest novelists of the 20th century, a winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1989 and various other awards. Beside novels, Cela also wrote poetry, travelogs, plays, essays, short stories and newspaper articles. He is famous for his novel La Familia de Pascual Duarte (The Family of Pascual Duarte), introducing the new literary trend tremendism to the world of literature. The term tremendism is derived from the Spanish word 'tremendo', which can be translated as terrible, horrifying, raising fear etc. This by itself gives us an idea about this style's characteristics, which we are going to present in the following text. We consider it essential to give some insight into the period of history the novel was written and set in. It takes place at the very beginning of the Spanish Civil War, specifically the week around the 18th July 1936,...
