Revitalization Program of Floral Garden in Kromeriz
Koželouhová, Anna ; Vojtová, Lea (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor thesis is the design of the revitalization of the foreground of the Květná garden in Kroměříž and of the service building for visitors. When solving the project, the first ideas were initiated by its strong social context. The garden art has always been a reflection of its own period. The founders of gardens – the aristocracy, monarchs or clergy – have used gardens as a means to represent their social status. They have tried to point out the things that have been conceived as artistically and technically (and later socially) progressive and correct. The main ideal concept of my project results from these facts and considerations. I seek to represent today’s era and society – within the meaning of the good, what they could and according to my opinion should bring to each other. And what they perhaps do… That is why I apply knowledge of today’s technique and ecology in my project – in terms of the use of local natural materials and renewable energy resources. At the same time I try to take advantage of and to give support to the frankness of today’s society and to create a project with a social and human overlap. I incorporate a function of a temporary sheltered housing into the area and support integration of people into the society through garden works and therapies. Last but not least – I would like to open the gardens to the broadest scope of the laic public and to create not only an esthetic function, but an educational as well. From the architectural point of view, I tried to bring contemporary components into the garden, which, however, respect the historical evolution and the temporary situation and connect to them. In the Holandská garden I placed the visitors centre into the ground plan – a path of the former “casino”. It closes up this lengthwise space, it creates a notion of continuance of the colonnade of the Květná garden (and transcription of the arcade on its façade), and it balances the dimension of the tropical glasshouse on the other side of the garden. Regarding the solution of the garden space, I respect the cross axes of the Květná garden as well as the main longitudinal axe of the foreground. I create a simple composition of larger sheets with two new “piazzas” – at the place of the renewed Neptune’s fountain and in front of the visitor’s center. By creating the elevated sheets I add the third dimension to the parcel. In the southern part of the foreground I compose functionally different spaces along the longitudinal axe. Hence, visitor’s attention is non-violently drawn to the aviary. Crosswise, the garden is divided into several parts – the representational one (by the cold glasshouse), the agricultural and educational one (but no less attractive) with the garden centre, and the leisure area of the aviary and the so called “rabbit hill”.
Modern Art Gallery Brno
Skořepová, Lucie ; Fišer, Jiří (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Ladislav (advisor)
The new building of the Modern Art Gallery in Brno is situated at South side of the hill called Kraví hora, near the city center. The building site is relatively spacious and its location follows on park. Also the whole urban solution concept of the site follows the park idea. The gallery park should serve as an outdoor exhibition space as well as a communication point between two sides of the hill – Náměstí míru and Veveří street. So the main initial points of the design are freedom of movement, passage of nature and to be surrounded by the art. The Modern Art Gallery project consists of the main building and other small buildings used as studios. In the main building of the gallery there is an exhibition place, educational center, library and other services for the visitors. The small studios situated in the garden should be rent to the starting artists. They would have there their hinterland for work and exhibitions, so the public can have personal contact with them. The shape of the building is based on a slightly deformed cuboid. The middle part is taken away, so there is an opening in it. This opening forms a vista through the building and a covered public space as well. The building works with two main views of the city. The first one is through the middle opening in the building and the mass of the building frames it. The second one is from the roof terrace of the building on the Brno dominate – Špilberk castle.

Gášek, Daniel ; Keith, Petr (referee) ; Vojtová, Lea (advisor) ; Kalousek, Lubor (advisor)
The aim of the thesis was to create documentation for building permit and a part of building design documentation, based on architectural study prepared in subject named AG34 – Architectural Design Studio IV. Main content of the study was reconstruction of the former Zlín county court building and finding a new function for the object that is situated near Zlín castle, Míru square and Svobody park. Basic idea of the project was to utilize as large part of the prime building as is possible, avoid increasing of the built-up area and design a context-friendly object that will bring some new life in this part of the town. Important was also underlining of the most impressive parts of the building that are baroque vaults in the ground floor and frontage from 1922 in the “Czech Modernism” style. Worrisome extension from the 1990’s got a lighter “Czech Modernism” expression, its scale was humanized using brickwork and a new terrace with a clear shot at the Zlín castle was created. The parterre is now friendlier and invites passers-by to visit the new micro-brewery. A literary café with a small gallery provides some cultural activities and also a bicycle rental is here to provide some physical activities too. Upper floors consist a pension and a hostel.

Holý, Martin ; Františák, Luboš (referee) ; Sochor, Jan (advisor)
The project respects the original conception of the garden to create space closed against surroundings. In the Holland garden I create one building that contains galery, café, bookshop and education center. The groundplan shape results from the axes of the Floral Garden. The Holland Garden is a changing space, variable is the inner disposition of the building as well. In the south part I project glasshouses, outdoor patches, a workshop building, water atractions and a voliere for keeping birds. The groundplan solution of this part goes out from the groundplan of the building in the Holland garden.

Vaňková, Kristýna ; Havlík, Darina (referee) ; Makovský, Zdeněk (advisor)
The aim of this work is to create arts campus for the Faculty of fine arts and Faculty of Architecture from the complex of buildings of BUT at Údolní street. Current buildings (formerly army barracks houses) don't have sufficient capacity and are not suitable for the arts departments. Inner part of the campus is nowadays without urbanistic concept and is formed of many buildings of differnt purposes. This work deals with the urbanistic solution of the campus, new use of the current buildings and creation of the new buildings, needed for teaching and exhibitions. I am adding annexes to the historical buildings that will be used by artists. There is main entrance and common gallery in the center of those buildings on the busy crossroad. In the inner part of the campus, between buildings of Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Architecture, there will be the gipsoteca and drawing rooms that will be used by both faculties.
Architecture and Art
Menšík, Daniel ; Rypl Žabčíková, Ada (referee) ; Toman, Radek (advisor)
The gallery often looks sterile, distant and snobbish. It is necessary to get closer to people, show them that the gallery is a normal ambience, where they can feel good. Really? Sterility is a unique possibility to rapture. Sterility allows critical distance. Sterility expands consciousness. Sterility dress too tight unfamiliar skin. It forces to alienate. It liberates. It abet to lose the meaning of everything, to find it again and then to lose it again. A sacrifice is needed. The art might rend ntrails.
