Quality of Life of People with Idiopathic Scoliosis after Surgical Treatment in the Czech Republic

Title: Quality of Life of People with Idiopathic Scoliosis after Surgical Treatment in the Czech Republic Objectives: The aim of the research part of the thesis was to evaluate the quality of life of individuals after surgery for idiopathic scoliosis in the Czech Republic on the basis of a questionnaire survey. Within the framework of the research, individuals with IS who had undergone surgical treatment of IS were contacted, but at the same time individuals with IS who had not undergone scoliosis surgery were contacted. Methods: The study population included individuals diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis in the age range of 18-60 years. Another criterion for inclusion in the study was a minimum of two years after IS surgery. Two questionnaires were used to assess quality of life in these two groups of scoliotic patients with treatment different undergone: the Short Form 36 and the Scoliosis Research Society 22, which were distributed to individuals with IS for approximately eight months. Analysis of the obtained data and statistical evaluation of the results was performed using MS Excel software. Quality of life in the elderly population in the Czech Republic

Title: Quality of life in the elderly population in the Czech Republic Objectives: The aim of the study is to assess the quality of life of older people in the Czech Republic in relation to physical activity and to explore their awareness of the concept of frailty. The sub-objectives include a literature search of the issue and elaboration of theoretical background and formulation of research questions on the basis of these. A further objective is then to conduct the research itself, consisting of a one-off survey using a guided interview. Finally, a detailed analysis of the interviews, processing of the results and discussion. Methods: The paper uses the method of research of available Czech and foreign literature sources and the method of structured interview with a predetermined battery of questions for data collection. Opinions on healthy ageing, physical activity and its impact on quality of life and frailty were explored through the interview. A total of 17 older adults were interviewed. Analysis of the interviews was then carried out according to the methodology of Giorgi (1985) to determine the results. Senior education as a symbol of active ageing

The thesis focuses on the attitudes of seniors towards active ageing in the region of Kolín and explores their views on this issue in the context of education and leisure activities. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the concepts of old age and ageing with emphasis on the concept of active ageing and describes its impact on the life of seniors. It also highlights the importance of lifelong learning and education of older individuals. The empirical part uses qualitative research, specifically semi-structured interviews with a total of eight participants. The aim of the work was to ascertain how people in old age imagine active ageing and how they involve themselves in this process. It was found that for these people, active and healthy ageing is particularly associated with the need to maintain physical and mental activity. Furthermore, the motivation of the research participants to participate in activities related to active ageing was analysed. This is related to their interest in new information and the need for social interaction. The point of view of the employees in the children's home to a quality of life and wellbeing of their clients

This thesis focuses on the point of view of the employees in the children's home on the quality of life and wellbeing of their clients. The literature review describes theoretical knowledge related to the topic. The research part has a qualitative form, where semi- structured interviews with the educators of children's homes were carried out. In the literature review, institutional care or the functioning of children's homes is described. Furthermore, the paper elaborates on the problem of negative influences endangering the child. Such influences represent inappropriate family environment, emotional attachment disorders, inappropriate and damaging behavior towards the child (abuse, neglect), psychological deprivation or adverse childhood experiences and traumas. These negative experiences significantly affect and influence children. Specifics of children's life in a children's home are described in more detail. Lastly, the paper defines terms "quality of life" and "wellbeing" and their possible concepts, especially in connection with life in a children's home. Social Work Methods for Clients with Dementia

Bachelor's thesis focuses on the methods of social work used with clients with dementia. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis defines the concept of dementia, the classification of dementia, and the causes of dementia. It also addresses communication with seniors, the quality of life of seniors, and their needs with an emphasis on social work methods. The main goal of this bachelor's thesis was to determine the methods of social work used with clients with dementia. The practical part of the bachelor's thesis includes evaluated results obtained through research investigation using a qualitative research strategy. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with social workers. The main research question was as follows: "What social work methods are utilized when working with clients with dementia?" Participants selected for the research sample were carefully chosen through intentional selection. The technique of open coding was used to analyze qualitative data. The results of the conducted research showed that only specific types of social work methods are used when working with clients with dementia. The findings indicate that among these methods, working with families is prominent, which, according to social workers, is a crucial method for obtaining valid information about the client. Additionally, individual and group work are also represented. The absence of community work is justified by the absence of a community. Furthermore, the research has highlighted the need for education and awareness for society with dementia. The bachelor's thesis can serve as a useful resource for individuals working with clients with dementia. Furthermore, it can also serve as informational material for the general public.
Subjective assessment of the quality of life of seniors in a retirement home

The bachelor thesis deals with the subjective evaluation of the quality of life of seniors in a retirement home. This thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part focuses on the knowledge about old age and aging, where old age and aging itself, the needs of the elderly or changes in old age are defined. Furthermore, residential facilities for the elderly and the services provided therein are characterised. Quality of life and methods for measuring it are then defined. A qualitative research strategy is chosen for the practical part. The research was conducted using semi-structured interviews. These interviews comprised 18 questions and were conducted in a home for the elderly with 10 communication partners. Subsequently, the interviews were processed through verbatim transcription using pencil and paper techniques. They were then coded and 8 categories were created. The main aim of this study is to find out the subjective assessment of the quality of life of the elderly living in a retirement home. Furthermore, three sub-objectives were also set. The first one is to find out the satisfaction and inner feelings of the clients living in a retirement. The second sub-objective is to find out the satisfaction with the leisure activities provided in the retirement home. And the last sub-objective is to find out the satisfaction with the relationships in the retirement home. The results show that seniors are satisfied with their stay in the home for the elderly and appreciate the services and care they receive, mainly because they could not do without it. The results of my research can serve mainly as feedback for the retirement home in which the research was conducted. The retirement homes can also use this research as inspiration to improve certain services. This thesis can also serve to raise awareness about living in a retirement home.
Quality of life of Children in Orphanages with School and youth Detention Centres

The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis describes topics related to institutional care in the Czech Republic, quality of life, individual models and measurements. The conclusion of the theoretical thesis is devoted to the social worker in institutional care, what prerequisites he/she must meet and what is the fulfilment of his/her work. The aim of the practical part was to find out the quality of life of children and adolescents in children's homes with school and educational institutions. In order to fulfill the objective, a quantitative research strategy was selected and implemented on the basis of the standardized questionnaire KIDSCREEN-27. The research was conducted in 5 institutions located in the territory of the South Bohemia Region, the Vysočina Region and the Central Bohemia Region. A total of 35 respondents participated in the research. The data were subsequently analyzed in MS Excel charts. A total of 3 hypotheses were established. The first hypothesis examined whether physical activity has a positive effect on children's quality of life. Based on a comparison of individual results, the hypothesis was not confirmed. Hypothesis 2 looked at whether the children's friends, have an effect on their quality of life. This hypothesis was also not confirmed according to the results. The last hypothesis examined whether parents negatively affect children's quality of life. After comparing the results, it was found that the hypothesis was not confirmed. This bachelor thesis can serve the general public as well as the professional public, who in this way can gain insight into the issue of institutional education and get an overview of how children live in these institutions. The thesis is also a useful insight into this issue for the reason that not much is said about children's homes with schooling and educational institutions and not much research is conducted on it, as just for example on traditional children's homes.
The importance of Co-Housing for seniors in terms of human dignity and quality of life.

Thesis engages in with the concept of cohousing and examines the influences of this form of housing arrangement on individuals' assessment of their own dignity and quality of life. The aim of the thesis is to introduce the concept of cohousing and, through qualitative research, to present the influences of this alternative form of senior living on the assessment of one's human dignity and quality of life. The work thoroughly analyzes the theoretical background of the concept, and subsequently provides an overview of the specifics of the target group of seniors. Furthermore, possible perspectives in the concept of human dignity and quality of life are presented. The final section of the thesis comprises the research proces, which, through the narratives of respondents residing in cohousing, presents specific ways in which this form of living can influence human dignity and quality of life.
Perception of the meaning of life and faith in childhood and old age

The Bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of finding the meaning of life in old age and in adolescence. The aim of the preliminary research was to find out whether and what differences exist in the perception of the meaning of life and what the selected seniors and adolescents find the meaning of life in. The partial goal was to emphasize the importance of awareness of the meaning of our actions in senior age and in adolescence. The theoretical part describes the relationship between religious faith and the meaning of life, the life period of adolescence, then ageing old age and the changes associated with this period. The practical part contains qualitative preliminary research. The goal of the preliminary research is to find out the view of a selected group of seniors and adolescents on the meaning of their lives. The conducted qualitative preliminary research also focused on sub-questions, through which it found out, whether and how the addressed respondents manage to fulfil their lives, what values they have, what is their meaning in life, what are their main sources of the meaning and life goals.
