Comparative Analysis: English - Czech Variations of Legal Documents

The aim of this thesis is to identify differences and correspondences between The examined data through a comparative analysis of Czech and English legal documents. The primary focus is put on phenomena that could make the text difficult to understand for readers unfamiliar with law and translators of legal documents into other languages. Genre, structure, and lexis are examined to explore the challenges faced by translators in conveying legal language accurately. The thesis also investigates why legal language is often complex and incomprehensible to those without legal knowledge. Additionally, it emphasises the importance of understanding the historical and legal context in which these documents were created.

An annotated translation of Vikram Seth's novel An Equal Music with an introduction to the author, the novel's style and translation complexities

The thesis is divided into two parts. The first and crucial part offers a translation of the first two sections of the novel An Equal Music (1999) by Vikram Seth, a postcolonial author of Indian origin. His novel, or "musical romance", is commonly considered to be one of the best novels about music. The translation is followed by a study of the author's life and works, of his style and the reception of his novel and, finally, by an analysis of essential translation problems. The main focus is on speakability issues in various voices throughout the novel; the ambivalence of and difficulty in translating the title; on translation strategies regarding the poetic layers of the text and on the method of translating names and other facts. Given the specific subgenre of the book, the key subchapter analyses the translated musical excerpts from the novel. (in English): The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to translate a part of the chapter Natural Forms from the book Renaissance Gothic. Architecture and the Arts in Northern Europe 1470 - 1540 written by Ethan Matt Kavaler, a Canadian professor of art history. In the commentary that follows the translation the author considers the specific factors that have influenced the genesis of the original. Then, she analyses its lexical and stylistic features and characterizes the text as an essay of considerable qualities. Drawing upon the analysis the author describes the translation problems and the translator's strategies employed to solve them. She attempts to identify the translation shifts and discusses the reasons of their occurrence. It is observed that the translation tends to be more explicit, uses more variable language solutions and some solutions of increased expressive intensity. This tendency is consistent with the effort to adapt the translation to the target language culture and to preserve the quality of the original.

Lenka Mundevová Translation of Colloquial Language Devices in Fiction: A Century of Maupassant's Ivrogne in Czech Translation Abstract The dissertation compares the stylization of the dialogues in the French original of Maupassant's short story Ivrogne (The Drunkard), written in 1884, with five Czech translations published between 1902 and 1997. The comparative analysis is focused on the devices of colloquial language, including dialect, which appear frequently in the dialogues of the story and prove to be extraordinarily useful when interpreting Maupassant's text. The analysis of the excerpted material is preceded by the description of the basic characteristics of colloquial French and Czech, followed by the description of their stratifications. The mutual relation of the colloquial language varieties is an important prerequisite for the evaluation of the translations of colloquial language devices and their appropriateness in the individual Czech versions of Ivrogne. The paper also deals with the development of Czech aesthetic translation standards and their relation to the standard of local fiction, outlining the important tendencies of Czech fiction translation applied when colloquial devices were conveyed from French to Czech during the specified timeframe. This paper analyses the Slovak translation of the book by Christine Nöstlinger Wir pfeifen auf den Gurkenkönig (The Cucumber King) by Katarína Hatalová. The analysis is based on three sources that deal with the theory of literary translation. Flaws identified in the translation are evaluated and suggestions for a new translation are made. This bachelor's thesis aims to explore the unconventional register used in Sapphire's novel PUSH. The practical section of the thesis is dedicated to translating the first chapter and the final two paragraphs of the novel from the English language into the Czech language. The theoretical section of the thesis focuses on stylistic analysis of the translation, examining various textual elements such as register, vulgarisms, idiomatic expressions, and place names. The practical section also considers and explains the decisions made during the translation process. The thesis also includes chapters dealing with Sapphire's biography and a brief introduction to translation theory, discussing the theories of Jiří Levý, Dagmar Knittlová, Theodore Savory and Eugene Nida.

The subject of the diplom work was to prepare a detailed project documentation of the penzion with hippotherapy in Veseli nad Moravou. This is a document processing house with two floors and the building stables. The object of the pension are located accommodation rooms, dining room and especially apartment manager. The building is located 12 stables are housed boxes, feed stores and higienické facilities for guests.

Bachelor's thesis deals with design of monolithic concrete construction with a timber roof truss for a device of sewerage plant. This construction consists of these elements- strip foundation, walls with lintels, slab and timber trusses. This thesis contains static analysis of the component parts and their drawing documentation.
