The book market development with an emphasis on the internet development including the concept of an e-book (relationship of a publisher - book distributor - bookseller)

The thesis is dedicated to the changes of the book market between its entities, libraries and final consumer of information (readers, library users) after the arrival of the internet. Development of the internet has brought searching of the new business models and opportunities for cooperation. Electronic publishing that, along with the internet availability, commenced to raise is the starting factor for the development of electronic books. The thesis outlines the roles of individual entities of the book market, i.e. publisher and seller (distributor, book-seller and digital platform) and libraries during the production, sale and accessing books with the focus on electronic books. After description of used terminology, especially different approaches to the definition of "an e-book", the next chapter presents hardware devices and software programs that enable reading e-books. The third chapter introduces the role of a publisher in the process of publishing printed and electronic e-books. The aim of the chapter is to highlight different strategies of processing the printed and electronic text, incl. possibilities of self-publishing which gives new possibilities to the author's hands. This diploma thesis presents compiled and edited collection of letters from the czech landscape painter František Kaván (1866-1941), a scholar of Julius Mařák's painting school, to the publisher and gallerist František Topič (1858-1941), the painter Oldřich Blažíček (1887-1953) and the librarian and bibliographer Ladislav Jan Živný (1872-1949). The edition is based on 104 letters kept in the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague and the Archives of the National Gallery in Prague. The correspondence describes a life of the painter from the year 1894 to 1941. The diploma thesis analyses and comments approachable literature and deals with relevant sources of material. Editorial comment summarizes principles and methods applied in this thesis, one part is dedicated to the editor Svatopluk Klír. The main parts are chapters based on commentary of selected passages of 104 edited documents with further relevant information in the apparatus. Fulltext edition of mentioned documents is a part of the appendix. A part of the thesis are indices and list of sources and literature. Bachelor thesis describes the development of publishing houses in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in the years 1948-2012 with a focus on the legislative definition of their activities. It describes the different phases of Czech history, which had a major impact on the transformation of publishing houses, as the communist overthrow in 1948 and the following fifties and related nationalization of publishing houses, imposing of censorship and control of issued periodic and non-periodic publications; the sixties and the year 1968 and the Prague Spring, when there was a brief disengagement of these restrictions; subsequent normalization, which brought a "consolidating of relations" in the sense of political and ideological dictates; recent historical milestone is the year 1989 and following period until about 2012 with the emergence of democracy which brings the transformation of the market, privatization and the new legislative framework for publishers. The aim of this thesis is to compare the evolution of publisher houses in the pre-November and the post-communist era using a descriptive method.

After 1989 publishing business opened for new subjects. One of them is Grada Publishing, a. s., which celebrated the 20th anniversary of its successful activity on the Czech market in 2011. Grada focuses on non-fiction and professional literature on the book market and is ranked as one of the five most productive subjects with more than three hundred books a year. This bachelor thesis concentrates on description and analysis. It presents collected information about the publishing house's formation and development; primarily it deals with the changes in the catalogue of publications in the set period of two decades. A short summary of the discipline's history offers the opportunity to compare it with the modern shape of publishing profession. Grada started with computer literature. Computers and the Internet are said to be stealing readers. The thesis also deals with the response of the publishing house to new possibilities of publicity and distribution of books (Internet, e-books). Further, it focuses on an overview of the current state where emphasis is put on thematic categories and editions and their evaluation. Book design in the context of the phenomenon bestseller

The theoretical part of the thesis in his first chapter of the book deals with a phenomenon that accompanies since its inception and how it affects us the literary world. The next phase will analyze literary types and origin of fiction itself, which strongly supported the reading culture and to encourage the creation of rights bestsellers. The next section will focus on the book and its difficult journey from writer to designer, printers and finally to the reader. The next phase deals with books in physical and electronic form, the reader walks of life and then directly bestseller term, as the current phenomenon of literary culture. Then represents one of the writers Dan Brown and his books of content and visual aspects. The last part will deal with the linking book design and art education in the practical part of the thesis description of the treatment, resulting arises file publishing a collection of selected books by Dan Brown.
