Reflection of Carl von Clausewitz's work in anglo-american military historiography

This bachelor's thesis is concerned with reflection of Carl von Clausewitz's work in anglo-american military historiography. Carl von Clausewitz's work On war, is generally considered one of the most important and most well known books devoted to the problematic of armed conflict.. That is why it was chosen as a phenomenon, through which development and transformations of anglo-american military historiography is followed. In the first part of this theses, problematics of military history in general and legacy of Carl von Clausewitz in particular are described. In the second part gained knowledge is applied on historiographical survey.

Military Importance Analysis of the Olomouc fortress in the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War Jiří Borovský Abstract The thesis focuses on a role played by the city of Olomouc during the War of Austrian Succession (1740-1748) and the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). Between 1741-1742, almost all Moravian territory became an operational space for armies of the Prussian king Friedrich II. The Prussians took the city of Olomouc, too, and made it their most important military and logistic base within the occupied territories. As soon as the War of Austrian Succession was over, the fortress of Olomouc was rebuilt fundamentally: It took a mere decade of an immense building activity and Olomouc became the most modern bastion fortification in the whole Danubian Monarchy. Shortly after the works had been finished in 1758, the Prussians invaded Moravia again in order to seize the city again. The author analyses both Prussian campaigns to Moravia. The thesis mainly deals with the conditions that involved both Austrian and Prussian parties at the beginning of the war. It draws comparison between both armies involved, and between the actual results of the wars, too. Development of the Czechoslovak military plans related to the construction of forts

Development of the Czechoslovak military plans related to the construction of permanent forts in the interwar period Abstract: On the Czechoslovak war plans had until 1925 the major proportion of members of foreign military missions (first Italian and French in particular), so to accrue in accordance with the broader French strategies for Central Europe. After 1925, when General J. Syrový became Chief of staff, Czechoslovak war plans had been the work of the Czechoslovak officers. In the 1920s, it was in accordance with the Czechoslovak foreign policy for the main Czechoslovak enemy considered to Hungary. The growth of the revisionist and revanšistických tendencies in Germany and the emergence of Nazism forced the Czechoslovak planners turn attention to Germany. The differences in military capabilities in Czechoslovakia and Germany, led to the decision to build permanent fortifications, still more defensive the nature of the defense in the Czechoslovak war plans and to the adoption of the concept of the retreat of the army to the East to Slovakia. Emperor Charles IV. and the Conquest of Brandenburg 1371 - 1373

The aim of this thesis is to describe in detail the process of acquisition of the Margraviate of Brandenburg by Holy Roman Emperor and king of Bohemia Charles IV. It uses charters, chronicles, annals and other contemporary sources to map especially the military actions of the years 1371 - 1373, which eventually led to the conquest of Brandenburg. Furthermore, the thesis concentrates on the history of Charles IV's endeavour to seize this land in relation to his political and territorial ambitions. It is also concerned with Emperor's motivations and his diplomatic activities regarding Margraviate of Brandenburg and its seizure. In a special chapter it describes the structure of the army that Charles IV had at his disposal during the two campaigns to Brandenburg. The overall aspiration of this thesis is to be beneficial to the study of the uses of military might by Charles IV, as well as to the Czech military history of the second half of 14. century. The War in North Africa - historiographical presentation

Topic of the thesis is war in North Africa. The goal is to show a quality of Czech literature (books, magazines) focused on the situation in North Africa during the Second World War. Firstly, I present the methods of my research and show a content of the thesis. Secondly, there is a historical introduction about wars in North Africa, to give some general information to the reader. The main part, as already mentioned, is about comparing the Czech writings. General possibilities of sorting the war history according to its focus have been presented. The first part, orientated to the magazines, is divided in relation with the traditional system of military history - articles are compared in its folder. The second part - comparison of publications is organized due to a time line because all the books are examples of modern military history. The beginning of the time line is the spring Rommel's offensive in 1942. The end is demonstrated by the battle at El Alamein and a withdrawal of the Africa Corps. The conclusion contains all the knowledge about the comparisons which has been achieved during this research.
