Veselý, Vojtěch ; Činátl, Kamil (advisor) ; Michela, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis intends to introduce the life story of Vojtěch Kučera, "agent-walker", who undertook at least twenty-six illegal border crossing across Czechoslovakia border during the years 1946 - 1954. During his last illegal border crossing he was catched, accused of espionage and then sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in the year 1955. The first part of the thesis is based on three variations of Kučera's life story. These three stories are constructed (and later deconstructed ) by using informations from family memories, Kučera's statement as well as from the film Agent K vypovídá. The second part of the thesis is based on several microhistorical probes. By using microhistorical analysis we aim to understand Kučera's thinking, behaving and motivations.
The media portrayal of the miracle of Cihost over the change of time
Čížková, Petra ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Zamazal, Ondřej (referee)
The event known as the miracle of Cihost happened in a small village Číhošť in the region of Havlickuv Brod at the end of 1949, beginning of 1950. A crucifix moved on the altar during a sermon. The event led to an investigation and the detention of local priest, Josef Toufar, by the State Secret Police. Father Toufar became one of the first victims of the newly established totalitarian regime. This work called "The Media Portrayal of the Miracle of Cihost Over the Change of Time" presents the case known as the miracle of Cihost over three historical periods. The first period is connected with the origin of the case, therefore the end of 1949, beginning of 1950, the second period, which deals with events in Cihost to a certain extent, is the reform year 1968 and the last period is represented by the velvet revolution in 1989 which changed the established manner of functioning of state apparatus in our country and during which time the existing media system also transformed. The aim of this work is to point out the differences in the interpretations of this case in separate historical periods as each period deals with the case in question very differently. Part of this project was an effort to point out the political and media situation in all of the presented periods. Political and media events had...
The media image of the Velvet Revolution in terms of conspiracy theories
Mrnková, Kamila ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is the media image of the Velvet Revolution related to various conspiracy theories. This view can be traced in Czechoslovak (and later Czech periodicals) on the basis of predetermined storylines. The specified period for the analysis of individual elements of these theories is from November 17, 1989 to about mid-1993, or earlier if the periodical ceased to be published. The period of the Velvet Revolution is a fundamental period of our republic, which at this time underwent an economic, political, social transformation… And few aspects of everyday life remained the same as before the revolution. Because this change took place so suddenly and so quickly, a lot of rumors, misinformation, and conspiracy theories began to spread to explain to some extent what had happened, especially if they did not like the officially recognized version of events. It is these alternative explanations of the events of that time that are the subject of this work. I will analyze them in a total of 7 titles, in Rudé právo, Lidové noviny, Studentské listy, Respekt, Květy, Špígl and Analýza 17 listopadu by Miroslav Dolejší. First, I will introduce the theoretical basis of concepts such as conspiracy theory, misinformation, ect., with which I will continue to work. I will also outline the...

Selected aspects of the legal regulation and organization of the StB Secret Police between 1945 and 1969
Vyskočil, Zdeněk ; Šouša, Jiří (advisor) ; Soukup, Ladislav (referee)
The broad subject of this diploma thesis would be the Czechoslovak Secret Police (StB) during the years 1945-1969; and, more narrowly, certain aspects of its organization and activities in relation to the then applicable legislation. The overriding objective, which was reflected in this legislation, was the protection of the Communist political system, the regime. This regime protection goal clearly influenced the evolution and organization of the StB and the related policies on the imprisonment of those individuals that represented a threat to the State and the State System. Similar general principles and policies have basically remained in effect into the current period. The paper begins with an Introduction and Preface, which take a look at the events and nature of the society in this post-World War II period. This material is derived from an examination of historical source materials. The remainder of the paper is divided into four additional Chapters with related subsections. The Introduction and Preface focus on the nature and state of the society in the immediate post-war period, which provided the context and background used for the development of the new legislation and the newly created institutions developed for the protection of this new social order and the punishment and incarceration...
