The Inclusion of Childern with Specific Social and Educational Needs to Scout Units
Všianská, Anežka ; Lorenzová, Jitka (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Daniela (referee)
(in English) The Master's thesis "Inclusion of Children with Specific Social and Educational Needs to Scout Units" focuses on the integration of children with special needs into the specific environment of the Czech-scouting organisation Junák. It comprises of a theoretical and an empirical part. The first one describes basic theoretical concepts of children integration and inclusion and summarises the current situation in the Junák organisation. The empirical part presents a research, which unlike previous works describes the process of integration from the perspective of three key subject groups: children with specific needs, their parents or foster parents and Scout leaders. The data has been gathered by the means of semistructured interviews, question forms and on-site observation. The aim was to identify how the integration process works and to gather the opinion of individuals representing the three target groups about the factors influencing the process of integration in Scout units. This thesis presents several aspects considered as key by each of the subject group. From the children perspective, a successful integration depends on their ability to find friends among the other members of the units. For their parents and the units' leaders, communication and active cooperation between all...
Scouting for Everyone - Inclusive Environment in the Scout Unit
MATYŠOVÁ, Klára
This bachelor thesis is focused on the union "Scouting for everyone" and the overall environment in scout units. It is structured around three main goals. First, to explore in which ways the children with disabilities are incorporated into scout units. Second, to investigate how these children participate and the last main goal is to find out how the union "Scouting for everyone" accomplishes their program document from the year 2011. A qualitative research approach, a semi-guided interviewing method and inquiring techniques were selected in order to complete the practical part of the thesis. The interviews were conducted with twelve members of the Scout organization as well as three members of the union "Scouting for everyone". The open coding technique was then used to process all the interviews. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, the Scout movement in general and its history are introduced, then the topic of inclusion in schools and extracurricular inclusion are expanded upon. The last chapter in the theoretical part contains information about the union "Scouting for everyone". The practical part consists of two sets of results from the research conducted. The first set of results focuses on the interviews with twelve members of the Scout movement. The open coding technique was used to process their answers. The second set consists of answers of the three members of the union "Scouting for everyone". These are processed by diagrams. The last chapter is focused on evaluation - how the research goals have been accomplished. Lastly, the answers to research questions are mentioned in the last chapter. This bachelor thesis could be a contribution to scout leaders, who have children with disabilities in their scout troops and have no idea where to get helpful advice. The thesis also could prove helpful to extend general awareness about the inclusion in the Scout organisation to public and also to parents of kids with disabilities.
Moral reasoning of older school age children
Oborná, Denisa ; Klusák, Miroslav (advisor) ; Neuwirthová, Barbora (referee)
The thesis deals with researching the ethical judgement in middle-school children, i.e. boy/girl scouts at the ages of eleven to fifteen years. I have gathered the underlying data by regularly attending the meetings of a boy/girl scout squad, observing and interviewing the children and, most importantly, consulting their scoutmasters, thereby gaining a comprehensive idea of the ethically ambiguous situations the children face during their time in the squad. I have defined my research area as a result of this. Together with the scoutmasters, we have then devised an activity that allowed us to have discussions with the children within the scope of the scout law, with the aim to gain an understanding of their ethical judgement. I have gained my theoretical sensitivity and overview of the general subject primarily from the works of Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg.
