The female authors and their importance for the contemporary Czech literature

The diploma thesis deals with Czech contemporary female authors who focus on Czech-German relations in the 20th century and are engaged in the German-speaking area. These are Katerina Tuckova, Radka Denemarkova and Jakuba Katalpa. Each of the authors approaches the Czech-German topics with different motivations and brings a new perspective on the issue, as evidenced by a detailed analysis of the novels The Expulsion of Gerta Schnirch, Money from Hitler and The Germans. The aim of the work is to create three distinctive portraits and to name the same and different tendencies of the mentioned authors. Attention is focused on their biography, social activities and opinions, which are necessary for understanding the context.
The Gender Analysis of Žítkovské bohyně

This thesis constitutes the gender analysis of the Kateřina Tučková's work Žítkovské bohyně. The methodological and theoretical part defends feminist literary criticism as a legitimate approach to the text, represents a method of feminine writing and reading and examines the question of literary canon. Besides it analyses archetypes, which are demonstrated with using classical feminist texts, which depict typological attributes of characters as well as some model situations of the novel. The characters are related to archetype of witch, Demeter narrative and seductress, which all are interdependent. Except for archetypes, the thesis also discusses the issue of stereotypical display of feminity and masculinity, spirituality connected with women characters, interprets nature of myths and reflects mutual relationship among characters of the novel in the gender system. The proper analysis of female and male characters focuses on the main female characters, which are influenced by male partners and theme of the curse, which is the key for this analysis.

The diploma thesis Critical acclaim of Czech female writers' topical work on the Second World War analyses book reviews of three chosen novels devoted to the theme of the Second World War, by Kateřina Tučková, Alena Mornštajnová and Květa Legátová. The aim of the thesis is to document how the works have been received by Czech literary critics and reviewers. The analysis examines texts from literary magazines (Tvar, Host, A2, Literární noviny, iLiteratura.cz), general press (Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Novinky.cz, Týden) and Czech Radio. The theoretical part defines literary criticism, and summarizes the biographies of chosen writers and the history of some of the important literary magazines that are analyzed in the thesis. In the theoretical part, I also put the role of female contemporary writers into perspective of their cultural and historical context. The following practical part is focused on interpreting novels and analyzing and evaluating critical response. The analysis not only examines the opinions and conclusions of reviewers, but also the quality of the authors' reflections, and the professionalism and complexity of their approach to the novels. Media responses to the novel Žítkovské bohyně of Katerina Tuckova

This thesis called The media reactions to Katerina Tuckova's novel Zitkovske bohyne outlines the life and work of novelist Katerina Tuckova and analyses responses to her third novel. It deals with professional reviews as well as reader's reactions on servers and social networks. It also maps the work of Jiri Jilik who's topic is very similar and explores reactions to his publication Zitkovske carovani: The true story of zitkovske bohyne. We focus on the content similarities and relationship between those two pieces of work, also on the methods of work that the authors used. The thesis also analyses the circumstances of a dispute between Katerina Tuckova and Jiri Jilik and also between Katerina Tuckova and some inhabitants of Moravske Kopanice. We mostly think about the relationship between fictional and fact level of a historic novel. In the thesis not only we use the books of both authors but also interviews with Katerina Tuckova and articles from periodicals. The reviews are mostly from periodics Host, Tvar, Lidove noviny and MF Dnes. We also use interner servers dealing with this topic. In the theoretical part we derive from works od Jonathan Culler, Lubomir Dolezal, Pavel Janousek etc. The interview with Katerina Tuckova is attached.¨
