Genetically modified organisms and the legal regulation of their disposal
Fornůsková, Michaela ; Žákovská, Karolina (advisor) ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (referee)
GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS AND LEGAL REGULATION OF THEIR USE ENGLISH RESUME This thesis aims to give a complete insight into the framework and problem questions arising in connection with legal regulation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The use of genetic modifications as one of modern techniques of biotechnology has spread widely during last fifty years. This technology has brought many advances. On the other hand as any new technology it represents potential adverse effects on biological diversity and possible risks to human health. At the beginning there is a brief introduction into GMOs from historical and technical point of view. Then I dealt with biosafety measures adopted at global, regional and national levels. The main principles of environmental law take part afterwards. I am focusing mainly on prevention and precautionary principle. International law relating to the GMOs consists of soft law documents. There is only one exception - Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety focusing on transboundary movement. The Law of EU comprises of Regulations, Directives and Recommendations. Notifications, approvals, risk assessment and monitoring are consequential. The Czech law has been harmonized according to the law of the European Communities. Act no. 78/2004 Coll., on the use of GMOs and genetic...
Selected issues of legal regulation of genetically modified organisms
Pečený, Přemysl ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (referee)
1 Selected issues of legal regulation of genetically modified organisms Abstract Genetically modified organisms are one of the most pressing challenges of modern agriculture and other economic sectors. This is due to the large number of potential benefits and risks, which are quite often insufficiently scientifically researched, exacerbating the controversy associated with their use. It is a technology that has been used for a relatively long time, but its legal regulation is constantly challenged due to the dynamic development of the related scientific advances. Despite the aforementioned, some issues of the topic receive only marginal attention, which makes it difficult to create and apply a fully functioning legal regulation. The diploma thesis itself deals with selected issues of legal regulation of genetically modified organisms, focusing on the readiness of legal regulation, functionality of auxiliary instruments, as well as de lege ferenda considerations. These topics are formulated into three basic research questions, which the author tries to answer by analyzing relevant parts of the legal regulation. The aim of this thesis is to expand this vital part of environmental law with new findings and thus supplement other academic works that deal with legal regulation of genetically modified organisms....

Attitudes of high school students toward genetically modified organisms
Brousková, Mariana ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Čížková, Věra (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on investigating attitudes of czech high school students toward genetically modified organisms (= GMO). The main objectives of this thesis are to investigate students' attitudes toward, and knowledge of GMO, to find out any relation between attitudes toward, and knowledge of GMO. I found out if there is any relation between students' attitudes toward GMO and other factors like family environment (level and type of eduction of parents, religion), school environment (teachers who teach students, school) or place of residence. Data colletion was carried out by quantitative questionnaire survey among 185 Czech students of Prague's and out-of-town's grammar schools from 10 different classes. My findings show that the attitudes of Czech students toward GMO are positive and are not influenced by gender, parents' education, the students' attitudes toward biology, type of students' planned studies at university or the location of their school. However, at the same time, a statistically significant difference was found in the case of free-time activities, the teacher who teaches students and the purchase of organic food. In the case of the students' knowledge, a significant difference was found in the case of the type of the father's education, the type of the students' planned...
Legal regulation of the disposal of genetically modified organisms
Medveďová, Lenka ; Franková, Martina (advisor) ; Humlíčková, Petra (referee)
Legal Regulation of the Use of Genetically Modified Organisms ABSTRACT The use of genetically modified organisms on a global scale is on the rise which requires their efficient and consistent regulation. The main goal of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the legal regulation of genetically modified organisms and their use on several levels. After an introduction to the topic, the thesis deals with the key international documents and then moves on to examining different approaches on the topic and exploring regulation in the United States and in the European Union with a connection the legislation in Czech Republic. In addition, four annexes are included at the end of the thesis for a better illustration of the current use of genetically modified organisms in the world.

Analýza zavedení Bt bavlny do Indie
Staníková, Monika
The main aim of this Bachelor thesis is to analyse Bt cotton in India and explore its economic and social impacts. The first part of this bachelor thesis deals with genetically modified organisms, discusses their risks and benefits, and there is also a brief description of the political, economic and social development of India. The second part is focused on cotton in India, especially on the introduction of genetically modified Bt cotton to the Indian market. There is described the transformation of production, international trade of India with cotton and impacts on the economic and social conditions of farmers. Based on the previous analysis, the final part provides recommendations to improve the cotton production in India.
Molekulární podmíněnost rezistence lnu vůči těžkým kovům a možnost jejího ovlivnění transgenozí
Vrbová, Miroslava
This work is focused on the molecular conditionality of flax resistance to heavy metals. Attention was therefore devoted to the identification of proteins whose role in stress response to heavy metals have not been discovered yet in flax. Two contrasting flax varieties displayed differences in steady state levels of short thiol peptides (GSH and PC) and heavy-metal binding proteins (ferritin and lipocalin) which can detoxify cadmium via chelation. These results are the first published analysis of the proteomic response to cadmium exposure in commercially important annual crop with potential use in phytoremediation. Another of the objectives was to verify the possibilities of influencing the flax resistance to heavy metal using transgenosis. There were obtained a multiplied flax plants, in which the presence of a transgene was verified, and these lines were tested for tolerance and accumulation of cadmium in both in vitro and in the field conditions.
Novel foods
MIKLOŠOVÁ, Katarína
The contents of the Bachelor's thesis is the performance of novel foods. Since it is relatively new and not much known area of the food industry, is available to only a limited amount of information. The work shows how it looks on the Czech market legislation, approval, placing into circulation and food safety. It is also possible to read at work how consumers and retailers perceive novel foods. What range of novel foods is in our market? A new type of food is also genetically modified organisms, that work also deals with.
