Metoděj Habáň (1899-1984): A Probe into the History of Czech Neothomism Abstract The thesis is focused on the depiction of the life and work of Metoděj Habáň (1899-1984), Czech Dominican priest and philosopher. It follows two main goals: First, it strives to present accurate reconstruction of Habáň's life and his involvement in the Czech Church and society. Secondly, it presents Metoděj Habáň's thinking as a specific type of Thomism and analyse his work in the context of the paradigmatic changes, which the Church and society went throught in the 20th century. The thesis is therefore divided into two main parts - first is focused on Habáň's life, second on his work. In the first chapter it present main sources of inspiration for his work and thinking. In the following chapters it describes his life journey, beginning with his studies and spiritual formation within the Dominican order. It continues with his role in the inner life of the order in the position of Novice Master and Prior Provincial (1938-1942). Attention is also paid to his involvement in the public life of the interwar society. In the period after the second world war we follow Metoděj Habáň to Litoměřice, a town in northwest Bohemia and we describe his imprisonment in the 1950s and subsequently his involvement in public life in the 1960s. Origins and Developments of the Dominican monastery at the church of St Anne and St. Lawrence in the Old Town in Prague

The bachelor thesis is devoted to the genesis and the enlargement of the Dominican convent of St. Anna and St. Lawrence in the Old Town of Prague. The first part summarizes the foundation of the Dominican Order, its expand and the beginning of the Order in the Czech lands. Furthermore the attention passes to the Saint Anna's Convent, its establishment, development and the changing of functions from the beginning to these days when the owner of the area is the National Theatre in Prague. The Rotunda of St. Lawrence, that was founded during archaeological research in the 1950s, is not leave out from this thesis. The most substantial part is focused on the architecture of the church and convent and to the wall paintings that were restored in the past years. Certain attention is paid to the medieval roof frame in the church and also to the project of its renovation designed by Eva Jiřičná. The final part mentions all the buildings that used to belong to the convent till its cancellation in 1782. Public activities of members of the Dominican monastery of St. Gilles in Prague illustrated through the examples of Angelus Lubojacký and Aleš Pařízek

The aim of the bachelor thesis called "Public activities of members of the Dominican convent of St. Giles illustrated through the examples of Angelus Lubojacký and Aleš Pařízek." is to outline and describe the life and work of two members of the Dominican convent of St.Giles using the historical progress of the Dominican order as a background. The thesis consists of two chapters. Each of them deals with the childhood, the studies, the circumstances of their joining the order, public work and activities of Angelus Lubojacký and Aleš Pařízek, either within or outside the monastery. Both personae are considered to be controversial figures regarding the Dominican order. The way the order approached both men was significantly different given the peculiarities of their times, which are also a theme of this thesis.
"Na hlubinu" and "Filosofická revue": exploring intellectual history of interwar Catholicism in the work of the Czech Dominican province

Paper focuses on the analysis of the catholic discourse in Czechoslovakia in the period 1918 - 1948. Research is based on two theological and philosophical magazines of the Dominican order - "Na hlubinu" and "Filosoficka revue". Analysis is divided into three main areas - historical and political issues; theological and philosophical thinking and the relation between arts and Christianity. The paper also focuses on the biographies of two distinguished personalities of the Dominican order and the editors of both magazines: Silvestr Braito and Metodej Haban.
