Odliv lékařů v oblasti humánní medicíny?z České republiky do zahraničí
Plachká, Julie
Plachká, J. The Phenomen of Brain Drain in the Area of Humane Medicine. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2022. Until recently, the term brain drain was primarily used to describe the migration of highly skilled persons from developing to developed countries. However nowadays, this issue is also appearing in the Czech healthcare sector due to the long-term dissatisfaction of healthcare workers with the working conditions and remuneration. The aim of this thesis is primarily to identify external factors that influence physicians‘ decision-making whether to emigrate or not. The values of these factors in the Czech Republic will be compared with the values of identical factors in the studied countries, i.e., the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Austria. Based on the analysis in the practical part of the thesis, a result describing how much, if at all, is the decision to migrate sensitive to changes in its external environment will be presented. The thesis will be completed with a discussion and conclusion.
The implications of international migration to the socioeconomic development in Nigeria
Akusinigwe, Joseph Onyekah
ABSTRACT This study explores the importance of international migration on social and economic development in Nigeria. To assess these implications, statistical data and reports were obtained from various sources, such as the Nigerian National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and International Organization for Migration (IOM). The findings show that; the number of Nigerians leaving the country for green pasture or for other reasons has risen steadily over the years and this trend has attracted the attention of scholars, political leaders and other concern groups to do research about it. Brain drain, brain gain or remittances and knowledge transfers are identified as among the implications of international migration in Nigeria. Nigeria is regarded as a developing economy that requires strong and highly-skilled human resources to spur development. However, due to some reasons, a significant proportion of the country's highly-skilled population are emigrating to other countries and this may have serious implications on the country’s development. To address these implications, the Nigerian government needs to come up with economic and social measures that aimed at addressing the causes of international migration in the country -so as to reduce the number of highly-skilled Nigerians leaving the country and create programs that will attract more remittances from Nigerians abroad
Causes and consequences of youth emigration in selected Western Balkan countries
Topalović, Ana
The thesis focuses on identifying the factors that influence emigration from the Western Balkan countries, especially young and educated people. Based on a literature review, several indicators of the economic, political and educational systems were selected as potential causes of the high emigration rate from the region. A comparison of the Western Balkan countries with the EU Member States in the main selected indicators was made, and using cluster analysis it was shown that the Western Balkan countries on average achieve the lowest net migration rates, but also the worst results in almost all selected indicators. Regression analysis showed that there is a statistically significant relationship between emigration indicators and indicators of economic, political and educational systems, in the sense that worse performance in these areas is accompanied by higher emigration rates. It was also shown that people from Western Balkan countries are more likely to move to more developed countries, but also to countries within the Balkan Peninsula region itself. Common language, culture or geographical proximity also seem to play an important role in this case.

Pazderová, Barbora
The aim of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the long-term development of the number of foreign students in the Czech Republic in both Czech and English study programs (period 2003 – 2019) and their links to the source and destination country. The practical part of the work will focus on the migration potential of foreign students of English and Czech study programs of Brno public universities, except students from Slovakia and Erasmus students. The main topic of this work is to find out what is the migration potential of foreign students of Brno public universities. The work focuses on the issue of brain drain and brain gain and finds out whether foreign students of Brno universities want to stay in the Czech Republic and be a very important part of our economic system as highly educated migrants. It compares foreign students in English study programs with foreign students in Czech study programs. At the end of the work, recommendations are proposed on how to avoid the loss of highly educated migrants and thus maintain their skills and knowledge to support our economy and support internationalization in general.
Road to Respect: Reason for Migration to Germany from the Perspective of Future Graduates of Prague Medical Faculties of Charles University
Sedláková, Klára ; Čada, Karel (advisor) ; Šanderová, Jadwiga (referee)
This master thesis deals with the topic of migration of the fresh graduates from Czech Republic to Germany. By means of a qualitative research the decision and reasons to migrate are presented in this thesis like a natural strategy of reaction on decline of an actual situation of young doctors in the Czech health system. The research shows an important role of the non-financial motivating factors. The central topic of research became the social status, especially the prestige and related respect. The reasons for migration are introduced with the theoretical help of the Push and pull factors theory. The understanding of the strategy of decision to migrate as a natural process is related to the theory of Exit, voice and loyalty of Albert Hirschman. The research is based on a series of semi-structured interviews with participants who intend to migrate after the graduation. Since this thesis is focused on the perspective of the main actors of the phenomenon, the migrants, it introduces the diversity of their attitudes to the reasons for migration. The main finding is the importance of the role of respect in the particular everyday situations, which is reflected in the several of ascertained types of motivating factors to migrate. The research also discovered the particular meanings of the motivational...

Mrázková, Eva ; Chrzová, Barbora (advisor) ; Žíla, Ondřej (referee)
Name: Eva Mrázková Title: Emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Lens of Transnationalism: Bosnian Emigration Beyond the Brain Drain Abstract Although the topic of emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina is relevant and up-to-date, it has been not sufficiently covered in the literature yet. Both the media and academic works present the emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina as a process which causes a significant loss of workforce and qualified professionals to the country. This work aims to point out the often omitted participation of Bosnian Diaspora on the growth of the country and therefore contribute to the discourse about Bosnian emigration. To show this influence, the paper examines the Bosnian emigration through the lens of the concept of transnationalism. This paper questions what fields are influenced by Bosnian emigrants and how do they influence those spheres. Firstly, the paper introduces the concept of transnationalism and describes the development of emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to the events in the 21st century. Then it explores the characteristics of Bosnian Diaspora and the discourse about the Bosnian emigration in media and academic literature. Consequently, there are outlined particular fields that are influenced by Bosnian emigrants and practices by which...

Return Decisions of Highly Skilled Migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina after 2005
Andrlová, Anna ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee)
Brain drain, or human capital flight, is a phenomenon which represents a society-wide problem in the post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). At present, more than half of the people claiming BiH nationality live abroad, out of which a significant part possesses tertiary education. Loss of human capital carries negative socio-economic consequences which hinder the country's development. On the other hand, brain gain, i.e. return of highly skilled migrants to their country of origin, might reverse some of the unfavourable effects. Nevertheless, the phenomenon of the return of highly skilled migrants remains under researched not only within the region of the Western Balkans, but also on a global scale. Although this type of migration has increasingly attracted the attention of many scholars from various academic and non- academic fields, contemporary literature on this topic suffers from limitations and tends to oversimplify the returnees' motivations to purely economic incentives. This study attempts to describe the complex factors leading the highly skilled migrants to return to BiH. Based on the 33 respondents' subjective preferences from the spheres of career, family and lifestyle, this work provides an insight into the decisions of returnees in the context of the developing Western Balkan country.
The Greek Migrants to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland after 2009 as an example of the Brain Drain Phenomenon
Žaloudková, Klára ; Karasová, Nikola (advisor) ; Kocián, Jiří (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on one of the possible form of human migration, and that is brain drain. This phenomenon is demonstrated by the case study on the migration of the young highly skilled Greeks from Greece to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland after 2009. The main aim of this thesis is to examine the reasons for emigration of young highly skilled Greeks, and to investigate why they have chosen the UK as their destination. Firstly, the objective push and pull factors are identified by using the existing literature and the statistical data. Secondly, the subjective factors based on the qualitative research using semi-structural interviews conducted by the author of this thesis are introduced, and then compared to the objective ones. The key finding of this thesis is that young highly skilled Greeks had considered the possibility of their personal and professional development as the key determinant to decide whether to stay or to move abroad. The prospects for the personal and professional development are rather bleak in Greece, and thus they have moved to the UK where the prospect seem to be better.
