Relaxation and exercise center
Kalábková, Ladislava ; Obrtlík, Jan (referee) ; Májek, Jan (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the design of an administrative building on Soukenická Street in the bustling part of Brno. Currently, the plot houses buildings with zero utilization, deteriorating structures, and a parking lot. The entire area is unattractive, has limited use, and negatively affects the aesthetics of the intersection of two important streets – Soukenická and Hybešova. The architectural design includes the creation of an attractive corner building with multifunctional use, an underground garage, and a connection to the existing Malá Amerika building, which could have a new functional purpose as a commercial and restaurant passage or art studios. The administrative building offers a ground floor with a restaurant, bistro, café, and shop. Spaces are variable, allowing owners to customize them according to their needs. Additional above-ground floors are equipped with offices, both for larger groups and individuals. The seventh floor features a green accessible roof, a café, and meeting and presentation rooms. The bachelor thesis delves into the details of the administrative building section housing the main staircase with an elevator. Simultaneously, the design incorporates the connection of Soukenická Street with Malá Amerika through a passage in the proposed structure, aiming for potential future use of the building. The work stems from the architectural design studio in the second year, focusing on public structures.

FCK Technology bro
Utíkalová, Kateřina ; Kratochvíl, Jan (referee) ; Štěpán, Marek (advisor)
Technological progress is transforming perhaps all aspects of human activity, not least the way we build. Criticism and reflection is therefore necessary. Optimisation of the unnecessary use of technology and simultaneous use of vernacular principles is one way to reduce the environmental impact. I am designing an apartment building near Zlin, which is based on the context of the place. In the area of the Malenovice sawmill, quality housing in the greenery is being created. The design of the apartment building integrates results of the contemplation of the material, making the most of natural ventilation and solar heat gains. Corner greenhouses are a specific element of the design, combining the benefits of a double facade and greenhouse effect, as well as centrally located ventilation chimneys. These elements contribute to improving the quality of space and have their thermodynamic justification. My goal was to design quality housing using truthfully admitted materials. Timberwork in the Czech Republic is still scarce. This project explores, among other things, the possibilities and limits of timber construction in the design of an apartment building.
Restoration of the former fast in Hodíškov
Centner, Václav ; Špiller, Martin (referee) ; Guzdek, Adam (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor's thesis was to develop the concept of the studio work from the first semester of the third year, which we originally took from concept to documentation for the building permit in part B. Furthermore, the design was finalized in the documentation C for the implementation of the construction. The actual topic was the restoration of the fast house in Hodíšek, which has long since lost its original purpose and is now used as council housing for non-domestic local residents. The Rychta has also undergone several alterations to try to bring new qualities to it, which have been rather contradictory. The Rychta is located in Hodíškov, which is a small village among the hills of the Highlands. We drove to the place through winding roads barely wide enough for one car. Around the roads there were grown-up houses and we actually felt a bit like in another world after arriving from Brno. The Rychta stands on a hill, separating the former sugar factory from the rest of the village. From the hill the tavern looks down on the village and looks majestic as the patron saint of the place. There is also a small pond in the village, which makes the local climate more pleasant and provides a home for all kinds of animals and plants. Hodíškov has 150 inhabitants, so the fast house with its farm wing exceeds the capacity of the locals' demands for a place where they can meet and hold public gatherings. Therefore, in connection with the romantic nature of the place, I thought that the fast house with its farm wing could serve as a setting for weddings and larger social events. This will allow me to bring a more generous spatial experience to the vaulted spaces in the farm wing and restore the spirit of the interior spaces that has been lost during the remodeling of the past years. In my approach to the heritage values of the fast house I am trying to restore its dignity and grandeur on the other hand not forgetting and denying its history which has been so tarnished. Different parameters apply to the economic wing. During the rebuilding process, there were attempts to bring it closer to the speedway with various façade elements and the like. In working with these two buildings I try to establish firmly where each stands and what its role is and was. The wedding program required increased accommodation capacity, which I solved by adding a "barn" to the rear yard space.
Pisárky boating center
Filatova, Natalia ; Obrtlík, Jan (referee) ; Májek, Jan (advisor)
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is the design adaptation of the area of the former water treatment plant in the Pisárky district of Brno for the creation of a new building for a water sports center, utilizing existing structures of settling tanks, and adjacent areas to establish a water sports center. The center's design also aligns with studies for the modification of the Svratka River channel and the creation of a water canal. The architectural concept aims to connect the exterior with the interior. The mass solution is derived from several key points. Firstly, the site is bordered by Pisárecká Street to the south and Žabovřeská Street to the east, intersecting at an overpass of a multilevel interchange. This creates a noisy space, making it essential to establish a "barrier" to create a private and quiet area for relaxation with a view of the river and Pisárky Hill. The sports center building echoes the shape of the streets, with the highest point of the building located at the overpass, and the roof descending along both streets. On these two facades with minimal glass surfaces, the river-facing facades connect to the surrounding nature with glass elements. Secondly, it was necessary to respect the facilities for water sports enthusiasts, situated closest to the river for easy access. Therefore, the water sports center is located several meters lower than the sports center building and is embedded into the terrain along Žabovřeská Street. Additionally, a waterfront area along the river and canal will be designed, connected by descending sidewalks to Pisárecká and Žabovřeská Streets. The shape of the building and the waterfront respects the form of the river and the water canal. This center will serve members of the water sports club and residents of all age groups.

Malá Amerika in Brno
Kalmykova, Valeriia ; Bažant, Lukáš (referee) ; Novák, Petr (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the design proposal for a new multifunctional building called "Malá Amerika" in Brno, based on an architectural study conducted within the course BGA021 - Architectural Design Studio 2 - Public Buildings. The aim of this thesis was to prepare project documentation comprising documentation for building permits, construction documentation, and architectural detail design. The proposed building is in Brno near the historical industrial structure "Malá Amerika" and the Titania buildings, within the area bounded by the streets Úzká and Nové sady. The multifunctional building "Malá Amerika" includes offices, art galleries, a library, a restaurant, cafes, rooftop terraces, and spaces for events. The new construction respects the existing urban and architectural structure of the surrounding development. It consists of five standalone buildings interconnected by an underground parking lot. The massing is composed of several blocks at different height levels connected by accessible terraces. Streets and squares with many interesting perspectives emerge between the individual buildings. The building is connected to "Malá Amerika" by an accessible terrace and designed not to obstruct the historical structure. Towards the Titania buildings, the volumes of the individual building components increase. The project's intention was to create a multifunctional building that would not only be an introverted structure benefiting solely from its perfect location and existing urban infrastructure but also feature ground floors full of commerce and services accessible to passersby even after working hours.
New exotarium at ZOO Brno
Charvátová, Karolína ; Boháč, Ivo (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor thesis is the preparation of project documentation for construction permits and part of the documentation for the implementation of the construction on the basis of the assignment, which was provided in the course BGA036 - Architectural Design Studio 5 in the summer semester Year 3 on the topic of interior design, which was later extended to public buildings. The topic of the study is the design of a new exotarium at the Brno Zoo. The plot of land in question is located on the territory of the Brno Zoo in the South Moravian Region. The concept of the architectural design was to create modern and hygienic spaces for a dignified life of animals in captivity and at the same time to allow visitors to have a glimpse into animal life and behaviour. It is a two-storey, partly basemented building with an open interior space that is divided into two main sections - aquatic life and air life. The basic idea of the project is to provide enough space for animal life in the pavilion, and therefore a large dome-shaped aviary is created for the birds, extending over the entire roof of the building. For fish, large aquariums are created. There is also a lecture room, staff facilities and thermal engineering facilities in the building. All functions of the building have their necessary facilities.
Commercial center Miris Garden in Croatia
Olšáková, Linda ; Vintr, Jan (referee) ; Novák, Petr (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor thesis is the creation of project documentation for building permits and parts of the documentation for construction implementation based on a previously developed study within the course BGA032 Architectural Design Studio 4 in the winter semester of the 3rd year, focusing on public buildings. The project theme involves the new construction of a commercial center consisting of five independent two-story structures. The chosen site is located in Croatia, in the village of Starigrad in the Zadar County. The nearby surroundings are undeveloped, and the commercial center is part of a planned vacation resort. The architectural concept aims for the most efficient use of the existing sloping terrain. Therefore, the center is composed of five standalone buildings, partially embedded into the terrain, following its funnel-like shape. Four buildings have a simple cubic shape, while the fifth has an arched ground plan. The intention is to create shopping streets with shop windows of retail spaces and restaurants facing them. The facades, designed with imitation of exposed concrete, incorporate shading using rotating wooden elements and individual fixed wooden panels. Outdoor spaces are protected by adjustable fabric shading. The commercial center houses rentable spaces for retail and services, restaurant areas, an entrance hall with a reception, and private administrative spaces including necessary facilities.
Commercial center Miris Garden in Croatia
Žilková, Monika ; Doležal, Ondřej (referee) ; Novák, Petr (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor thesis is preparation of project documentation for building permits and part of the documentation for the implementation of construction based on the assignment, which was provided in the course BGA032 - Architectural Design Studio 4. The topic of the study is a design of a new building of the commercial center Miris Garden in Croatia near the town Starigrad. The building is to form the main point of the newly built resort on the sloping coast of the Adriatic Sea. The commercial center is to fulfill a commercial function (with several smaller shops and gastro businesses) and in part of the building also an administrative function, where offices are available for the management of the center and for tenants. The three buildings forming a unified whole are designed in the shape of two central hexagons, creating a space imitating a shopping street. It then culminates in a square with a view of the sea. The center has a total of three floors, which, however, are fitted into the terrain in such a way that when viewed towards the sea it looks like a single-storey building, so it does not disturb the views of the surrounding villas. The new building will be located in an open landscape, so its construction and operation will not disturb any nearby residents in any way.
