Taxes and Ecology

The subject of thesis "Taxes and Ecology" is environmentally-related taxes in the Czech Republic. The work includes a theoretical description of environmental taxes in the Czech Republic, environmental policy instruments, the inclusion of environmental taxes in these instruments, including the relevant international regulations. The theoretical part is followed by comparisons of actual and expected revenue from environmental taxes in the Czech Republic for the years 2008 to 2010, with discussions resulting from the causes of differences. The comparison shows a significant overestimation of the expected revenue from environmental taxes in 2008 and 2009.
Voluntary Instruments of the EU Environmental Policy

This thesis analyses the voluntary instruments in relationship to EU. The goal of this work is to find out, if the voluntary instruments represent a proper mean to protect the environment and how does the European Union stands in their support. At the beginning the thesis introduces the base of environmental policy at the bussiness level and then the EU environmental policy. Next there is described a model of optimal influance of the polluter to the environment. Last two chapters are about the voluntary instruments themselves. After their short introduction the thesis analyses their economical features and how can they be expressed in the model. Then the work answers the question, how does the European Union stands in their support and introduces two unique EU instruments -- EMAS and ekolabel EU.
Competitiveness and Enviromental Protection in the EU

The bachelor thesis examines the impact of the EU environmental policy on the competitiveness in the region. Environmental measures are assesed in the context of macroeconomic competitiveness focusing on climate policy. The theoretical concept of competitiveness and EU climate policy is introduced and their interconnection evaluated. This is applied on the European emission trading system and partially on the situation in the Czech republic. As the direct relationship between environmental policy and competitiveness has not been proved, the empirical studies offer no consensus on potential nor real impacts of the European emission trading system on the EU competitiveness.
The analysis of consumer labels with especial focus on their environmental aspects

This diploma thesis describes marking of goods and services which help raise competitive producers on the market and also help to consumers in decision of purchasing products. In this time there are on the Czech market many labels describing the quality of goods. There is the special focus on the eco-labelling, which is label for positive effect on the environment. In this thesis there is described the history of voluntary approaches in chosen countries. My work analyses labels and their functions on the Czech market. There are also views of consumers on marking goods and services. At the conclusion I investigate producers' options on labels of goods.
Cost analysis and accident response strategy in oil production in entrepreneurial sector in the context of environmental safety concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The role of economic theory in the preservation of nature in Kazakhstan is very current, because mining industry in this country is quite large and it is a considerable burden for the environment. This burden is obvious mostly in extraction and processing of crude oil. The main aim of this thesis is the analysis of state environmental policy with the focus on prevention of oil spills in the Caspian Sea in accordance with "State concept of ecological safety in Kazakhstan in 2004-2015" and also methods of oil spills removal as tools for environment protection including factual techniques and firm based costs linked to the removal of oil spills. Thesis will also include the comparison of effectiveness of existing models for oil spills removal used by companies in Kazakhstan. The first part of work is methodologically based on analysis of secondary sources: scientific articles and literature, ecology bulletins, official data of Ministry of environment in Kazakhstan, firm based data and "State concept of ecological safety".
Environmental policy instruments on a community level

The main aim of this bachelor thesis, "Environmental Friendly Behavior Tools of a Municipality", is to present a summary of environmental policy instruments with the possibility of application on a community level and to valorise a real situation in a community Český Rudolec. The theoretical, methodological part is focused on the environmental policy and on the summary of its instruments. The practical part analyses activities applied by the community in the frame of its environmental policy and seeks for prospective recommendations for a better utilisation.
Tradable permits in Waste Management

In this diploma thesis is being explored the possibility of using tradable permits in waste management as an efficient tool for motivating and guiding market participants. Waste in the world each year is increasing and burdensome for the economy in terms of the cost of disposal or storage, and for the environment in terms of expanding the number of landfills. The European Union has set mandatory guidelines through a specific quantitative value of natural resources in the field of waste management, which Member States are obliged to respect. These include a minimum percentage return and recycling of packaging materials, or the maximum amount of biodegradable waste that can be stored in landfills. The Directive also set the exact dates of compliance with those commitments. The goal of the diploma thesis is to critically analyze existing knowledge and experience in using tools of tradable permits. On the economic analysis follows the discussion options for wider application of this instrument in the regulation of waste management.
