Bibliotherapy in the environment of public libraries

This thesis aims to introduce the notion of bibliotherapy and its application in public library environment. The text is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the notion of bibliotherapy itself is introduced, together with questions of who is engaged in this field, as well as the effects of reading. There are presented several book titles which belong to bibliotherapeutic literature. The substantial part of the thesis is then built on specific examples of bibliotherapy practiced in public libraries in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad. The practical part features first an interview with Mrs Marcela Kořínková who actively engages in bibliotherapy; second, there is a proposal of implementation of a bibliotherapeutic department in an imaginary public library, and last, there is a research presenting the wide public's awareness of, and interest in the field of bibliotherapy.
The support of the childrens' reading in the Czech Republic and German speaking countries

The diploma thesis concentrates on the children's reading issues, and compares the approach to its support in the Czech Republic and the German speaking countries. The introductory part is devoted to the current children's reading, the factors that influence it, and reading interests of today's children. It also evaluates the contemporary Czech children's literature and its publishers. The following two chapters describe the activities for the children's reading support that are developed by Czech libraries and non-librarian entities. The next part introduces the projects for the children's reading support implemented in Austria and Germany; it also shortly describes the programs of other German speaking countries. The sixth chapter briefly outlines the subject matter of the children's reading support in both Czech and foreign media. There are two surveys attached to the thesis. The first compares the activities of selected Czech and foreign libraries, and their contribution to the children's reading support. The second survey, implemented among the children readers of the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, evaluates the children's satisfaction with the offered thematic discussions for the school classes. Newspapers in public libraries

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the activities concerning daily press go in five selected public libraries. In opening chapter the examined branch is delineated by definitions of used terms, previous adaptations of this topic are summarized, and methodology of research based on interview and surveys is introduced. Hypotheses are expressed in the last part of this chapter. In the second chapter all the Czech national daily press is characterized and their internet activities are documented. If those titles have an electronic version, it's functionality is examined in this part of thesis. Chapters 3 and 4 present results of research which was done at five libraries of various sizes.The third chapter presents selected libraries and it describes the workflow of purchasing the press in those organizations with a special emphasis on the process of choosing the material. In the fourth chapter the preferences of readers in selected libraries and the intensity of their interest over time are examined. This part of dissertation also includes analysis of other activities concerning press such as cataloguing and displacing journals. Third and Fourth chapter are closed with summarization of detected facts. In the conclusion assigned hypotheses are confirmed or disconfirmed.
The Internet in public libraries

(anglicky) The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of internet usage in public libraries. The bachelor thesis describes the following topics. Firstly, it describes the definition of the term "Internet" and its overall history and development. The second chapter deals mainly with legislative measures of providing access to information and the functioning of public libraries from domestic and foreign terms. Further work is devoted to projects internetisation, which took place in the Czech public libraries. The penultimate part of the work deals with the Internet services that libraries provide to its users and the future of the Internet in the libraries of the Czech Republic. The last part includes the evaluation of survey that was focused on the Internet usage in public libraries.

(in English) Diploma thesis "Municipal library in Odolena Voda as an information a cultural centre : Project" suggests possibilities of changes and expansion of library services provided by the Municipal library in Odolena Voda and suggests other activities so that it becomes in the future a modern information and cultural centre of Odolena Voda . The author briefly describes the history and current status of Odolena Voda. Another part is focused on analysis of current conditions of the Municipal Library in Odolena Voda - describes its building, the library collections, users and specifies currenly offered library services and activities in which is currently the library involved. The author also summarizes the Czech legislation related to the services of public libraries, and international standards and recommendations for public library services. Services and programs of public libraries in the Czech Republic aimed at immigrants and national minorities

The objective of the thesis is to describe and evaluate services of public libraries aimed at immigrants and national minorities in the Czech Republic and programs to support them. The first part defines the principal terms related to libraries and minorities. An overview of legislation follows, focused on the same topic. The third part introduces five most common national minorities and immigrant groups living in the Czech Republic. The fourth chapter describes all regional libraries in the Czech Republic, two of municipal libraries near the national border where the percentage of minorities is higher and one specialized library with a focus on their foreign- language equipment, events, meetings or exhibitions about or for national minorities or immigrants, their cooperation with various organizations, employees' interest in minorities and a possibility of registration of foreigners at libraries. Following part is about programs and projects supporting foreigners in Czech libraries. The sixth chapter describes selected organizations working in the migration field. Thirty years of Czech librarianship on pages of the "Čtenář" journal (1960-1989)

The aim of this thesis is a formal and content analysis of thejournal Čtenář in 1960 - 1989. The work used the method of content analysis, synthesis, induction and deduction. The introductory chapter describes the general information relating to the national library journal, which is based on more than 60 years. The following chapter is dedicated to the history of Czech Librarianship during the analyzed period. The third chapter presents an analysis of the formal structure of the journal Čtenář. It focuses not only on the graphic design of the journal, but especially on the composition of the editorial board and the authors contributing to the journal. The core work is a content analysis of the journal Čtenář, which is located on the 4th and 5th chapter. The work presents an overview of topics dealt with in the journal over thirty years. Part of the work is an alphabetical name index of all the authors who contributed to the journal. Result of this work is to evaluate one period of development the Czech librarianship, as it was reported in the national library journal.
Management and organisation of public libraries in Great Britain

The aim of this thesis is to describe public librarianship in Great Britain, its organisation and the services. The practice way will be demonstrate on the public libraries in the cities of the four countries of the United Kingdom. The core of the thesis is devided into six main chapters. The brief history of the public librarianship will be introduce in the first chapter with focus on the first public libraries in the UK. The four main chapters analyse organisation and services of the public library networks of the cities - City of London Libraries, Cardiff's Libraries, Edinburgh City Libraries and Belfast NI Libraries. These four chapters describe and analyse organisation, services, equipment, culture events, libraries's PR. At the end of these chapters there are a summaries of the libraries's strenghts and weaknesses. In the last, summary chapter, there is a final analyse of all libraries services and organisation, there is also comparation and at least description how the british public libraries work. Demonstration of this will be shown on the public library network of the cities and on the model of typical british library. At the end there are advices for czech public libraries. Current resources and opportunities of public libraries funding in the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the current situation regarding the funding of public libraries in the Czech Republic. The introduction comprises a concise definition of the legislative framework for funding public libraries. In the main section of the work the author deals with the system of libraries providing public library and information services and how these libraries can be established. Then the analysis of the financial resources that can be used by these libraries follows, i.e. grants by founders, national and international programs and projects to support libraries, fundraising, donating, sponsoring, patronage, volunteering, grants by foundations, libraries' own business. There is also a description of pricing and financial policy, analysis of the financial management of libraries in various regions and the influence of the economic crisis on library budgets. The main part of the thesis related to the whole Czech Republic is followed by the part aimed only at the Central Bohemian. The aim of Bachelor's thesis is to describe Library of Vinohrady move in year of 2007. Initial part focuses on procedure of library move in theory, including definition of known methodics. Next parts of thesis focuse on the Library of Vinohrady move. The library is introduced including its brief history and comparison of library characteristics before the move (2006) and after the move (2008). Library move is described as a complex workflow which starts with design and reconstruction of new premises, continues with library collection move and ends with library re-opening. Thesis also emphasizes practical issues related to library move and describes their solutions.
