Rudolf Němec - Imprint, Silhouette, Grid
Jindrová, Tereza ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (referee)
Tereza Jindrová: Rudolf Němec - imprint, silhouette, grid Abstract This Bachelor's dissertation deals with the work of painter Rudolf Němec (born 19. 5. 1936). It is focused on his work in a period from the middle of The Sixties to the end of The Eighties and it observes the works of painting, the works on paper and other experiments using different medias (photography, film, instalation, performance). The dissertation provides a deeper insight into the work of Rudolf Němec throught formal and content interpretation and it put his work into context ot the new figuration.
Grid representations of graphs and the chromatic number
Balko, Martin ; Valtr, Pavel (advisor) ; Kratochvíl, Jan (referee)
Grid Representations and the Chromatic Number Martin Balko August 2, 2012 Department: Department of Applied Mathematics Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Pavel Valtr Dr. Supervisor's email address: valtr@kam.mff.cuni.cz Abstract In the thesis we study grid drawings of graphs and their connections with graph colorings. A grid drawing of a graph maps vertices to distinct points of the grid Zd and edges to line segments that avoid grid points representing other vertices. We show that a graph G is qd -colorable, d, q ≥ 2, if and only if there is a grid drawing of G in Zd in which no line segment intersects more than q grid points. Second, we study grid drawings with bounded number of columns, introducing some new NP- complete problems. We also show a sharp lower bound on the area of plane grid drawings of balanced complete k-partite graphs, proving a conjecture of David R. Wood. Finally, we show that any planar graph has a planar grid drawing where every line segment contains exactly two grid points. This result proves conjectures of D. Flores Pe˝naloza and F. J. Zaragoza Martinez. Keywords: graph representations, grid, chromatic number, plane
Analysis of Biblical Texts Using the Grid-Group Method and Its Application to the First Epistle to the Corinthians
Oudová Holcátová, Barbara ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Halík, Tomáš (referee)
In her book Natural Symbols (1970), the British anthropologist Mary Douglas discussed the question of why and how are certain trans-cultural religious phenomena combined into different systems of understanding the world. She sought the answer in various types of social situations in which the systems of ideas are formulated, and tried to analyze them using two variables, "group" (the amount in which certain group's borders are defined in contrast with the rest of the society) and "grid" (the amount in which the role of an individual in society is determined and in which the individual's system of classification is shared by others or determined by them). These two variables enable us to sort different religious cosmologies depending on what ideals they paint in these respects and what demands they make of an individual. Mary Douglas compares this theoretical concept with existing cultures, assesses how similar their cosmologies are in respect of these two points of view, and examines whether there are matching social arrangements, norms of action and the like. On one hand, she enables us to put otherwise isolated cultural phenomena in an overall frame of meaning, on the other hand the application of this approach to religious ideas opens many possibilities of finding connections between religions in the...
Improving efficiency of HEP applications
Horký, Jiří ; Zavoral, Filip (advisor) ; Falt, Zbyněk (referee)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) located at CERN, Geneva has finally been put in production, generating unprecedented amount of data. These data are distributed across many computing centers all over the world that form the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG). One of the main issues since the beginning of the WLCG project is an effective file access on the site level in order to fully exploit huge computing farms. The aim of this thesis is to explore existing data distribution work flows, standards, methods and protocols. An integral part of the work is the analysis of jobs of physicists to understand input/output workloads and to discover possible inefficiencies. Then, new upcoming solutions are evaluated in terms of performance, sustainability and integration into existing frameworks. It is expected that these solutions will be based on distributed file systems such as NFS 4.1, Lustre and HDFS.
Flow Parameters Simulation Technique in Annular Turbine Cascade INLET
Jelínek, T. ; Němec, M. ; Uruba, Václav
This article summarizes the concept of equipment which produces the required flow parameters at the inlet of annular turbine cascade. The investigation of inlet flow parameters - the boundary layer on hub and tip inlet channel end-walls and the inlet flow turbulence are part of a project intent on a flow in multistage steam turbine arrangement. This variable inlet can produce the laminar or turbulent boundary layer, respectively the laminar or fully turbulent velocity profile in the inlet channel. The change of inlet turbulence level is controlled by the grid. The detailed measurement of inlet flow: the turbulence and the total pressure distribution across the height of inlet channel were performed by HWA (hot wire anemometry) probe and by total pressure probe, respectively. The measurement results characterize the inlet flow for several inlet channel arrangements and are used for the experimental investigation of the flow field inside the stage and as the inlet parameters for CFD simulations.
Design and properties of low-frequency amplifier with vacuum valves
Piroha, Ladislav ; Musil, Vladislav (referee) ; Šandera, Josef (advisor)
The purpose of the bachelor’s thesis is explanation of theory and construction of low frequency tube audio amplifier with UV meter. Main focus is on history and development of vacuum circuits from its early beginning, on electrical parameters and applied physical principles. Explanation of operating characteristics of amplifier classes and comparison of vacuum tube sound acoustic performance against transistor amplifier one. Finally, there is build description of single ended amplifier class A.
