Grandfather
Auerová, Veronika ; Sobotka, Jiří (referee) ; Gabriel, Michal (advisor)
In my bachelor thesis I portray my grandfather as a life-size sculpture. The main emphasis is on the surface treatment of the sculpture, where I imitate the texturing process using photographs, which usually takes place in a virtual environment. The resultant statue is very lively, even naturalistic.
The glass shepherd
Dohnalová, Tea ; Fajnor, Richard (referee) ; Gabriel, Michal (advisor)
The topic of my thesis are menhirs. Specifically, the largest Czech menhir known as the Stone Shepherd (3200 cm). The aim of this work was to transfer the exact shape and size of this megalith and materialize it here in Brno. This goal required the use of many procedures. At the beginning there was a photo shoot, then a 3D program, 3D program editing, and slicing into contour lines. Then I projected the menhir on a wall in real size and traced it to polystyrene boards. The next step was to cut out all 104 plates on a band saw and I could go to gluing and folding the whole object. The final step was to paint the object in white. The result is a simple and clean polystyrene object. I did not cover the contour lines - I present the object in the most direct form possible. The styrofoam megalith, despite its size, is a sculpture in the interior. Ideally, I would create an installation that would create a separate, isolated space for the object.

Functionalized Polystyrene Nanomaterials for Biomedicinal Applications
Dolanský, Jiří ; Mosinger, Jiří (advisor) ; Dědic, Roman (referee) ; Zimčík, Petr (referee)
Nowadays, there is an increasing risk of bacterial infections from bacteria strains resistant towards antibiotics. Thus, it is of utmost importance to research novel therapies which can overcome this difficulty. The presented thesis focuses on the preparation, characterization and antibacterial evaluation of polystyrene polymer nanomaterials (nanofiber membranes and nanoparticles) modified with compounds that can efficiently inhibit bacterial growth either by their nature (polyethyleneimine) or by photoactivation upon visible light excitation (NO- photodonors, photosensitizers) and consequent production of highly reactive inorganic bactericidal species, nitric oxide (NO) and singlet oxygen (O2(1 g)). All materials were fully characterized by several independent methods. The concentrations of NO and O2(1 g) were measured by amperometric and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques and by variety of chemical analytic procedures. Due to the presence of bactericidal species and the efficient photogeneration of NO and O2(1 g) at physiological conditions, all materials exhibit strong antibacterial action tested on a Gram-negative bacterial strain Escherichia coli. Hence, these functionalized polymer nanomaterials may be intriguing systems for medical-, biological-, or environmental- application where a...
Functional polymer foams
Hána, Tomáš ; Pospíšil, Ladislav (referee) ; Jančář, Josef (advisor)
Functional polymer foams are considered as a promising field which could potentially produce foams with added value. Specifically, functionally graded foams are materials which are expected to provide better mechanical properties while preserving low density in comparison with regular foams. In this thesis, a preparation process of such foams is designed, examination of prepared structure and comparison of mechanical properties with regular foams is performed. The obtained results are discussed and further research in this field is proposed.
The development of a TGA-MS based method for determination of microplastics in soils

The study of sulphonated polystyrene nanofabrics with encapsulated sensitizer
Hrdinková, Veronika ; Mosinger, Jiří (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Pavel (referee)
The diploma thesis is dedicated to the exploitation of sulphonated polystyrene nanofibres as ion exchange nanomaterial. Ion exchange capacity of these nanomaterials has been determined by titration method and AAS. The effect of sulphonation on photophysical, photooxidative and photocytotoxic properties of sensitizer 5,10,15,20-meso- tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) encapsulated in polystyrene nanofibres has been studied as well. Properties of TPP have been examined with time-resolved spectroscopy, photooxidation of uric acid as substrate and bactericidal tests on Escherichia coli DH5α with pGEM11Z plasmid. It has been discovered that following the sulphonation of the nanofabrics, the encapsulated sensitizer is partly present even in aggregation form. The polystyrene nanofabrics with encapsulated sensitizer keep its bactericidal efficiency also after sulphonation.
The influence of the outdoor temperature on the properties of the reinforced layer in the implementation of ETICS
Novotný, Michal ; Gašparik,, Jozef (referee) ; Schmid, Pavel (referee) ; Sedlák,, Petr (referee) ; Lízal, Petr (advisor)
The trend in today's civil engineering are growing demands for quality and comfort constructed buildings and spaces in them. This trend causes a change in the approach to designing buildings and building new buildings. One of the main directions great importance is attached dedicated reconstruction of buildings and their technical adjustments to meet the ever increasing demands being norms and laws. One of the most monitored parameters are thermal-technical characteristics of objects - i.e. better quality means saving on heating costs. In this connection there is a big trend of the modern construction industry and building insulation, mainly ETICS systems. Dissertation focuses on the basic (reinforced) layer of the ETICS and examines the effect of low temperatures, acting on the matter in the implementation of the system, the properties of this layer. This coating is one of the key elements of the system, which more or less determines the quality and durability of the system. The first part deals with the current state of the problem and generally insulation systems, basic types and the advantages and disadvantages of these systems. In the main part of the work is solution focused work, its objectives and methodology for testing materials using laboratory tests and are mentioned outputs of experiments in terms of results. The final section addresses the evaluation of the data and results and output for construction practice. The theme of work was also addressed in the specific research. The works are also numerical and graphical attachments to records of experiments and calculations.
