Media image of the dance issue in the czech media based on content analysis of selected print and broadcast media in 2011

The aim of this Diploma thesis is to create a media image of dancing issues in the selected Czech media in 2011. The research is focused on the selected Czech national dailies and weeklies and public broadcast media. The introductory chapter deals with the dance types which were identified in the content analysis and the development of dance in the country. The space is also dedicated to the Czech dance education, theater facilities, selected dance groups and the summary of existing studies of the dance phenomenon in the field of media studies. The second chapter is devoted to the methodology, the process and outcomes of the research part of the thesis. The quantitative content analysis was determined to be the method of the research part of this Diploma thesis. The third chapter is based on the results of a quantitative content analysis. The chapter is focused on the current dance reviewers, whose texts were identified in the research part of the thesis. Another part of the chapter is dedicated to the publishing of dance topics in the national media and the individual communication with selected personalities of Czech dance critics identified in the results of quantitative content analysis. Era of Zdenek Hofbauer's activities at the Pilsen Municipal Theatre in 1948 - 1953

This bachelor thesis deals with period in between 1948 and 1953 when Zdeněk Hofbauer was artistic director of J. K. Tyl Theatre. I focused on the drama group, nevertheless I also mention another two theatre artistic groups. Text is devided into two main parts - the first is about Zdeněk Hofbauer (his personal and professional life) and the second is about each theatre season in Hofbauers era in Pilsen. The main resources for this work were studies of theatre critics in the newspapers, the Pilsen archive of J. K. Tyl Theatre and publications about period Czech theatre.
Lifestyle and relationships in the subculture of ballet

This thesis deals with the lifestyle and relationships among professional ballet dancers. Previous studies that have focused on this group, have not focused on the lifestyle as a complex phenomenon, the goal is therefore to supplement existing knowledge in this matter. Given the recent research coverage problem, the thesis uses explorative approach to the conceptual level based on the concepts of lifestyle and subculture and it uses methodologically a qualitative approach. In particular, the conceptual basis in the form of subculture largely determines the orientation, the process and the structure of the paper. It figures as a tool that allows us to organize a view of professional ballet dancers. After defining the concepts related to ballet and introducing the factual account of events enabling to look into the historical and institutional context in which Czech ballet dancers act, followed by a description logic of its study in this paper, including basic concepts of introducing subculture and lifestyle, and clarification of the used methodology. The results of qualitative research among professional ballet dancers that form the core of the paper, are then presented in the next section. The Literary Works of G. Angiolini and J.-G. Noverre in the context of the 18th century

This dissertation offers a commented translation into Czech language of works written by two most important choreographers of the 18th century, Italian Gasparo Angiolini and French Jean-Georges Noverre. It is a selection of their most important texts where they develop an inovative aesthetics of the dramatic ballet – ballet en action. An introductory chapter about theatre aesthetics of the first half of the 18th century is included in the beginning of the work where I summarize the most important discussions of the period and topics that inspired the choreographers to their reform in the art of dance. Futhermore, a chapter refering to the sources for this work is attached to each commented translation.
Analysis of the 1st Act of Ballet Giselle

This master thesis deals with analysis of the first act of ballet Giselle. It is focused on the dramaturgy, dramatic actions and psychology of the characters. It compares different images of the first act from these sources: original libretto by Théophile Gautier and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges, notes by russian ballet master Antoine Titus, manuscript of Henri Justamant, libretto by Rostislav Zakharov, simplified choreographic script written by Cyril Beaumont and Leonid Lavrovsky's choreography written down by Natalia Konius. Attention is particularly focused on Justamant's manuscript and Konius's written record.
Ballet School of The J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen

Summary This bachelor thesis describes of the history of the Ballet School by The J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen. It deals with the circumstances of its origin and describes its development. At the same time it introduces particular pedagogical personalities, who took turns in the lead till the 1989. First chapters refer to the oldest history of this Pilsen dance institution. The middle section mentions the problems which the school had to face durin‎g World War II. Furthermore it describes the reviving activity of Josef Skoda and presents the biggest boom of the school during the leadership of Jiri Nemecek. The end is dedicated to the teaching system of Milada Papezova and her overall reorganisation of the school. The supplement includes period documents, photographs and a table with the overview of performances the students of the Ballet School performed between 1947–1989.
Valentin Yelizariev, choreographer of the belarusian ballet

This thesis discusses the work of major Belarusian choreographer, Valentin Yelizariev, during the second half of the 20th century. Through his work, we can follow the development of the Belarusian Ballet. The first part of this thesis will focus on the origins of The National theatre of Belarus and the advent of Valentin Yelizariev. The second part is about his artistic creation in Belarus, focusing on the years 1970 through to the 1980's. In conclusion, this thesis highlights the uniqueness of the personality Valentin Yelizariev and his importance to the Belarusian Ballet.
School of the Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier

This bachelor thesis provides an overview of the School of the Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier, particularly in respect of the current teachers, the teaching methods and the graduates. One of the subchapters describes the Ballettzentrum Hamburg – John Neumeier building, the current location of the school and the companies. This thesis outlines the functions of the school as an institution that combines teaching with practical experience at the world-known ballet company of the Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier. Such unique educational approach enables students to develop into professional dancers and succeed in their careers, whether this is in ballet companies around the world or in the choreography field.
Choreograhy between intermediality and interactivity

This work defines the term interactive media and explains how it differs from the till now known term “new media”. It leans on the history of technology progression and the theory of new media. For better understanding of how one views new perception, it touches the basics of esthetics. It maps the development of dance visual forms labeled as digital dance and it lists the main pioneers and their methods. In the final part of the thesis, three current artists who use interactive projections in their performances are listed and their work is analyzed.
Nelly Danko – Teacher of a Dance and Ballet Master

This thesis describes the current professional career of an artist Nelly Danko. She has been working at the National Theatre in Prague for more than forty years as a dancer, ballet master and assistant choreographer. Today she is one of the most influential and important pedagogical personalities at the Dance Conservatory in Prague. The primary source for this text was a conversation with her and her very close colleagues who worked with her during the life. The secondary sources that I have used were available publications, which I found in the Theatre Institute and articles about dance.
