Use of social networking sites to support virtual teamwork in organization

The thesis is focused on utilization of social networking sites as a tool for virtual team collaboration support. The first goal is to identify critical success factors of virtual teamwork, which are currently not supported by groupware tools, based on description of virtual team characteristics and processes. Identified critical success factors represent the basis for the completion of next goal, which is to describe aspects of social networking sites, which are able to support the identified critical success factors. That leads to the main goal of the thesis, which consists of two main parts. First part is the analysis of social networking sites aspects influence on virtual teamwork critical success factors. The second part is the practical solution of utilization of social networking sites for virtual teamwork support. Final solution includes all social networking sites implementation phases starting from choosing the product, implementation process and ending with setting of team processes and utilization principles. Social networking sites aspects description is based on current enterprise information systems trends and the final solution results from the analysis and synthesis of findings from both previous thesis parts. The main contribution of the thesis is the solution of social networking sites utilization inside the organization and providing of practical instructions for implementation of social networking sites in order to support virtual teamwork.
Analysis of groupware applications in SaaS model

This bachelor thesis is focused on general characteristics and analysis of the Software-as-a-Service groupware applications. The main goal of this work is to choose, evaluate, compare and recommend suitable groupware applications for small and medium enterprises. The study of characteristics of groupware and Software-as-a-service business model is based on expert books and internet sources. The analysis of the market is built on a complex research of the internet and the use of the technological reports about groupware products. The selection of the products that are discussed in depth is based on the criteria coming from Gartner and Forrester reports. The evaluation methods are built on software product quality methodology, web content accessibility guidelines, and SaaS groupware specifics. The benefit of this work is the generated method for evaluating groupware applications taking into account general requirements of small and medium enterprises. Thanks to this method the chosen products are reviewed, compared and evaluated. Another contribution is a list of Software-as-a-service groupware products currently available in the market. The first chapters describe the terms Software-as-a-service and groupware in wider context. The next chapter presents the list of Software-as-a-service groupware products. The following chapter is about determination and creation of the evaluation methods. The last part contains evaluation, comparison and recommendation of groupware applications. The study is concluded with a summary of results emerged from the research.
Evaluation of the groupware applications on the Czech market

This thesis on the topic tools for collaboration support is focused on groupware applications dealing with more than one function simultaneously. The aim is to determine a group of major products on Czech market, to test their functionality, to evaluate their mutual advantages and disadvantages from user's perspective and determine the most suitable applications for small and large groups. To achieve above stated aim, first, we have to note, what the tools for collaboration are. Second, we have to determine what features should be included in the groupware. Third, we need to specify what criteria and weight which we intend to evaluate these instruments with. Another important step is to determine the specific applications that will be tested within the frame of this thesis. For this purpose serve especially the results of keyword search on the Internet and informal small-scale statistical surveys obtained by author of the theses. The main part of the thesis includes testing of chosen applications depending on its availability. The greater part of chousen applications is being tested in the trial version with the temporary license for use. In the end of the, the results gained by tests will be compared and evaluated.
Usage of Microsoft SharePoint in small and medium business

This thesis focuses on the possible usage of Microsoft SharePoint in small and medium size companies. The main objective is to introduce a system that came brand new in 2010 and is called the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation and is precisely designed for the given segment of market. The thesis describes the technology with regards to the division of the market, current financial expenses for the company and procedures for obtaining the software. It also contains necessary hardware and software requirements to ensure performance and stability in relation to business processes. Following is the description of a fictitious company in which the system is introduced virtually from the basic product installation, division of the costs needed for training employees to post functionalities suitable for use in a given environment. I find the added value in the practical experience collected during my work on this project. In particular, during installation, set up of rights, simple integration with Active Directory, SQL, and the pre-defined business processes.
Software products for team colaboration of University students

The goal of this thesis is to acquaint the reader with the term groupware, present situation of products in the collaboration software area and compare chosen applications which can be used for team collaboration of university students. First, there are explained basic concepts related to the topic, then there are explained criteria used for the applications selection and then there are closely described applications chosen on the basis of these criteria. Then the applications are mutually compared by the written criteria, evaluated by the established methodology and at the end there is written recommendation for students to choose the appropriate application. This thesis and the final recommendation will serve as a guide for university students in choosing the appropriate application when working in team on a team project.
Applications for team cooperation support

The topic of the presented diploma thesis revolves around team cooperation support applications, also known under the term groupware. The author first explains the common terms pertaining to the issue at hand and subsequently places these applications into the information system infrastructure of an organization. Afterward, the functions of these applications are listed and characterized in more detail. The core of this thesis lies in outlining a method of evaluating these applications in terms of their meeting predetermined criteria (groupware, the SaaS model, free of charge, general scope of functions). From the user's perspective, the applications are evaluated by criteria divided into four areas (graphic design, user-friendliness, functionality, technological compatibility). Weighted average is instrumental to the analysis. The method puts accent on flexibility, fair-mindedness, reusability. The final part of the present diploma thesis is devoted to the underlying principles of the manual which would help team leaders to choose the right groupware application.
Analysis of Hosted Applications for Support of Virtual Teamwork

The focus of this thesis is to analyze how online hosted applications available free of charge can be used to support work in virtual teams. The objectives are first to characterize virtual teams and groupware applications, and then to analyze the scope and functionality of available applications including more detailed evaluation and comparison of certain selected applications (which also support collaborative document creation). Key factors that need to be considered when choosing applications for virtual teams are identified along with other characteristics of virtual teams and team processes. A brief outline of the characteristic features of groupware applications and the SaaS model is followed by comprehensive analysis of various categories of available applications and their functionality. This analysis includes recommendations regarding the suitability of different applications for specific teams and situations. Services offered by suppliers of more complex sets of applications, which include applications supporting collaborative document creation, are analyzed and compared in greater detail. Some of these sets are recommended as a suitable foundation for complex support of the work of a virtual team. The whole analysis is closed by an illustrative case scenario, which can be used as an educational tool to enable people to get to know the basic principles of virtual teamwork and of some of the applications analyzed in this thesis.
Usability of groupware in leisure activities

Groupware products support collaboration in an enterprise environment, however their components are often used in everyday life. Also the collaboration is present in many different activities. This bachelor's thesis first analyzes the current use of groupware components (e-mail, discussion boards, and calendar) in the community of science fiction fans and deals with present problems in communication, cooperation and coordination. After that, it states requirements for the system, which should improve the situation. Finally, it evaluates selected system (a combination of Google services) and demonstrates its use. The purpose of this paper is to decide, how groupware is useful in the community, and prepare for its full deployment.
Implementace Microsoft Exchange Serveru v malých a středních firmách

Práce vyhodnocuje podmínky, za kterých je pro firmu výhodné implementovat a provozovat Microsoft Exchange Server. Uvedeny jsou nároky na provoz řešení, jak softwarové, tak hardwarové a způsoby licencování. V popisu funkcionality jsou zdůrazněny funkce, které tvoří přidanou hodnotu produktu. Vzhledem k trendu rostoucích požadavků na mobilní přístup k elektronické poště, je celá jedna kapitola věnována možnostem přístupu z různých platforem a mobilních zařízení. Dále je diskutováno zapojení řešení do firemního informačního systému, možnosti integrace a interakce s jinými serverovými produkty. Vyčísleny jsou rámcově celkové náklady vlastnictví řešení pro malé a pro střední firmy. Popsány jsou i přínosy vyplývající ze zavedení Microsoft Exchange Serveru. Závěrem jsou všechny faktory vyhodnoceny a vyvozena doporučení za jakých podmínek je implementace Exchange Serveru vhodná.
Technologie Microsoft SharePoint v podnikové praxi

Stěžejními produkty jsou zde Windows SharePoint Services a jejich nadstavba Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server. Popsána je základní architektura, základní stavební prvky, webové části, principy bezpečnosti nebo možnosti vyhledávání a customizace. Samostatná kapitola je věnována i možnostem vývoje webových aplikací na platformě SharePoint.
