The thesis Dr. Jan Herben - Journalist and Politician (1857-1936) maps the life of this distinguished journalist and politician of the late 19th and early 20th centuries from his studies till the end of his professional career. It is based on literature about Jan Herben or about the period of turn of the century, on periodicals of that time, and archive materials found in the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague and in Herben's summer house in Hostišov. It focuses mainly on the period of publishing the Čas periodical which under Dr. Jan Herben became the main daily of the Realist Party of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, on affairs linked to the publication of Čas, including the disputes over the authenticity of two ostensible early medieval Czech manuscripts, a wave of protests following publication of the first editorial Our Two Questions by Hubert Gordon Shauer, the Hilsner affair, or Dr. Jan Herben's accusation of embezzlement of funds collected for orphans in the town of Most. The introductory chapters describe the reasons for the economic, social and political crisis, resulting in the unrest in Europe in the early 15th century and is shown activity Hus's predecessors Konrad Walhauser, John Milíč of Kromeriz, Matthew of Janov, Vojtech Raňkův from Ježov, Thomas Štítný of Štítné. The diploma thesis is also engaged in the work of John Wycliffe, who influenced the thinking of scholars throughout Europe, including Bohemia, where from his thoughts and opinions drew Jan Hus. The core diploma thesis is to analyze the life and the work of Jan Hus, its importance for the development of Czech history. Hus, influenced by his predecessors, became a leading critic of the Church and its influence goes beyond the 15th century. 99 Summary Buberův kulturní sionismus a Masarykův humanismus - komparativní studie Buber's Cultural Zionism and Masaryk's Humanism - Comparative Study Marie Venclová This thesis deals with various aspects of understanding the term nation, its roots and dimensions in the works of Martin Buber and Tomas Garrigue Masaryk. The comparative study is based on analysis of Buber's Three Addresses on Judaism and Masaryk's Problem of a Small Nation. In these texts the philosophers present their attitudes and ideas about the meaning, origin and content of the existence of a nation. The results of the comparison show, that their points of view are similar in more than a few aspects and what most importantly bonds their ideas is the moral, spiritual and cultural understanding of the meaning of a nation. Furthermore, they both stress the responsibility of each and every individual part of the society for implementing such ideas into practice. Buber's cultural Zionism as well as Masaryk's humanism are also concepts based on critical self-reflection and need of education, which serves to broaden horizons and identify positive values in one's own nation. The Diploma thesis "Thomas G. Masaryk's journalistic activity" aims to analyze Masaryk as a journalist. The thesis describes the process of Masaryk's evolution from childhood and school years through his university studies in Vienna and Leipzig till his move to Prague, where he worked at the local university. It emphasizes all the major aspects that formed his personali-ty. It focuses mainly on his position in the magazines Athenaeum, Čas and Naše doba, which then influenced many events. The issue is settled in the historical and cultural social context of the second half of the 19th century.

This master thesis presents an analysis of two personalities Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and Karel Kramář before the First World War. The main theme of this paper is to description their complicated relationship. Next part of this paper describes their political and social activities, their opinions and life attitudes at this time. This thesis is based on examination of their mutual correspondence. The purpose of this paper is to present comparison, analysis and interpretation of the relationship of T. G. Masaryk and K. Kramář in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The aim of this thesis is analysis of the friendship of two men Tomas Garrigue Masaryk and Edvard Benes, who cooperated together during the First World War. They established foreign resistance movement and took Bohemia to the independence. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first and the second chapters deal with the biographies of both politicians till year 1914. The third chapter describes correspondence between these two men, their age difference and the creation of foreing resistance movement. The last chapter is analyzing friendship and cooperation between T. G. Masaryk and E. Benes, their conversations, which was not only about their friendship, but they were about business matters too.
The Role of Russia in the Czech Political Context according to K. H. Borovský and T. G. Masaryk

The role of Russia in the European context underwent a very interesting development from the 19th century onwards. The Czech political elite's attitude towards Russia is very interesting as it kept changing from the 19th to the 20th century. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the different tendencies towards the role of Russia in the Czech political context. This thesis focuses on the role of Russia in the works of Karel Havlíček Borovský and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Other significant politicians will be mentioned as well, such as František Palacký or Karel Kramář, with a special focus on their attitudes towards the role of Russia in the Czech political context.
Antonín Knížek (1890-1974) in the services of the democratic ideal

This thesis captures the unusual life of legionary and teacher Antonín Knížek, native to Staré Hrady. Based on studies of literature and personal collection of Antonín Knížek placed in the literary archive of the Monument of national literature in Prague (secluded division in Staré Hrady). Thesis is divided into three thematic parts. The first reflects the life of Antonín Knížek from birth to his death, which due to his lifespan (1890-1974) was largely influenced by both world wars, as shown in both his educational activities and literary works. Next part deals with his era in the Czechoslovak Legion in Russia. Based on his extant diaries, an effort is made to map Knížek´s intellectual world of 1917-1920. The third and last part is aimed at variety of his literary works.
Masaryk´s criticism of democracy

This Bachelor's degree thesis presents the personality of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk and his attitude to democracy until the First World War. The beginning of this paper presents Masaryk's life and his studies at high school and university. The study documents his political activities and opinions on parliamentary system. It also describes Masaryk's relation to the Czech history. The substantial part of the thesis is composed of the analysis of Masaryk's pre-war works and democratic beliefs. The paper tries to uncover whether Tomas Garrigue Masaryk always supported democracy, or if there were any criticism towards democracy or speculation about it. The study explains Masaryk's opinions on humanity, morality and religion. There are photographs in the thesis' supplement.
