Language Policy in Norway in the 20th Century and in the Beginning of the 21st Century
Do ní spadají pravopisné reformy z let 1907, 1917, 1938, 1959, 1981, 2005 a 2012, zákony o užívání jazyka, politika sbližování nynorsk a bokmål s cílem vytvořit společný jazyk samnorsk a vytvoření jazykového orgánu Språkrådet (Jazykové rady). The thesis deals with the approach to linguistic issues which emerged in Norway after 1814 when Danish domination ended. During the domination Danish replaced Norwegian in written communication. It was...
Bilingualism management in the situation of language shift: Discourses, problems and the landscape of Belarus
Changes in the French language policy in relation to regional languages
Miškovská, Veronika ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Miklošová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis treats the subject of French language policy for regional languages. Even though the position of French as the only official language of French state is undeniable the question of regional languages and its support is still a topical problem of French society. The evolution of French language policy for regional languages is the main subject of this thesis as well as all elements that have been influencing it. One part of this language policy is the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, which France signed in 1999 but remains unratified. Despite the flexibility of commitments deriving from the Charter ratification of this document remains to be seen as a menace for the roots of the French republic . Therefore France can't/doesn't want to ratify the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. This thesis analyses main obstacles for ratification of the treaty which is especially important for its strong symbolic meaning. These obstacles are defined as juridical, ideological and political.

Repková, Gabriela ; Horák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Ferklová, Blanka (referee)
Chinese characters using in classical Chinese (hanmun) have long history of using in Korea. After an invention of the Korean alphabet - hangŭl begun the first attempts to using hangŭl beside hanmun. Attempts have gained strength during the centuries and in 19. century the thoughts about exclusive using of hangŭl have begun showing up. The prohibition of using characters in both parts of Korea was accepted in the middle of 20. century. The North has stopped using characters completely but teaching of characters at schools is still alive. In South Korea was later accepted that for the temporary time the characters will be using beside hangŭl. The idea that Korean language needs to be purified of various foreign elements fully show after the end of Japanese colonial administration in 1945. Various linguistics and government societies were concerned with this issue. In the North purification got stronger mainly in 60s of 20. century, in the South in 70s. Nature of language purification in the North is different from nature of language purification in the South and this led into deeper differences in vocabulary of the both states. Key words: Chinese characters, hanmun, purification, language policy, purification movement

Pelíšková, Eva ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
This master's thesis examines the first decade of independent Ukraine in terms of language policy and political organization. It purports to show the impact that Ukraine's political independence had on the national and language situation in the first years of its existence. The first part of the thesis deals with the demographic, national and political state of affairs at the outset of the examined period, in 1989. The second part provides an analysis of the most important laws and other official documents that were supposed to influence further developments in the language policy. The third part deals with the actual evolution in individual spheres of life, namely education, media, bilingualism, administrative and territorial structure, and demographic changes. The conclusion answers two questions, firstly, "How does the reality differ from the plans in the official documents?", and secondly, "What changes can we notice in the language and territorial issue of Ukraine after the first decade of its independence?"
