Types of grammatical mistakes made by secondary school pupils (ages 11-15) in their dictation exercises

The topic of bachelor thesis is the types of spelling mistakes in dictation of pupils of lower-secondary school. The theoretical part focuses on orthography, its historical development and division. It also deals with the overview of the types of the spelling exercises. The core of this part is the characteristic of dictation, division of dictations, principles of dictated text and marking of finished dictations. The practical part is elaborated on the basic of dictations and their subsequent analysis. The aim of the thesis is to determine which spelling mistakes the pupils of the 9th class are most likely to commit, in which phenomena they make no mistakes, or they make at least mistakes in them.
Concept of the specific set of words in the Czech language in which writing "y" instead of "i" is obligatory, as reflected in Czech language textbooks for primary schools

The dissertation work deals with the issue of grammatical problems, the importance of grammar, especially with the concept of specific set of words in which writing "y" instead of "i" is obligatory. The theoretical part contains the brief summary of the Czech grammar and the function of grammar. The research part of the thesis includes the research concerning knowledge of pupils at primary and secondary school. The practical part focuses on methods, forms of work and motivating games, which are useful for improving the effect of learning the specific set of words. The practical part also contains the worksheets for the pupils of primary and secondary school.
The grammar exercises at the 2nd level of a primary school education

The theme of bachelor's work is teaching spelling in the second grade of elementary school. The work will be divided into theoretical and practical part. The aim is to establish the current state of spelling knowledge of pupils in elementary schools. The theoretical part will be devoted to selected manuals of spelling, history, development and division of the Czech spelling. The theoretical part will study spelling of pupils in the second grade of elementary schools. The chapter will be devoted to the subject matter in the various grades of the second degree, on the basis of the FEP (the framework educational programme) and textbooks that pupils use. The practical part will be based on the analysis of the spelling exercises, which will be developed by the pupils of the second grade of elementary schools. On the basis of the evaluation ofthe exercise will be described the most common spelling mistakes made by pupils.
The issue of punctuation in the teaching of the Czech language at the second grade of primary school

The bachelor thesis is focused on the issue of punctuation in the teaching of the Czech language at the second grade of primary school. The theoretical part deals with general rules of using punctuation in simple sentence, compound sentence and complex sentence. The second part of theory deals with comparison of interpretation and the type of exercises in chosen contemporary textbooks of Czech language for eighth and ninth grade children. The practical part is about checking a level of achieved knowledge of punctuation at the eighth and ninth grade children.
Teaching Silent Letters to Czech Learners

This diploma thesis follows up on the bachelor thesis which dealt with the phenomenon of silent letters and which was created by the same author. This bachelor thesis has revealed that Czech learners tend to mispronounce every fifth word containing a silent letter which should be seen as alarming. The diploma thesis therefore tries to find some way how to change this situation. The theoretical part of this thesis focuses on the analysis of various techniques and materials which are concerned with silent letters. In the practical part this materials are adjusted to the needs of the Czech learners in order to create a battery of activities which would cover this area of pronunciation. In the next step these activities will be introduced in English classrooms. In the research we will monitor the progress of the respondents over a larger period of time and assess how effective the created activities are.

Awareness and Knowledge of Lexical and Spelling Differences Between British and American English Among Czech Students of English

This thesis is concerned with lexical and spelling differences between British and American English. The theoretical part provides an overview of the history and development of those differences, including a list of selected high frequency items. It also focuses on the role of American culture in the world and its impact on the English language. The practical part is based on a survey and attempts to discover whether Czech upper secondary students are aware of British and American English and the differences between them, with special attention to the media dominated by American English and their influence on students' language competence. The topic of this bachelor's essay are word forms of Czech personal pronouns já and on whose codification changed since 1930s and cognate word forms of relative pronoun jenž. The work analyses the articles which suggested or defended these changes and concentrates on how they argued for them. Then it sums up descriptions of these forms in current grammar books and dictionaries. Finally, it explores several phenomena connected with these forms in synchronic corpora. Critical points in the Czech language at elementary school

The thesis deals with the critical points of teaching Czech language at the elementary school. The aim of the work was to identify the citical points of teaching Czech language to the sixth grade of the elementary level. The identification of the critical points was done through a qualitative analysis of the discussions lead with teachers of Czech language. The theoretical part of the work characterizes the Czech language curriculum in the sixth grade and its didactic apporoach in commonly used textbooks. Conceptions, such as the cricital point and the mistake are defined. The practical part of the work contains the analysis and the interpretation of the discussions carried out with the teachers. The program Altas.ti was used for the evaluation of the obtained data. The critical points of Czech language in the sixth grade of the elementary school were found to be the phenomena in the realm of syntax, morphology, and spelling. In the realm of syntax, the critical spots of the greatest weight were: the ability to think logically, the knowledge of the basic linguistic phenomena, the understanding of the syntactic relationships and the terminology. Development of French spelling since the 16th century with special regard to accent circonflexe

The major aim of the thesis is to study the development of French spelling since the 16th century with main focus on the diacritical mark accent circonflexe. The individual centuries are analysed step by step from the linguistic perspective with the historical context addition. The most significant pieces dealing with the French spelling from the period of a formation of spelling rules to the current period of spelling reforms and their consequences in 2016 are analysed. This thesis focuses on the development of the mark accent circonflexe in detail. The main intention of the thesis is to describe the introduction of this mark to the French spelling, its struggle for survival, an extension and gaining its importance till its official status when it becomes the French spelling icon threatened by the reform of spelling in 1990 proposing the restriction of this mark. The research part in the form of a questionnaire is added to the master thesis. The opinion of native francophone people on the reform of spelling, especially on accent circonflexe is under examination.
