Models of binaural hearing
Drápal, Marek ; Maršálek, Petr (advisor) ; Wünsch, Zdeněk (referee) ; Lánský, Petr (referee)
In this work is presented stochastic model of binaural hearing in context of another alternative models. According to latest experimental data on mammals, inhibition plays a role in interaural time difference recognition, which is a key for low frequency sound source localization. The outputs of experiments may lead to the conclusion that the binaural hearing works differently in mammals compared to birds. Nowadays there are a few theoretical works addressing this new phenomena, but all of them are relaying on a very precise inhibition timing, which was never proved as physiologically valid. On the other hand, models described in this work are based on the fact, that every neuron has a random delay when reacting to an excitation. If this time jitter is taken into account and combined with inhibitory signal, delay in the neuronal circuit and coincidence detection, then the output firing rate corresponds to the azimuth of the sound source. In this work it is shown, that such a neuronal circuits are giving the same output results compared to experimental data. The models are supported by analytical computations and numerical simulations including simulation of cochlear implant.
Inclusive education of a pupil with a cochlear implant
Závěrková, Jiřina ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Bartoňová, Miroslava (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on the inclusive education of pupils with hearing impairment. In the theoretical parts there is a problem with hearing impairment, cochlear implantation and the educational process of a pupil with a cochlear implant. It acquaints us with diagnostics and classification of hearing impairment. Other advantages about the advantages and disadvantages of the cochlear implant and the possibility of communication of people with hearing impairment. It also includes an introduction to the concept of inclusion. In the practical part, the work is believed to be a pupil with a cochlear implant included in a regular primary school. It was processed on the basis of interviews and participatory observation. Look for what you want, whether you have ink ribbon and how it is taught by educators and the student's parents.
Impact of cochlear implant on vestibular function in adult patients
Ištoková, Lucie ; Kučerová, Klára (advisor) ; Čakrt, Ondřej (referee)
Bibliographic identification IŠTOKOVÁ, Lucie. The influence of cochlear implant on vestibular function in adult patients. Prague: Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, 2020. 58 p., Appendices. Thesis supervisor Mgr. Klára Kučerová. Abstract Severe hearing loss is standardly treated by cochlear implantation. Considering the anatomical proximity and interconnection to the vestibulocochlear nerve, it is possible to influence vestibular functions. The aim of this diploma thesis is to evaluate the effect of unilateral cochlear implantation on postural stability and vestibular function in adult patients with severe hearing loss caused postlingually. Eleven patients aged 28-72 were examined the day before surgery, the day after surgery, and on average 25 days after surgery. The evaluation consisted of short-form Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), Timed Up and Go testing (TUG), static stabilometry and the perception of the subjective visual vertical (SVV) static and dynamic. Significant deterioration of TUG and SVV was recorded particularly immediately after surgery. In dynamic SVV, especially, when the field of view rotated to the left. Considerable results in stabilometry were only when standing on a hard surface with eyes closed. Improvements in TUG, SVV...
Communication development in children with autism spectrum disorder and cochlear implant
Vovsová, Alena ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
The thesis deals with the communication development in deaf children after cochlear implantation, which have at the same time diagnosed autism spectrum disorder. The theoretical part is divided into three chapters. First two chapters deal with specifics of hearing impairment, or rather autism spectrum disorder, and its effects on the overall development of the child with an emphasis on communication ability. There are briefly introduced the classification of hearing impairments and compensation aids related to the topic of the work - hearing aids and cochlear implants. There is also space devoted to the characteristics of particular autism spectrum disorders. The third chapter describes the most common communication systems or aids used by persons with hearing disabilities, more precisely with the autism spectrum disorder, and the possibility of communication of people with a combination of these two disabilities. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to qualitative research, which main objective was to find out how obtaining a cochlear implant may influence the development of communication of a deaf child with autism spectrum disorder. As part of the research, interviews with parents of these children were conducted. These interviews were supplemented by open-ended questionnaires addressed...
Inclusive education of children with cochlear implants
Svobodová, Bára ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Bartoňová, Miroslava (referee)
This work concerns the inclusive education of children with cochlear implants (CI). The theoretical part is devoted to the introduction to the issue of hearing impairments and their diagnostics. It provides informations on the issue of the cochlear implant and its history. It describes companies producing cochlear implants and implantation of their products in specific hospitals in the Czech Republic. The last theoretical chapter focuses on the education of children with CI, supporting measures and it contains selected studies about teachers' opinions on the inclusion of these children. The practical part of the work was carried out in the form of an online questionnaire survey inspired by one of the studies (Dulčić a Bakota, 2009) mentioned in the theoretical part. The research was enriched by open and semi-closed questions to obtain qualitative data, in addition to the quantitative part. The basis of the research was to find: whether teachers welcome the inclusion of children with CI. Further aims of the research were to find: how teachers are informed about the cochlear implant, what are the opinions of interviewed teachers on the inclusion of children with CI into their schools and how interviewed teachers are experienced with these children. Research has shown that the vast majority of teachers fully...
Theory of mind in preschool cochlear implant users
Cajthamlová, Tereza ; Komorná, Marie (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
This thesis deals with theory of mind in preschool cochlear implant users. The theoretical part introduces topics: hearing impairment in childhood, cochlear implantation, theory of mind in preschool children and development of preschool children. All these topics are processed with regard to the issue of children using cochlear implant (or implants). In addition to general information, the thesis focuses mainly on the results of current foreign researches concentrating on children using cochlear implants. The empirical part summarizes the research of theory of mind in Czech preschool cochlear implant users. Thirty-one children in total participated in this research, eleven cochlear implant users, and twenty intact children in the control group. Theory of mind has been tested by similar desires task, dissimilar desires task, Smarties task, and Sally-Ann task. In addition, a short questionnaire was distributed to the parents of cochlear implant users. In order to assess competences in the Czech language, the cochlear implant users were given Vocabulary test from test battery of Seidlová-Málková and Smolík (2014). On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that theory of mind is delayed in Czech preschool cochlear implant users in contrast to their hearing peers. These results...
