Speech and language therapy in persons with an autistic spectrum disorder

The dissertation deals with the issues of speech intervention for the people suffering autistic disorders in the Czech Republic, and is divided in two main chapters - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part sums up the current information related to the terminology, symptomatology, etiology, diagnostics and special-education or therapeutic approach to the individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Due to the orientation of this paper we are taking closer look at the specific features of impaired communication abilities of the selected clientele. The practical part aims at both the analysis of the current situation of speech therapy provided in the Czech Republic and the supply of comprehensive information (recommendations) for its implementation with the people suffering from autistic disorders. Questionnaire was selected as the main method to analyze the speech therapy provided, distributed to three homogenous groups of respondents (clinical speech therapists, special education teachers and parents of the children with autism spectrum disorder). Development of phonemic hearing in children with impaired verbal communication skills utilizing the D.B. Elkonin method

The topic of the thesis is the development of phonematic hearing in children with impaired verbal communication skills, utilizing the method of Danil Boršovič Eľkonin. It deals with the training of language skills for selected kindergarten children with special needs. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. It summarizes theoretical definitions of basic terms such as language, speech, and communication. It describes disturbed communication abilities and its classification, it deals more with the characteristic of developmental dysphasia. It also deals with the concepts of phonetics and phonology, describes phonematic hearing and phonematic awareness. Last but not least, it outlines D.B. Elkonin's personality and his methodology. The practical part is of a qualitative character, which will give us access to the analysis of methodological procedures that we chose for this analysis. It describes five children with impaired communication skills throughout the training. Education of a child with impaired communication abilities in elementary school ordinary type

The thesis deals with the education of children with communication problems at a regular primary school. The theoretical part describes the ontogenetic development of speech, speech disorders and language planes. The second chapter deals with communication and impaired communication capability. There is also a subchapter on autism, Asperger's syndrome, developmental dysphasia and the principles of communication with children with the above disadvantage. The concepts of alternative and augmentative communication, the concept of inclusion with its legislative framework and development after 1989, where the Framework's educational plan and the brief characteristics of the educational field Czech Language and Mathematics are mentioned, are also explained here. The practical part describes first-class coping in children with autism, developmental dysphasia and Asperger's syndrome. Especially the coping of mathematics and the Czech language. There are elaborate case studies and interviews with teachers who led these children in first class. In conclusion, several recommendations for pedagogical practice are made.
Communication skills of people with moderate mental disabilities in institutional care

This diploma thesis deals with communication skills of people with moderate mental disabilities in institutional care. The theoretical framework is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on adults with moderate mental disabilities. First, it defines and characterizes adulthood, further defines and classifies mental disability and lastly characterizes adult individuals with mental disabilities. The next chapter is devoted to communication, which is defined along with communication skills. This chapter also describes symptomatic speech disorders of people with mental disabilities and individual language levels and the impact of mental disability on them in detail. The last chapter of the theoretical part approaches the support of people with mental disabilities in the framework of social services. First of all, it focuses on the history of social services for people with mental disabilities, then on the legislative consolidation of social services. Logopedic interventions in kindergartens in the foothill of the Orlické Mountains

The diploma thesis is oriented on special education. The main goal is to find out and describe whether and how is speech and language therapy established in regular kindergartens at the foothills of Orlické mountains. The work is divided into five chapters, four of them are theoretical and the fifth chapter is a practical one. The first chapter is focused on the way how the preschool education is organised in the Czech Republic. It describes the legislation system, clarifies the system of curricular documents established in our republic and mainly the framework educational program for preschool education. The second chapter describes the preschool-child ontogenesis including all aspects of his/her personality and it also depicts the child-speech ontogenesis. The third chapter is focused on the main types of impaired communication ability of preschool children. The fourth chapter is focused on the speech therapy intervention provided in the Czech Republic. This master's thesis deals with speech-language pathology (SLP) intervention provided in kindergartens to children with hearing impairment. The theoretical part of the thesis acquaints the reader with the topic of hearing problems, hearing compensation possibilities and the most commonly used communication strategies in the educational process of children with hearing problems. Continually, it describes the ontogenetic evolution of speech in children with hearing impairment and its specifics in different speech levels, aquaints with SLP intervention, its structure and organisation in Czech republic and describes frequently occuring types of disrupted communicational abilities in pre-school children. The closure of the theoretical part describes the pre-school education trends when it comes to children with hearing problems. The main goal of the practical part is to map out and comment on the way SLP intervention is provided in pre-schools for children with hearing impairment.
