Fertility and uncertainty
Lupač, Milan ; Melzochová, Jitka (advisor) ; Matějka, Marek (referee)
This paper focuses on effects of economic uncertainty on decision making about childbearing. We had used a regression analysis of unbalanced panel dataset of 27 european countries with maximal lenght of time series of 52 years to determine relationship between fertility and uncertainty. Proxy variables like real GDP per capita, unemployment and their volatilities were used to measure the rate of uncertainty. Volatilities were created by using GARCH and EGARCH models. There was found that real per capita GDP is positively related to fertility and unemployment is related negatively. On the other hand the relationship between volatilities of real per capita GDP and unemployment are positively related to the fertility, but only till the moment when the volatility reaches turning point. Thereafter this relationship turns into negative. Positive relationship on fertility was also found for infant mortality, marriage rate and female labor participation rate. Negative relationship on fertility was found for divorce rate and old dependency ratio.
The Game of Life: the Economics of Contraception Market
Řípová, Eva ; Šťastný, Daniel (advisor) ; Zemplinerová, Alena (referee)
This thesis deals with the contraception market in the context of decision making about children, trying to outline the consequences of this market for the economy as a whole. The first section introduces the market and defines the key role of the market for the women making the decision. The second part introduces the agents in the market with their incentives and motivations. The third part moves into closer detail paying attention mainly to choice problems and uncertainty problems. The forth part focuses on game theoretical framework and various strategies from which the players are choosing. The fifth part presents a range of models for situations in the market derived from "games" on the prisoner's dilemma principle. These games result in the hypotheses involving consequences of particular behaviour in the market. The sixth part tests the hypotheses from the previous chapter, using evidence from selected countries including Czech Republic, United Kingdom, United States, and China. The conclusion specifies future development that is uncertain but based on the current facts.
Změny porodného a načasování porodů
Pažitka, Marek ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Bartoň, Petr (referee)
On the 1st of April the amendment to the Act on State Social Support came into force. This amendment increased the amount of birth grant on more than a double. The increase was announced less than nine months, ahead of implementation, nevertheless, the mothers behaved strategically in order to gain from that benefit. That way, the April 1 reaches on the biggest value of the adjusted relative number of births of the entire year 2006. On micro-data, I used the Regression-discontinuity design (further stated RD) and I found out on the 99% of confidence interval that 64 to 158 births were moved from the last week of Mach to the first week of April. The mothers, who had more children, were divorced or those expecting twins were most often likely to shift their childbirths. I was unable to verify my hypothesis, of children's health being in danger due to lack of observations. I also successfully point out robustness of my RD results with the help of other econometric methods.
Methods of family planning at Romany woman
ŠULCOVÁ, Iva
In this thesis, I addressed the issues of the Romany population, in particular family planning of Romany women. My thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and the other is practical. The first part dealt with the history of the Romany population, Romany customs, rituals, housing, family, children, etc. These phenomena were separately applied to the multicultural nursing model - a Giger-Davidhizar model. Due to globalization and population migration, I emphasized the need to use and apply the model of multicultural nursing as an integral part of nursing care. In the second part of my thesis, I carried out my research through semi-controlled interviews with five randomly selected Romany women aged between 20-40 years. Five objectives and related research questions were defined. All the objectives were met. Research question 1, whether Romany women are aware of family planning methods, was not answered definitely. Research question 2 shows that Romany women use family planning methods. Research question 3 resulted in the finding that Romany women use hormonal contraceptives in family planning. Research question 4 explained that Romany women do not find family planning important. The respondents replied to research question 5 ? what Romany women?s needs in primary care are ? in the sense that they do not have any specific requirements. My bachelor thesis can be used as a resource for midwives who want to learn about the problems of the Romany population and family planning, as well as for working midwives who would apply the knowledge in the field of multicultural nursing his their practice, recommend adequate contraception in primary prevention and educate Romany women on when, how and under what circumstances to start a family. The general public, especially young girls, who begin their sexual life, will find here an overview of all available and used methods of contraception.
