Cultural and Mental Representations of Czech Mountain Ranges
Konrádová, Tereza ; Lapka, Miloslav (advisor) ; Vávra, Jan (referee)
The subject of this work is to describe czech mountains as a qualitatively different phenomenon from most of the other territory of the Czech Republic. The work is divided into four chapters. The first two chapters outline the theoretical background and methodology. On the basis of this methodology, the other two chapters analyse the landscape of the Bohemian Forest on three levels: natural, cultural and symbolic. The conclusion summarises the findings of field research carried out on the "Vintířova Stezka". Keywords: cultural representation, landscape, mountain ranges, spiritual dimension, cultural ecology
Traditional Method of Transporting Material in the Krkonose Mountains.
Smrčka, Aleš ; Pargač, Jan (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Tereza (referee)
This bachelor's thesis named Traditional Method of Transporting Material in the Krkonose Mountains acquaints the readers with the modes of material transportation in the Krkonose Mountains by traditional transport means from the mid 16th century to the present day. As far as transportation is concerned, the colonization by the Alpine residents occurring in the second half of the 16th century was of a great importance. The colonials coming from the Alps were invited to the Giant Mountains to harvest and subsequently transport timber. They were using traditional means of transportation, as for instance chutes, barrows, wheel-barrows, "loktuše" (square bagging), frame backpacks and sledge, when working in the forest, timber floating or lodge and chalet building. The specific means of transportation were selected according to the material transported, terrain, season and partially to the gender of the worker. Some of the transportation means gradually changed their purpose. For example the bob-sleigh was later employed in tourism and nowadays - instead of material transportation - is mainly used as sports equipment. Today, horses are usually employed to draw timber logs down from the areas of higher altitudes.
The exotism of the travels in the old czech voyages and the chivarlic novels
Heřmanská, Kateřina ; Hošna, Jiří (advisor) ; Matějec, Tomáš (referee)
The bacheloral work is aimed at the topic of the exotic area's construction in the old czech voyages (The Marco Polo's Million, The voyages called Mandevilla) and the chivarlic novels (The chronicle of Bruncvik, The Duke Ernest). We want to find connections between literary pictures of the exotic places and the common reception of the World and unknown space. Firstly we prepare simple teoretic base, which describe medieval people's dreams and ideas of the mysterious, exotic places on the East and the position of the new genres (voyages and chivarlic novel) in the czech literary context of the beggining of the 15th century. Than, we compair four old czech works, which use travels as the main theme of the story, and find the same or similar motives of the exotism. The construction of the place is made by three elements, which have their own symbolic meanings; it is a picture of the landscape, containned horrible deserts and pleasant spaces, fantastic or real flowers and animal, and mainly strange people, whose physical deformations reflect their different lifestyle. The conclusion of the results and their comparation to the teoretic base is described in the summary.

Title: History of the Mountain Rescue Service in the Czech Republic The content of this paper is history of the Mountain Rescue Service in the Czechoslovak and later Czech Republic. The aim of this study is to accord comprehensive and clear information on the history of rescue in the mountains and to bring lay people the working of the Mountain Rescue Service at all. Based on available resources, i.e. materials of the textbooks, articles on the history of the Mountain Rescue Service, archival documents, narratives of historians and former members, the website of and the status and constitution of the Mountain Rescue Service, is here compiled history of the Mountain Rescue Service since the very beginning of rescue assistance in the mountains and establishing, through its development between the two world wars, boom after the Second World War and create a single national organization of the Mountain Rescue Service, to the recent history of this organization. At the close of this paper is described in more detail the history of area Vrchlabí and the tree of members of Mountain Rescue Service. Keywords: Mountain Rescue, Krkonoše, area Vrchlabí, rescue, first aid, hiking, skiing, avalanche accidents, a member of the rescue team, Mgr. Vladimir Vaina, Otokar Štětka
The influence of the position of the object at the price and cost of the building
Čepl, David ; Výskala, Miloslav (referee) ; Aigel, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this theses is to assess the effect of position of the object to its price and costs. It is done to define the possible positions of the object, costs and prices of the structures at selected locations. Prices and costs in selected locations are compared, assessed and evaluated. Therefore, the influence of position on price and costs of the structure is assessed.
Comparison of spruce sawflies of the genus Pristiphora in the mountains after 10 years
Englártová, Šárka ; Holuša, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Lukášová, Karolína (referee)
The presence of sawfly Pristiphora was observed in mountain areas in 2015, particularly in Beskydy (Bařiny), Šumava (Královský Hvozd) and Krušné hory (Klínovec). Observation was carried out in there mentioned areas in young spruce stands.Sawflies were cathed help by Malaise trap. Locations were controled every 14 days from April to July 2015. Sawflies were categorized into species and then by gender. At the end results were obtained by statistic program, which confirmed close dependance between flying activity of sawflies and spruce sprouting.
Structure and dynamics of arboreal ant communities along successional gradient in a mountain tropical forest of New Guinea
MOTTL, Ondřej
I analysed the structure and dynamics of a community of tropical arboreal mountain ants in Papua New Guinea over a succession gradient. There were 9 plots divided into 3 successional stages of forest (old (<50 years), middle-aged (20-30 years) and young (>13 years)). I found 24 species of arboreal ants in total. Gamma and alpha diversity differed over the successional gradient, and alpha diversity was correlated with tree size (DBH). Unexpectedly, beta diversity (number of ant species per tree) was low in middle-aged forest, i.e. it had the greatest ant species similarity between trees, probably due to forest structure (stem density and canopy connection). In contrast, the species composition of ant communities did not differ over a succession gradient, because most of the species were abundant in all forest stages. Similarly, there was also relatively little difference in composition of nest types between different successional stages. Here I have shown that succession had little impact on the structure and dynamics of tropical arboreal ant communities in high elevation, probably as a result of ants' adaptation to lower temperatures and ecological change to trophic generalists. But other factors such as absence of invasive species, food supply, and forest structure may play a significant role. In summary, local logging and shifted agriculture have relatively little impact on ant communities in mountain tropical forests. This is in contrast to similar studies from lowland rainforests and my results hence have a positive implication for tropical forest conservation of ants in mountain regions.
New records of Chironomus MEIGEN species (Diptera, Chironomidae) in the Novohradské Mountains (South Bohemia)
Matěna, Josef ; Matěnová, V.
C. longistylus Goetghebuer and C. sp. South Bohemia were found as new species for the Czech Republic. Karyotype of the new species is presented together with preliminary mapping of chromosomal arms A, C, D, E, F. C. cingulatus, melanescens, nuditarsis, uliginosus and C. (Camptochironomus) palidivittatus are recorded for the first time from Novohradské Mountains. Notes about distribution and ecology of these species are given.
Mixed-layer crystal structures of the hydrobiotite type in tuffs of the Doupovské hory Mts. region
Melka, Karel ; Adamová, M. ; Haladová, I.
Mineralogical investigation of mica flakes occuring in tuffs of the Doupovské hory Mts. Was carried out as part of a regional study on volcanistic rocks. The volcanic area of the Doupovské hory Mts. Belongs to the extensive Ohře Rift originated in Early Cenozoic time. The phlogopite-bearing tuff, green-grey in colour, was collected from an outcrop at Oleška near Doupov. Based on geochemical criteria, the volcanistic rock studied contains some tephra clasts derived from alkali basalt-basanite rocks.
