The problem of immigration in the programs of the ČSSD and ODS
Halaj, Vladislav ; Brunclík, Miloš (advisor) ; Stauber, Jakub (referee)
UNIVERZITA KARLOVA FAKULTA SOCIÁLNÍCH VĚD Institut politologických studií Vladislav Halaj Problematika imigrace v programech ČSSD a ODS Abstrakt práce v anglickém jazyce Praha 2018 Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine problematics of immigration in context of two ideologically different political parties which have had permanent representation in the Parliament of Czech Republic since 1993 - ČSSD and ODS. The analysis starts with the year 2012 when neither media nor political agendas did assign any importance to this topic. The whole examination will end with year 2017. An issue will be considered through views of both mainstream parties: how they approach topic in bounded time interval and if they tried to exploit anti-immigration moods in society by embracing dislike of immigration in their schemes. Besides, in my thesis I will be dealing with how both parties are approaching problem of immigration, what solutions are offering and how big portion of their agenda this issue takes. I will examine ways questions about migration evolved during the whole period and how terrorist attacks affected these changes in connection with the migration crisis. In view of the fact that politician parties belong to one of the major players in political process, my thesis will investigate how big...
Regionální média a uprchlická krize ve vybraných krajích České republiky
Rodová, Zuzana
This bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of refugee crisis and migration and with the projection of this theme in regional media. The aim of the thesis is to point to how migrant people are portrayed in regional media and to evaluate whether the picture of migrant people is consistent in regional daily newspapers on the basis of comparison of two regional mutations of the chosen medium. Then our aim is to suggest advice and recommendations for balanced coverage of this theme in the news. The theoretical part of the thesis offers insight into current migration trends in Europe, definitions of basic terms such as refugee crisis, refugee, migrant, asylum-seeker, international protection etc. Also we deal with the influence of media on the formation of public opinion and opinion on refugees. The following chapter presents our analysis of a small sample of articles in foreign media. We show how journalists write about migration in regional newspapers behind the border of the Czech Republic. In the empirical part of the thesis we try to find out, through content analysis of websites of two regional mutations of Deník, how the theme of the refugee crisis and migration is reflected in regional media. We find out that the portrait of refugees in regional media is rather consistent and the differences are given mostly by the personality of a journalist. Media agenda in regional newspapers rather do not correspond to real development of refugee crisis at the given place. It rather corresponds to the reality at the level of the Czech Republic or the European Union. We suggest essential recommendations for better covering the theme at the level of language and we call for deeper context.
A semiotic Analysis of the Terms "Refugee" and "Migrant" in the Context of the Current Immigration Crisis
Fridrichová, Jesika ; Podzimek, Jan (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is semiotic analysis of terms "refugee" and "migrant" in the context of the current migration crisis. The thesis deals with analyzing these terms as semiotic signs. It deals with the way in which selected media treat these terms. Three Czech media were chosen for the research, with 15 selected articles containing research terms from each of them. The sample includes serious news (Aktualne.cz), tabloid news (Blesk.cz) as well as a blog (Blog iDnes.cz) as a journalistic platform, to which anyone can contribute. The research deals with the influence of the media on the formation of concepts and is framed by the theory of social construction of reality presented by T. Luckmann and P. L. Berger. The thesis deals with analysis on the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic levels. In the theoretical part, the theory of social construction of reality is outlined first. Then the thesis briefly introduces the circumstances of the migration crisis and the basic differences in the meaning of the analyzed signifiers and finally introduces the analytical concepts, which are Morris classification of semiotics, Saussure's distinction between syntagmatic and paradigmatic relationships, as well as interrelationships in which individual words can appear in the text. The practical part then...
Measuring monthly statistical crime in Germany and the Czech Republic in relation to the European migration crisis
ŠÍPEK, Matěj
The diploma thesis is based on a defining of a complex goal: Investigation of the dependence of monthly (in connectivity with the possibility of obtaining data also annual) crime in selected European countries and in relation to the European migration crisis. Germany and Czech Republic became selected countries. A monthly and annual crime index was used to achieve the comprehensive goal of the work thesis To achieve the goal, hypotheses H1, H2, H3, H4 were determined: Hypothesis 1 (H1): Monthly crime indexes in the Czech Republic and Germany do not correlate. Hypothesis 2 (H2): Monthly crime indexes in the Czech Republic and Germany have different theoretical divisions. Hypothesis 3 (H3): The annual crime indexes in the Czech Republic and Germany do not correlate. Hypothesis 4 (H4): Annual crime indexes in the Czech Republic and Germany have different theoretical divisions. Through the practical part of the thesis it was found, that the monthly crime indexes in the Czech Republic and Germany do not correlate and have different theoretical divisions (H1 hypotheses and H2 were confirmed). It was also found that indexes of annual crime in the Czech Republic and Germany strongly correlate and have the same theoretical divisions (hypotheses H3 and H4 were not confirmed). The reason for the confirmation of hypotheses H1, H2 and non-confirmation of hypotheses H3, H4 was probably different time periods for data collection (monthly crime included the period January 2011 to December 2016, monthly crime in Germany had to be calculated from the annual crime, due to data collection problems crime was based on data sets from 1987 to 2016). The introduction of different time periods was forced by the difficult availability of data in Germany. The methodology of the thesis used in the theoretical part is mainly search of available literature. Professional literature, valid legislation and Internet resources have been studied. The methodology of the thesis used in the practical part is based on methods of statistics, used for data processing using tables, graphs and basic calculations, due to it is possible to verify hypotheses. Basic statistical descriptive methods were used in order: Formulation of statistical survey, Scaling, Measurement, Elementary statistical processing. Basic statistical mathematical methods were used in order: Non-parametric testing, Linear regression analysis, Linear correlation analysis. Data collection was performed as follows: a) Czech forensic statistics were downloaded from the databases of the Czech Police, which also contain criminality for individual months. Furthermore, the number of inhabitants from the Czech Statistical Office was found for individual years. Crime indexes were calculated from these data. b) The BKA database (Federal Criminal Office of Germany) did not publish criminal statistics. For this reason, an article was published through ntv.de that published the annual crime of Germany. Population numbers for individual years were found through the Federal Statistical Office of Germany. Crime indexes were calculated from these data. At the end of the thesis there is pointed out the solution of possible crisis situations, including problems involving aspects of migration. The great importance of reducing crime is mainly prevention with a sensitive link to the solution of migration issues - to help in areas associated with the emergence of eg migration waves and thus preventing a crisis situations. The thesis did not deal with the political aspects of all examined hypotheses. Methodologically, the diploma thesis can be characterized as a report on the applied research solution in which its quantitative dimension prevails.
Measuring monthly statistical crime in Germany and the Czech Republic in relation to the European migration crisis
ŠÍPEK, Matěj
The aim of this diploma thesis is to investigate the dependence of the monthly criminality in selected European states in relation to the European migration crisis. To achieve the goal, I needed a literature search to help me get information to understand the issue. These were, in particular, the concepts of migration. Find out what migration is like a crisis situation. What impacts and how it can be addressed. At the end of the theoretical part I deal with criminality. What it means and how to work with it. In the practical part, I used mathematical statistics to confirm or refute my hypotheses. In particular, I used the formulation of statistical survey, scaling, elementary statistical processing, nonparametric testing, linear regression analysis and linear correlation analysis. The practical part is divided into monthly and annual statistics. In the monthly statistics, I investigate the crime rates of the Czech Republic and Germany from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2016. For yearly statistics, I count with the annual CRI and SRN crime rates from 1987 to 2016. In the practical part, it is clear that the indices of monthly crime in the Czech Republic and Germany are not corrected and have different theoretical distributions. But for the annual criminality indices, it has been reported that annual crime rates in the Czech Republic and Germany are very strongly correlated and have the same theoretical breakdowns. At the end of the thesis I point out the solution of the crisis situation. In particular, I point out that the most important is prevention. Helping the problem area to prevent a crisis situation. But if the crisis situation occurs, be able to solve it. I also want to point out that this work is apolitical. That is why I would disagree if someone had used it to promote political views.
Visual representation of migrant crisis in Czech printed media
Zitka, Lukáš ; Láb, Filip (advisor) ; Géla, František (referee)
The Master's thesis 'Visual representation of migrant crisis in Czech printed media' examines how certain czech newspapers informed about migrant crisis. The first part of the thesis introduces the core theoretical concepts, that serve as a basis for the analysis. Furthermore it includes a brief overview of the events linked to the migrant crisis. The analytical part presents the method of content picture analysis. Part of thesis named 'research results' offers a comparison of different approaches of individual newspapers, namely Deník, Mladá fronta DNES, Hospodářské noviny and Právo, towards the publication of photographs about migration crisis. The last chapter evaluates the results and findings of this research
The rights and duties of self-employed persons working in the European Union with regarding to social securement.
TOMANOVÁ, Leona
The Bachelor thesis deals with the rights and obligations of self-employed persons working within the European Union with a focus on social security. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and the second one is empirical. In the theoretical part, the basic facts about the rights and duties of self-employed migrants in social security are presented, that are summarized using available literature and current legislation. These systems are constantly changing and therefore the information only relates to the current state. In the empirical part, the goal was to find information about self-employed persons about their duties and rights when moving within the European Union with a focus on social security. The research part was performed by a qualitative research strategy and through a semi-structured interview. The results are processed by groups and they are graphically displayed using tables. The communication partners were chosen by the method of effective selection. Ten migrant self-employed person were chosen. The research has highlighted the importance of self-employed persons being introduced to their social security rights and obligations in the European Union, not only because of their better information, but also because the number of self-employed persons in more states of the European Union is steadily rising. In mapping the legal awareness of the self-employed, it turned out that only half of the respondents were able to refer to most of the questions asked. The results of the work could be beneficial for students in social sciences and for working persons who come into contact with this issue.
The Attitudes of Students of Czech Universities to Refugees
SOUKUPOVÁ, Edita
The Bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of refugees and current attitudes of Czech university students, male and female, towards this issue. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part which is elaborated on the basis of reference sources and defines important terms that are necessary for proper understanding of the issue. This part aims to clarify the issue of refugees. It also addresses important Czech and international legislation on this topic. Furthermore, it deals with what refugees are going through when they arrive in the destination country. The practical part is elaborated in the form of quantitative research with the use of questionnaire technique. The questionnaire investigates the opinions and attitudes of Czech male and female university students to refugees and the current migration crisis and what factors influence these attitudes. The data was obtained through a questionnaire distributed electronically to respondents for 20 days during February 2017. A canonical corresponding analysis (CCA) was carried out using Canoco 5 programme to process the data. The questionnaire was sent to male and female university students in the Czech Republic. Participation was voluntary and anonymous. In the introduction, respondents were informed that the questionnaire would be used for research purposes only as part of a Bachelor's thesis. They were also informed about the Bachelor's thesis. Questions were formulated to show what the attitudes are of Czech male and female university students towards refugees. Questions were asked to discover whether the students were willing to accept refugees in the Czech Republic, provide assistance to them, and whether they were worried about refugees. It was also important for the research whether they were well informed about important terms such as "refugee" and "migrant". The following hypothesis was formulated: "Students of Czech universities who are already working and living on their own have a friendly attitude towards refugees." This hypothesis was confirmed in the quantitative research. Students who are not financially supported by their parents during their studies would accept refugees in the Czech Republic and provide them with some help. Moreover, they are not worried about refugees and are interested in the current migration crisis. The second hypothesis was formulated as follows: "Students of Czech universities who have studied abroad have a friendly attitude towards refugees." This hypothesis was also confirmed in the quantitative research. Students who have studied abroad as part of their studies would accept refugees in the Czech Republic, provide them with some help, they are not worried about refugees and are interested in the current migration crisis.
Téma uprchlictví v denících Mladá fronta Dnes a v Hospodářských novinách
ANDĚL, Marek
The topic most frequently covered in the Czech media in 2015 was the migration crisis. This topic is treated in the present thesis by means of frame analysis, resulting in a description of a phenomenon of how media compete for a higher share of the press market through presentation of migration crisis. The research is based on articles on the topic of refugee crisis published in two Czech dailies, Mladá Fronta Dnes and Hospodářské noviny. Applying the concept of frame analysis, the author attempts to compare how and how frequently the two dailies covered the topic in 2015, provides an outline and historical background of the period, and describes the methods employed in the research, in particular the above-mentioned frame analysis.
