Optimization of DNA isolation method for molecular sexing of birds
DILLINGEROVÁ, Hana
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to work up literary research on various methods suitable for bird sex determination. Furthermore, the experimental section of this work to determine the best suitable bird sex DNA isolation method and verifies the applicability of the isolated DNA for bird sex determination by PCR. The samples for DNA isolation were extracted from collected feathers and buccal swabs of animals kept on the university farm located in České Budějovice and of private animal keepers within the period of year 2015 and 2016.
Influence of season of nesting on the sex ratio of chicks of parrots genus \kur{Neophema}
PAPAČ, Martin
This bachelor thesis represents complete summary of most of avian sex ratio studies. A very important moment was discovering of PCR analysis in 90's. This method enables to determine sex at molecular level. Older works which lacked PCR could not determine sex reliably and therefore their results can be misleading. PCR can determine sex ratio at primary, secondary and tertiary level. Sex ratio manipulation in birds is probable evolutionary mechanism and there are several hypothesis regarding to that. Many experimental studies have shown possible ultimate and proximate causes which are responsible for sex ratio manipulation. However, low data sample was one of the causes why they have been considered to be doubtful. I have summarized several most important points of this field within my literal review. The main goal of this study is to confirm or disprove some of the hypothesis in my breeding of Scarlet-chested Parrots (Neophema splendida). The research took three years and despite considerable domestication the sex ratio manipulation was proved in this species. Results show that the main factor affecting sex ratio was photoperiod during the breeding season and order of nesting.
Handling with injured birds in rescue centres
HROMÁDKO, David
Birds are the most frequent patients in rescue stations. Vehicular traffic, glass - fronted areas, power lines and also illegal hunting they all endanger birds in modern countryside. Thanks to rescue stations lots of birds injured in this way or ill ones are cured up and returned back to the wild. Thus rescue stations have a very important role in nature reservation as well as in ecological education. Presented work evaluates extent, means and success rate of handling and treatment of injured birds in rescue stations. The data concerning handling, treatment and aftereffects of the accidents of some injured and handicapped birds were found out in the following rescue stations: Záchranná stanice Třeboň při Českém nadačním fondu pro vydru (Rescue Station Třeboň under Czech Charitable Fund for the Otter), Stanice ochrany fauny Pavlov, o.p.s (Station for Fauna Protection in Pavlov, Social Enterpreneurship), Záchranná stanice pro zraněné živočichy na Huslíku u Poděbrad (Rescue Station for Injured Animals in Huslík near Podebrady) and Záchranná stanice pro živočichy ČSOP Vlašim (Rescue Station for Animals of the Czech Federation of Nature Protectors Vlašim). The numerical trend of the most common types of injuries was also carried out and in this case records of the rescue stations from 2008 2014 were used as the base. Each of the rescue stations has its own ways of treatment and handling the injured birds which sometimes differ from the ones in other stations. Some stations do not have any experience with some kinds of injuiries. The worst therapy is to cure poisoned birds and those burnt by electric current and poisoning. The most common cause of the receipt of birds in the mentoined stations was the hospital admission of non- independent young animals.
Innovative methods of airport biological control
Bulíček, Pavel ; Motyková, Veronika (referee) ; Kujal, Tomáš (advisor)
The main content of this master’s thesis is identification of biological threats and analysis of present means of aerodrome biological control, description of their effectiveness and possibilities of usage. Furthermore the way of bird strikes recordkeeping and innovative means, devices and procedures of aerodrome biological control considering the required safety level are mentioned.

Importance of alpine snowbeds for beetles and birds in arid mountains
AMBROŽOVÁ, Lucie
Several alpine snowbeds in Altai tundra were studied. Community structure and activity of ground-dwelling arthropods along the moisture gradient in snowbed habitat were examined. Also bird's foraging behavior in different habitats around the snowbed was tested in relation to altered arthropod abundance.
Citizen Science in Ornithology

The effect of coloration of predator on reaction of birds at the feeder.
BURŠÍKOVÁ, Markéta
I investigate the effect of coloration of predator on the willingness of birds to undergo a predation risk at the winter feeder. I presented five colour modification of a sparowhawk and a control pigeon. The experimental species of birds presented at the feeder include great, blue, marsch and willow tits and nuthatch. My results suggest that birds are able to distinguish among the models but only in some extent. The behaviour of particular bird species differed significantly and was influenced by conditions like temperature and presence of the snow cover.
How the pattern of forest edges affects biodiversity in agricultural landscape: influence on distribution and abundance on different groups of animals.
BARTŮŠKOVÁ, Iveta
Distribution and abundances of small mammals, birds and butterflies were studied on the forest edges with adjacent farmland. We tried to investigate influence of vegetation characteristic on these groups of animals. Another aim was to find corelation between taxas.
