Breastfeeding support in the Czech health care system
Pavlová, Veronika ; Hrešanová, Ema (advisor) ; Kubečková, Olga (referee)
Abstact The diploma thesis is focused on forms and dimensions of breast-feeding support regarding different levels of women and child care in the health care system of the Czech Republic from the perspective of a woman, a mother, who is the health care recipient in the context of the legal framework of Czech legislation and relevant international documents. The findings are based on empirical research results gained from ten semi-structured in-depth interviews. Ten individual research participants gave birth in the same medical institution with the title Baby Friendly Hospital during the last three years, which is the unifying element of the participants. The perspective of a woman, based on a thematic analysis of interviews , shows a lot of perceived dimensions of the provided health care. This work identifies the most obvious women themes: their perception of breastfeeding in pregnancy, importance of breastfeeding for woman, the mother's contact with the baby after the childbirth, medical staff attitude and quality of provided care, aspects of pediatric care and support of breast-feeding out of the health care system. These themes are part of an extensive, historically based conception of health care provided in the Czech Republic, which includes a model of the relationship between a physician (medical...
Czech Healthcare Policy after 2010 in the Context of Heger's Reform
Řezníčková, Lucie ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Tušková, Eva (referee)
The diploma thesis "Czech Healthcare Policy after 2010 in the Context of Heger's Reform", deals with the significant institutional change that was implemented in Czech healthcare law during the right-wing government, which claimed its reforms were necessary in order to balance the budget. The aim of this work is to analyze the development of Czech healthcare policy in the period 2010-2013 with respect to the case of Heger's reform. This thesis uses different methods of analyzing the political process, for example methods of institutional analysis, critical discourse analysis, and other methods. The main theoretical basis of this work consists of a social critique of the neoliberal approach to Czech health care policy, and of a study of healthcare systems, their functions and goals, and a study of health policy and its changes. Attention is paid especially to the context of human rights related to health and the international discourse. This thesis identifies the arguments of neoliberal ideology in the policy-making of Czech healthcare policy makers in the process of justifying reforms. It evaluates the legitimacy of reform changes that don't accept the opinion of the public and don't respond to the international discourse, and investigates how the reform introduces new legal terminology which...
Nurses Satisfaction with the Current Situation in the Czech Healthcare System
Sovová, Jana ; Prošková, Eva (advisor) ; Pírková, Vendula (referee)
The aim of this work is to determine if nurses are satisfied with the healthcare system in the Czech Republic, how they evaluate the healthcare quality, selected reform measures and how their evaluation differs from the general public's evaluation. Research data were collected through quantitative research methods, specifically through online and paper questionnaires. The obtained data were compared with the data from the survey concerning the same topic among the Czech citizens. This survey among the public is part of the research project called Our Society carried out annually by the Public Opinion Research Center. We found that the nurses evaluated the healthcare system very critically. In comparison with the public opinion, their evaluation of the healthcare quality is more negative and they disapprove of the majority of the reform measures. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Thanks, we are leaving" Campaign in 2010-2011. Case study.
Šimandlová, Nikola ; Mašková, Pavla (advisor) ; Tušková, Eva (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the Czech doctor's campaign "Thanks, we are leaving" on the background of the health care system in the Czech Republic. The campaign started in 2010 by the Czech doctors trying to focus on the working conditions, salary conditions, educational system and some failures of the health care system with the aim to improve it. The campaign resulted in February 2011 in a compromise between doctors and Ministry of Health. This thesis focuses especially on media and on the interest group LOK (Medical union trade club) which set the agenda. The perception of the campaign is ambiguous both for the public and for the doctors themselves. The individual milestones of campaign are explained by the theory of punctuated equilibrium from the authors Bryan D. Jones and Frank R. Baumgartner. Using many helpful methods such as content analysis of media messages, semi- structured interviews with particular actors, analysis of secondary sources, stakeholder analysis or analysis of selected events in health policy I explained the core events and actors who participated in this campaign. The theoretical concepts used in this thesis are: public policy in its multidisciplinary meaning, health policy and health care system, punctuated equilibrium theory, theories concerned with interest groups...

Certified Nursing Assistants A "Bottom-Up" Etnography of a Health Care Institution
Votřel, Jan ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (advisor) ; Stöckelová, Tereza (referee)
This thesis is based on a 10-month field work conducted in a retirement home. The empirical part is rooted in the fact that the author of this work actually became a part of the institution for a several months as its employee at the position of a certified nursing assistant. This perspective naturally enabled him to focus on a description of daily routines, taking place within the mentioned institution, from a perspective of a certified nursing assistant as well as on his interactions with the clients, which occur during these daily routines. Paying attention to the mutual interactions of both enables us to perceive how the dominant discourse in public health care works. It is particularly revealed through disciplinary techniques. The analysis of the disciplinary techniques follows the theory of power by Michel Foucault, which seems to prove that not only the clients but also the certified nursing assistants are being disciplined during the everyday practices of the given institution. Their position is at the lowest level of the hierarchy of health care system and this - in a way - dooms them to being disciplined since they are a part of the same routines as are the clients. Moreover, the analysis of the mutual power relationships between the certified nursing assistants and the clients shows that...
Health Systems in Transition: Priorities, Policies and Health Outcomes
Borisova, Liubov ; Tulejová, Henrieta (advisor) ; Bryndová, Lucie (referee) ; Nivorozhkin, Eugene (referee)
The dissertation deals with the links between health care systems and health outcomes in the so-called 'transition' countries. The main questions to be addressed are: ''Do health care systems and their transitions influence health outcomes in the transition area and i f they do - how?" The combination o f qualitative techniques and econometric methods allowed for a creation o f the structural classifications o f the health care systems in transition and produced important findings. Firstly, health care transitions, and especially their structural component, are found to be significant in determining health status in the CEE and CIS countries. Secondly, however, the socio-economic determinants o f health were established to also play a major role in determining health inequalities in the transition area. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
