Bitcoin: Media Portrayal of a Cryptocurrency

The main aim of this diploma thesis is to find out how the Czech printed media face relatively new and complex phenomenon that emerged in the monetary sphere - virtual currency bitcoin. Through the means of quantitative content analysis, all printed titles showing relevant references to bitcoin between the years 2009 and 2016 were examined. The thesis is divided into several chapters. The theoretical part contains different media concepts dealing with the agenda-setting, the creation of a media portrayal and the construction of social reality through mass media. From a theoretical point of view, the cryptocurrency bitcoin was also subject for detailed analysis. The following methodological part of the thesis introduces the main objective of research, research questions and research design. The analytical part provides a clear overview of the results obtained, then interpreted and compared with predetermined hypothesis. The overview of collected findings about the media image of the virtual currency bitcoin in the Czech press are summarized in the conclusion. The thesis is the first paper to deal with the issues of the virtual currency bitcoin from the point of view of media discourse in the Czech Republic, and its ambition was to gather completely new information on this topic.
PR goes on air: The media portrayal of Public Relations on Czech and British television scene

This paper aims to contribute to knowledge of stereotypization mechanisms, bringing in the case of PR consultants. Using lenses of the key cultural form - film and television series - the project analyses a way of representing PR profession, as depicted on TV screen both in Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, during 2000-2017 time period. Theoretical frame is drawing on key ideas on stereotype, narrowed by film usage, as seen in the work of Walter Lippmann and others. Main hypothesis is based on assumption that negative media portrayal might interfere with professional reputation. Analytical part employs qualitative, thematical analysis that focuses on interpretation of personal features, behavioral characteristics and depiction of reocurring key themes. The final outcome then presents a professional portrayal of Public Relations on Czech and British television scene, builded up on prominent steretypes, accompanied by relevant quotes to illustrate the point. Key findings show undestanding communication as means of persuasion, leading to egoism, a lack of ethical values and dominant attitude in relation to clients and journalists. Comparation of media portrayal of Islam after the attack on the magazine Charlie Hebdo in the Czech public service and private broadcastings

The bachelor thesis Comparison of the media portrayal of Islam after the attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Czech public service and private broadcasters focuses on reportages televised by two Czech broadcastings, public service ( T 1) and private broadcastings (TV Nova). The purpose of this thesis is to apply the qualitative content analysis on these reportages in order to find out what is their message, and consequently the depiction of the media portrayal of Islam after the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The first part of the thesis states information about Islam, Charlie Hebdo magazine and facts related to this issue, followed by theoretical definition of media, their content and research. Furthermore, each broadcasting and also the topics of selected reportages are characterized. In the next part of the thesis the results of qualitative analysis are presented in detail and compared with mentioned broadcastings. The trial with protectorate government and its presentation in the contemporary newspaper

The bachelor's work "The Trial with Protectorate Government and its Media Portrayal in Contemporary Press" is focused on judicial process with former protectorate government and its medial presentation. The task was to analyze articles of the periodical press Lidová demokracie, Svobodné slovo, Rudé právo and Čas in the key examined period of months from April 1946 until August 1946. The question of post-war retributions is related to this topic. Post-war period after May 1945 was characterized by the tendency of the state to re-establish political and economy stability and the effort to punish war betrayers and collaborators. The extraordinariness of the trial was proved in many details as application of specific legal framework, nonstandard form of the charge, presence of nonprofessional judges in senates of the extraordinary courts etc. Individual journals informed about the trial and accused ministers with various accent. Considerable media attention was paid especially to the declaration of adjudgement and tendencies to its revision.
The Media Portrayl of Czech attendance at International Exhibition in Montreal 1967 in contemporary press

Master diploma thesis "The Media Portrayal of Czechoslovak attendance at International Exhibition in Montreal 1967 in contemporary press" intends to show media picture of Czechoslovak attendance at Expo 1967, through the use of analysis of selected daily press and social and cultural journals. It sets Czechoslovak attendance into political, cultural, ideological and media context and outline history and development of International Exhibition. Thesis also introduces Montreal exhibition and present information about attendance of Czechoslovakia. On this foundations arise the second part of the thesis, which propounds the media picture of this event in selected contemporary press and using analysis of self-mindedness that refers to rate of statement of facts and objectivity. Selected press and journals were monitored for a period of eight months and by researching there was considered form o reporting, ideological affection and general focus of selected press about this event. Important considered elements were also influence of freeing atmosphere of second half of sixties and fact, that exhibition took place in capitalistic state. Outcome of all these circumstances is media picture of this event, which is shown in conclusion of thesis.
