Hejbal, Dominik ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee)
The paper focuses on the image of Prague First League (Gabrinus) football clubs in Czech national dailies. The season of 2011/12 is surveyed, during which there were five Prague clubs in the First League, which was an unusually high count. Traditional contenders such as AC Sparta Praha and SK Slavia Praha were included, as well as Bohemians 1905 and the newcomers FK Dukla Praha and FK Viktoria Zizkov, both of which advanced from the Second Football League. The followed dailies are Sport (the only Czech sports daily), Hospodarske noviny, Lidove noviny, Mlada fronta DNES and Pravo, four general dailies with sports supplement. By using both quantitative and qualitative methods, the paper examines which events in Prague football clubs were assigned most space. Furthermore, the way the events are addressed is examined, as well as the clubs mostly reported by individual writers - whether there is dependence between number of fans and the space assigned to particular clubs. The following chapters seek the answer to the question if Czech dailies in the effort to aim at increasing readers' interest prefer clubs with more fans. We also study whether positive or negative events are more followed, or if success or failure is emphasized.
