Anotation Pohotovostní prapory SNB v nasazení proti banderovcům The thesis focuses on the creation and campaign of special forces of Sbor národní bezpečnosti against Ukrainina Insurgent Army which invaded the territory of Czechoslovakia in the period from May to October 1947 and further to April 1948. The offers a compact view on the largest military operation of Czechoslovakia in scale since the Second World War, including armaments, equipment and tactic. In addition, the political aspect of the campaign and the political involvement of the SNB commanders with respect to the events of February 1948 are examined. Furthermore, the creation and activities of Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists and Ukrainian Insurgent Army are covered. The thesis encompasses materials from Archive of the Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic at Praha Na Karlově and Archive of the Security Corpses.

Doctoral Dissertation PhDr. Kathleen Brenda Geaney English-Speaking Communists, Communist Sympathizers and Fellow- Travellers and Czechoslovakia in the Early Cold War (Anglicky mluvící komunisté, komunističtí sympatizanti a podporovatelé a Československo v počátcích studené války) Abstract The dissertation is a study of some of those people with Communist Party affiliations and fellow-travellers, who journeyed behind the Iron Curtain to see for themselves what life was like in the new people's democracy. The research focuses on Czechoslovakia as a tourist destination for a surprising number of anglophones in the early years of the Cold War. It argues that Soviet experience served as a best practices model for officialdom in Prague. This was modified where necessary to take into account the lessons learnt, national particulars, and the new geopolitical context. In both situations, foreigners were evaluated in terms of importance and potential as far as the communist cause was concerned. Abstract The dissertation thesis discusses public activities, thoughts and the political life of JUDr. Gustáv Husák, CSc. (1913-1991), who was involved in the Czech-Slovak public space for sixty years with a significant footprint even today. The text is based on a thorough research and is chronologically structured, intertwined with thematic areas, however an analytical approach prevails. The first chapter focuses on Husák's youth, the factors that led him to the communist movement, and his early activism. This is followed by a portrayal of the Husák's activities during the Second World War, his role in the resistance, participation in a propaganda trip to the Nazi conquered Ukraine, and his vision of Slovakia as a republic of the Soviet Union. His later involvement in the Slovak National Uprising provided the legitimacy of his later political career in the post-war era, when he successfully led the struggle for the communist monopoly of political power in Czechoslovakia and attempts to present the Communist Party of Slovakia as a national party. Loss of Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia at the End of World War 2 David Hubený Czechoslovakia came by Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia completely unexpectedly after World War 1. The Republic tried with dedication to help the Slavonic population of the region, hardly aware of their nationality, get rid of poverty and ignorance. Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia, however, did not fit into the concept of Czechoslovak statehood. Some Czechoslovak politicians (e.g. Karel Kramář) only perceived the mission of the Republic at Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia as the role of a "faithful trustee" that should hand Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia over to Russia when the right time comes. On the other hand, Czechoslovak Communists called the region Trans-Carpathian Ukraine as early as 1920s and alleged that the local Slavonic population are Ukrainians. The Republic did not want to get involved in the ethnic development. At the time of the "Second Republic", power in Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia was seized by Ukrainian Nationalists, who colluded with Nazis. The former saw Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia as kind of Ukrainian Piemont, which would unite all Ukrainians in one state, while the latter found it a perfect tool to destabilize the USSR by opening up the hot Ukrainian issue. (česky) Tématem mojí práce je přiblížení sporných otázek týkajících se národního vymezení srbské komunity v Dalmácii mezi lety 1878 až 1905. Jedná se o dílčí posouzení vztahu pra-voslavné církve a srbského národního hnutí v Dalmácii. Dále se práce zaměřuje na zformová-ní komunity římskokatolických Srbů a jejich vnitřní profilací. Zkoumán je rovněž srbský pří- stup k jejich konfliktu s Chorvaty v rámci Dalmácie. Práce má též přiblížit historiografické spory vedené na toto téma mezi chorvatskými a srbskými historiky. V práci se přibližuji okolnosti zformování srbského národního hnutí a vzniku samostatné politické srbské strany. Ve zvoleném období se věnuji v rámci strany prezentovanému přístupu k pravoslaví a přístupu vedení pravoslavné církve k vymezení srbské národní identity. Dále se zabývám římskokatolickými Srby a spornými otázkami s nimi spojenými. Zaměřil jsem se také na postoj srbské reprezentace k chorvatskému národnímu hnutí a vypo- řádání se s jeho nároky v rámci vlastního národního projektu. Zjistil jsem, že propojení mezi liberálním srbským národním hnutím a místním vedením pravoslavné církve bylo těsnější, než je běžně uváděno v odborné literatuře. V případě Srbů katolíků se mi podařilo přiblížit konflikt mezi jejich vírou a národní identitou, ale i jejich roli v místním...

The Life and Times of Jozef Lenart

Resume The dissertation thesis The Life and Times of Jozef Lenart deals with life and political influence of a Communist politician Jozef Lenart. The work begins with Lenart's childhood in the Slovak countryside and his maturing in the service of Bata concern where Lenart was trained. From depiction of Lenart participation in Slovak uprising author goes to the main topic of the thesis. It is almost 45 years political activity of Lenart in various party's and state functions. During such a long career Jozef Lenart became among others, the prime minister of the Czechoslovakian government and a member of the leading management of the Communist party. Author in direct contradiction to the concept of totalitarianism and widely shared ideas about a party leadership as a monolithic opinion power centres approached political influence of Jozef Lenart as a description of mutual interactions within the dictatorial regime. Author also defined Lenart's political attitudes and affiliation with interest and opinion groups and assessed how successfully Lenart managed to assert his views.

National Security Corps 1945-1948

The thesis unravels the problem of creation of Sbor národní bezpečnosti in Czechoslovakia in both of its sections, Public Security and State's Inner Security. The thesis observes the period of 1945- 1948. The intention of the thesis is to form a compact view on a development of the most important office of inner security whose the most important parts had fallen under the control of Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and had become the basic pillar of communist rule until 1989. The thesis also unravels the organisation, counts, decrees, equipment and function of SNB and its relation to the law system including illegal actions commited by members of SNB. The thesis relays on materials located in Security Units Archive Praha Na Struze and Siwiecova Ulice, its extention in Brno Kanice, Archive of the Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic and a publication of J. Trade relationships between Czechoslovakia and Egypt in the 50's and 60's years of 20th century

(in English): Topic of this work is to describe the czechoslovakian-egyptian trade relationships in 50's and 60's years of the 20th centruy with a focus on the supplies of weapons into Egypt and the United Arab Republic. In the work will be also outlined a development of the Middle East in a given period (like a context for the topic i will look on a rise of State Israel, arab-israel's wars, influence of the superpowers a inner political developmnet of Egypt and the United Arab Republic). The work will come from the secondary literature, published sources, mainly from the funds of the Political bureau, Bureau of the Central committee of the KSČ, i was also thinking about use of the fund from the office of the 1st secretary Antonín Novotný, but in this fund are the same documents like in the funds of Political bureau, Bureau of Central committee and many documents are not in this fund (National archive Prague) and than from the fund of the Archive of the foreign department. The objective of this fork is to find out a development of the trade relationships between the both states in a given period, if were more important political of economical aspects of the relationships and also if the Czechoslovakia was a only distributor of the weapons which were constructed and manufactured in the Soviet union...
