Comparison of criminal behaviour development in the CR with trends in rich countries
Pokorný, Petr ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Polák, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis explores crime development in rich countries and compares it with crime development in the Czech Republic. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to statistically verify thoughts discussed in The Economist magazine about the downward trend in crime development in rich countries. In the first part of the thesis, terms related to crime are defined. Subsequently, rich countries are deter- mined. In the second part, the crime development in the rich countries is explored through a fixed effect model estimation of panel data. In the third part, crime de- velopment in the Czech Republic is analyzed by using a simple regression model and an autoregressive model. In the final part of the bachelor thesis, an econometric model analyzes factors that generally affect crime, especially wealth of countries. The arguments about the downward trend in crime development in rich countries are supported by statistical examination. 1
Horizons of Human Understanding and Transcendence: Gadamer in Dialogue with Modern Orthodox Hermeneutics
Širka, Zdenko ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Kattan, Assaad Elias (referee) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
This thesis brings into conversation Western and Orthodox hermeneutical schools, one represented by Hans-Georg Gadamer and his followers; the other school is less focussed around one person, and yet displays common distinct features. The main question of the thesis is how we can mediate not only the content of understanding of who we are in relation to each other, to the world in which we live and to God, but also comprehend the process of understanding across various historical periods. While analysing Gadamerian hermeneutics, the first part shows its strength in investigating transcendence as it appears horizontally in the historical character of our being in language. At the same time, the weakness of Gadamer's hermeneutics is pointed out, namely that it does not investigate what is transcendent sufficiently in relation to the divine. In the second part, an analysis of modern Orthodox hermeneutics is offered. Attention is paid first to the sources having a formative impact on Orthodox hermeneutics and then to the problem of negative identity formation as a key to what Orthodox hermeneutics should be. The strength of Orthodox hermeneutics is identified in terms of a belonging to community and seeing transcendence as something that mainly comes to this relationship from outside, as the Holy Spirit...
The Development of the Semantic Field of the Term "ΑΓΙΟΣ" in the New Testament and Writings of Apostolic Fathers
Havelková, Eliška ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Prostredník, Ondrej (referee) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
The present thesis maps the development of the semantic field of the Greek term "ἅγιος". It is a lexical-theological analysis, which starts linguistically from single lexemes and, in search of the meanings, pays attention also to their con- texts resulting in the theological summaries. The starting point is the Old Testa- ment concept of holiness, summarized in Leviticus 10,10, which also delineates the semantic field. In the ten chapters of this thesis, ten of the most representat- ive authors of the New Testament and Apostolic Fathers are explored as to their use of the holiness word-group. This thesis starts with the single occurrences of the terms in their original context and from here, the theology of holiness is drawn, reflected by the use of the words in every single of the authors. Every chapter is divided into two parts, the first describing holiness and the second one dealing with purity. The main questions asked to the text are: First, is the holiness understood as the transcendent quality of God, which, by being near to him, changes believers, or whether, on the other hand, it is a description of holy, i.e. ascetic life. Second, what is the relation of holiness and purity? Is pur- ity presupposition for meeting with the Holy? Third, is there a visible shift in understanding of holiness...
Psalm 118 in the New Testament
Veverková, Zuzana ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
Our work deals with the role of Psalm 118 in the New Testament, which is also the name of our work. In order to figure out the function of Psalm 118 in the New Testament we analyzed the Psalm itself and offered quotations and remarks of it. Our thesis is that authors of the New Testament have found a new meaning for Psalm 118. This meaning is Christological and along with that we hope that these authors do not take our cited quotations out of context too harshly. Consequently, we provided the reader with an analysis of three New Testament quotations of selected verses, namely the concept of context, exegesis and the use of the psalm 118. The first selected texts deal with confidence in God and the second ones with rejected corner stone. Lastly, we considered the exultations and blessings of the King. We are looking at interpretation of our Psalm and the use of the context of cited verses.
Children and Kingdom of God (history od interpretation Matt 18,1-5 and Matt 19,13-15)
Trojanová, Anna ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
Summary: This thesis is dealing with two concepts - Kingdom of God and children. It is focused on two texts from the Gospel according to Matthew, regarding their history of interpretation. My thesis aims to analysing Matthew's intention related to Jesus'concept of God's Kingdom in relation to children. In order to get deeper insight, my thesis takes works of other theologians in the course of history into the consideration
Climate and vegetation changes in Holocene of NE Africa and related cultural development leading to agriculture.
Kuncová, Kristýna ; Pokorná, Adéla (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
More than eight thousand years ago, in the area of the Near East, crucial change in the human food-strategy occurred due to changing environmental conditions: hunter-gatherers become shepherds and farmers. Reasons of this "revolution" are known, nevertheless the biological background of this transformation, i. e. cultivation and domestication of crops, are still relatively fragmental. This paper is dealing with human-environment interaction in the Early and Middle Holocene in the area of the southeastern Africa. That summarizes current knowledge about archeobotanical researches with special regard to the domestication of crops. Key words: holocene, NE Africa, plant cultivation, agriculture
Dynamics of small bodies in the Solar System: from dust particles to asteroid
Pokorný, Petr ; Vokrouhlický, David (advisor) ; Borovička, Jiří (referee) ; Wiegert, Paul (referee)
In this thesis, we study two different topics: collisional probability between two bodies and dynamics of the sporadic meteoroids in the Solar System. Determination of the collision probabilities in the Solar System is one of the important problems in mod- ern celestial mechanics. Here, we generalize classical theories of the collisions between two bodies by Öpik, Wetherill or Greenberg by including the Kozai-Lidov oscillations, a mechanism that significantly change orbital eccentricity and inclination in the Solar System. Sporadic meteors have been studied for many decades providing a wealthy re- source of data. Here, we build dynamical steady-state models for all known populations observed in the sporadic meteoroid complex based on the latest and most precise data provided by Canadian Meteor Orbit Radar (CMOR). Our models using the latest theo- ries for cometary populations in the Solar System accurately describe observed sporadic background population. Our results are in agreement with observations provided by space probes IRAS and LDEF.
Palynological synthesis for the Czech Republic
Abraham, Vojtěch ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Chytrý, Milan (referee) ; Sugita, Shinya (referee)
The aim is to gather pollen sequences and derive from them synthetic information on past species distribution and Holocene vegetation history. Lonicera nigra was selected as a model taxa. The phylogeographic hypothesis that its Alpine and Carpathian populations survived the LGM in separate refugia is supported only by the Late-Glacial record. This shrub migrated rapidly from southern to central Europe during the warm oscilations of the Late Glacial. The synthesis of vegetation history was produced by applying the REVEALS model, which can filter out following factors influencing the relationship between pollen and vegetation: pollen taphonomy, pollen productivity and pollen dispersal. It was necessary to calculate and test those parameters, so the goals were partly methodical. Pollen productivity estimates are calculated within the Relevant Source Area of Pollen, which is influenced by vegetation structure. Subsequent validation of those values in the area of the REVEALS model 10000 km2 and selection of additional values for lacking taxa created the best set of parameters for the study area. The source fossil dataset for purposes of this synthesis is the newly developed Czech Quaternary Pollen database (PALYCZ). Non-direct multivariate analysis of pollen percentages including all taxa revealed a similarity...
The Project of Religionistic Reinterpretation of Christian Origins in Dialogue with the New Testament Studies
Dostál, Martin ; Hošek, Pavel (advisor) ; Papoušek, Dalibor (referee) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
The thesis deals with "The Christian Origins Project" proposed by Burton L. Mack in 1995 and supported by other scientists. The Project strongly criticises the traditional picture of Christian origins in the New Testament studies and calls upon rewriting Christian origins with the help of "a new hermeneutic". At the same time it offers a fresh and authentic view on the social history of the early Christianity based on a detailed study of the early Christian documents including non-canonical writings and brings an alternative picture of Christian origins that includes the Cynic hypothesis and also analysis of the Christian myth. The Project integrates the perspectives of religious studies and sociology and formulates a social theory of religion and myth. The thesis which incorporates a critique of the project and points to its context aims to answer the question whether the Christian Origins Project provides a space for a dialogue with the New Testament studies. It also wants to consider the relationship between religious studies and theology. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
