Evaluation of the development of the Ezgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region after its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List

This thesis is focused on the effects of inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The main goal was to obtain information about this issue on the specific example of the Czech part of the Ezgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region from the point of view of local stakeholders. Sub- goals are focused on heritage management in the given region, benefits and disadvantages associated with this inscription, motivation of local stakeholders to use it and identification of these stakeholders. In order to find out what effect this inscription had on local stakeholders from the public and private spheres, semi-structured interviews were used. The obtained data were evaluated using open coding and thematic analysis. The research itself can be divided into three phases. In the first phase, a list of stakeholders involved in the process of creation, protection and interpretation of mining heritage was created. The second phase consisted of interviews with local stakeholders, namely representatives of municipalities and entrepreneurs. In the last stage, these interviews were evaluated and summarized.
Teachers' attitudes towards the use of the name Czechia

The bachelor's thesis deals with the attitudes of teachers at primary and secondary schools, whether they know the difference between a geographical and a political name. The main goal of the work is to find out if teachers use the geographical names Czechia / Czechia in teaching, or for what reasons they prefer the political name, and if these reasons are relevant. The work also deals with the historical context of names over the last hundred years with an insight into the beginnings of the use of geographical names. The work primarily examines current events in the media and on the political scene. The research was conducted with the help of a questionnaire survey, to which 124 respondents responded. It was found that the majority of geography teachers use geographical names in their teaching, while the results were more balanced for teachers of other qualifications. Furthermore, it was found that respondents rejecting short names do not have any relevant reasons for not using them, but limit themselves to the dichotomy of subjective feelings, whether they like the name or not.
Evaluation of the results of the online district Geographic Olympiad 2020/21

The thesis deals with the analysis of tests of category D (secondary schools) of the district round of the 23rd year of the Geography Olympiad. In the theoretical part the concept of gifted children. At the same time, different approaches to their definition are discussed. In the following chapters, the Geography Olympiad subject competition, its system and structure are introduced. The criteria and selection processes that enable selected competitors to represent the Czechia at international geography competitions are presented. This is followed by an analysis of the course of the competition during the period of the covid-19 pandemic and a description of the measures taken to ensure the security and continuity of the competition. A deeper attention is paid to the evaluation of the results of the district round of the 23rd year of the Geography Olympiad and the success of the competitors in the individual parts of the competition. Specifically, the parts of work with an atlas, the written test of geographical knowledge and the practical part are evaluated. The topic of labor camps at uranium mines in the teaching of geography (using Jáchymov and Příbram as an example)

This bachelor thesis focuses on geography teaching methods at elementary and high schools in Jáchymov and Příbram regions. Specifically, the research deals with a topic of uranium labor camps, between 1950s and 1960s. The first part of the thesis analyze how geography is being taught at elementary and high schools, based on the curriculum framework and textbook research. Next, there is a chapter with a focus on the labor camps from the point of view of geography. The thesis also contains analysis of the researched locations, especially their mining history. The next section of the bachelor thesis discusses the socio-historical context in the 1950s and 1960s, uranium as the key raw material of the Cold War, labor camps and their characteristics and the inmates' daily routine. The practical part of the thesis is represented by questionnaire research conducted at the elementary and high schools and its results. The final chapter contains worksheets designed for high school students which could be used during outdoor education sessions. Landscape for Breeding Horses as a New UNESCO Heritage

The bachelor's thesis deals with the evaluation of the impact of the inscription of the Landscape for the Breeding and Training of Ceremonial Carriage Horses in Kladruby nad Labem on the World Heritage List from the point of view of actors in the public, private and non-profit spheres. This inscription took place in July 2019 and it is now possible to study its further development. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the presentation of the UNESCO organization and the evaluation of the possible effects of the inscription of the monument on the World Heritage List according to the literature. It is also focused on the analysis of the Landscape for the Breeding and Training of Ceremonial Carriage Horses in Kladruby nad Labem. The second part presents the research, which was focused on evaluating the impact of the inscription on the World Heritage List using semi-structured interviews with the individual actors mentioned above. One of the main findings is, for example, that respondents consider the increased level of professional care of the estate to be the greatest benefit. On the contrary, disruption of the daily life of local residents can be considered as a negative impact. Labor camps in the Jáchymov region in interdisciplinary history - geography relations

This bachelor's thesis deals with student's ability to work with selected types of historical and modern sources to navigate them in chosen space. The first part of the thesis introduces the oral history method, which is demonstrated here through the testimony of eyewitnesses. Furthermore, the characteristics of distance education in the context of the recent covid-19 pandemic are elaborated. In the second part of the thesis, a worksheet is presented, which was supplemented with one additional source in the research part, based on the evaluation from the pilot investigation, but the character of the tasks was maintained. The thesis concludes with a summary of the results obtained in the research of this thesis and also presents the limitations of the research form used. Motivation of pupils to study geography on the example of the Geographical Grammar School

This bachelor's thesis is devoted to the motivation of pupils to study geography. The goal of the thesis is to evaluate the motivation of students in geography at secondary school and to find out which factors have the greatest influence on their motivation. These variables are evaluated on the example of the Geographical Grammar School in the form of Focus group interviews with the pupils of the school. The bachelor's thesis is supplemented by information from the school management, obtained using a semi-standardized interview. The result of the analysis is that motivation is necessary in the teaching process in geography and it is important that there should be used elements of support for both external and internal motivation in the lessons.
The dissonant heritage of Czechia and its interpretation of the example of unfree labor forces in the second half of the 20th century

This diploma thesis deals with the dissonant heritage concept in Czechia using the example of unfree labor forces in the second half of the 20th century. It encompasses prisoners of communist labor camps at the end of the 1940s, the Czechoslovakians transported to gulags in the Soviet Union, the members of the auxiliary technical battalions, or forced labor prisoners in prisons. The thesis aims to understand and explain how the dissonant heritage of unfree labor is taken care of in Czechia, emphasizing its interpretation and management. The first part of the research focuses on identifying specific forms of dissonant heritage, its conservation, a form of interpretation, and the creation of a classification. The second part of the research identifies, using earlier analysis, the actors who manage the dissonant heritage, tangible or otherwise. Investigation of the actor's approach towards the dissonant heritage utilized the qualitative method of guided semi-structured interviews, including 10 respondents total. The last part of the research examines visitors' motivations and attitudes toward the legacy of the dissonant heritage of unfree labor, again using semi-structured interviews, complete with 30 respondents. The international project "Climate Detectives" and the evaluation of it's potential in the Czech educational system

The Climate Detectives is an international educational project established and maintained by the European Space Agency. It focuses on an enviromental and climate issues, which makes it a perfect tool for usage in natural science subjects, especially geography. The project reached Czech Republic not long ago, which sparked an idea to investigate it's potential through this thesis. The goal is to analyze the previous projects, that have already taken place and evaluate it's use in the czech educational system. To fulfill this goal, this thesis uses three research methods, first being a content analysis. Through this method, it is possible to aproach the subject from various angles and find the topics that could inspire possible future teams from Czech Republic. The second method is a written questionnaire distributed to the czech teachers of appropriate age groups of students. This will provide an insight in the opinion and stance of the teachers towards the project and could possibly reveal any limitations. Last method is an interview, conducted in written form with foreign teachers, that already have some experience with the Climate Detectives project. Usage of interdisciplinary relations of geography and historiography in teaching of the local region (using Jáchymov as an example)

Bakalářská práce se věnuje mezipředmětovým vztahům mezi zeměpisem a dějepisem ve výuce místního regionu na 2. stupni základních škol a na gymnáziích. Cílem práce je analýza výuky místního regionu a využívání mezipředmětových vazeb vyučujícími na školách v zájmovém regionu Jáchymovska. Dílčím cílem je dále vytvořit materiál, který by mohl být využit v rámci výuky místního regionu pro učitele na Jáchymovsku. Výsledkem analýzy je, že většina učitelů na Jáchymovsku místní region učí, ale vyčleňují mu méně času, než je celorepublikový průměr. Někteří vyučující mezipředmětové vazby využívají, ale spolupráci kolegů učitelů by bylo rozhodně potřeba dále rozvíjet. Většina dotazovaných učitelů se v hodinách též zabývá dějinami regionu. Nově vzniklý pracovní list by měl být využitelný pro učitele na Jáchymovsku i v celém Česku.
