Machiavelli's double solutions of resolving Italian crisis. The Prince and Discourses
Liška, Jan ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Kučera, Jan (referee) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
At the end of 15th and the beginning of 16th century, Italy found itself in a deep political crisis. Although Italy was the most developed part of Europe at that time both culturally and economically, large parts of the peninsula were under direct influence of foreign powers. As a great Florentine and Italian patriot Machiavelli was greatly saddened by development and reflected this situation in his writing. Two greatest pieces of his work The Prince and Discourses on Livy each offer a different solution to this crisis. In The Prince Machiavelli tries to find a way back to Italy's lost freedom and greatness through one extraordinary man - the prince, while in Discourses he concludes that only republican institution and just laws can be the solution. This paper aims to introduce both of these solutions presented by Machiavelli and by comparing them within the correct historical-political context ultimately decide which one of them would Machiavelli himself favour.
The Integration of Displaced Persons into the Soviet Occupation Zone
Ordeltová, Susan Michelle ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kučera, Jaroslav (referee)
This Bachelor thesis deals with the integration of displaced persons of German nationality from post-war Poland and Czechoslovakia who were forced by post-war conditions to resettle into the Soviet occupation zone of Germany, later GDR. Although it may seem that the integration had been successful, there were lots of partial problems that shouldn't be forgotten. The chaos at the beginning caused by mostly spontaneous and unorganized expulsions complicated the starting position of displaced Germans who saved just little possession and had limited possibilities to start a new life in a new home. The first steps to integration began with registration in camps. Then it was needed to give the displaced persons new home, some material belongings and a job. This was a years-lasting process. In 1948 the Soviet military administration of Germany recognized integration as to be done. It was the end of the official political integration; however the differences between old and new citizens stayed still visible.
Politicians in permanent campaigning: four leaders in Czech parliamentary elections in 2010
Svobodová, Pavlína ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Kučera, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the topic of political communication. Its objective is to describe the transformation of communication of political parties and politicians in today's western world. Society has changed and voters are less involved in traditional social relations and their behaviour is very difficult to predict. Moreover, differences in ideological background between parties has become less evident. Political parties thus have to invent new strategies to attract voters. The most important feature of political parties' communication is that it is indirect, mediated. Parties have to build very good relationships with journalists. It is of high importance to collaborate enough with the media. For this reason, other characteristics of political leardes are required than formerly. The today's politician has to evoke good image and appeal to citizens. To reach this goal, political and media consultans are paid and the use of opinion polls has become fundamental. These trends indicate that politics and governance has transformed into the so called permanent campaigning. We can see this tendency in the US and in the countries of western Europe. This thesis has tried to describe the situation in Czech Republic. It has focused on four leaders of political parties during the election campaign to the Chamber of...
Synthesis of monoquarternary pyridinium reactivators of acetylcholinesterase
Kučera, Jiří ; Doležal, Martin (referee) ; Opletalová, Veronika (advisor)
Kučera, J.: Synthesis of monoquaternary pyridinium reactivators of acetylcholinesterase. Diploma Thesis. Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control, Hradec Králové 2008 Summary Organophosphates are substances commonly used in agriculture as pesticides (metathione, malathione, Actellic, In-stop), in industry as hydraulic liquids, plasticizers, flame retardants. They are also used in human and veterinary medicine as drugs or for examination of neurological functions. Nerve agents are based on the same chemical structure. It is relatively easy and cheap to produce them, to use them for military purposes and misuse them by terrorist organizations. There are frequent intoxications of labourers in agriculture or in industry as well. Present treatment of organophosphate intoxication includes administration of acetylcholinesterase reactivators, atropine and diazepam. None of the currently available commercial reactivators is able to reactivate satisfactorily acetylcholinesterase inhibited by different types of organophosphates. The aim of the work was the synthesis and in vitro testing of new compounds with hypothesized reactivation efficiency.
RReconstruktion of Jewish Communities in the new Federal States of Germany - an Example of Free State of Saxony
Petrová, Eva ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kučera, Jaroslav (referee)
Diploma thesis " Reconstruction of Jewish communities in the new Federal States of Germany - an example of Free State of Saxony" is dealing with the situation of Jews and Jewish communities in the former GDR after 1990. The thesis shows on the example of Saxony the existence of Jewish communities under the GDR-regime, further how they managed to deal with the events of 1990 and faced new challenges and situations after the unification of Germany. The communities are gradually building their position in the society and they are trying to present themselves to the public through a number of activities, building synagogues and community centres and set up positive links with the non-Jewish population. The increased activities of the Jewish communities in the society are not perceived in a positive way only, the evidence of which is a brief chapter on rightist extremism in Saxony in the final part of the thesis. Due to the topical character of the theme the thesis brings also a few interviews with representatives of Jewish communities and Christian-Jewish communities and literature search of periodicals concerned with Jewish issues. The thesis presents an actual picture of Jewish community in Germany as it is perceived outside and inside the communities themselves and in such a way as it hasn't been presented...
Labour Immigration of Turks to Germany and the Developement of German Immigration and Integration Policy
Dumont, Anna ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Filipová, Lucie (referee)
My Bachelor's thesis, "Labour Immigration of Turks to Germany and the Development of German Immigration and Integration Policy" deals with Turkish guest workers' arrival and subsequent settlement in Germany and the conditions they have been living in. The first part of my thesis is devoted to the evolution of Turkish labour immigration and a discussion of its influence on and co-evolution with German immigration and integration policy. The second part is addressed to the acceptance shown by the majority of Germany society of contemporary Turkish immigrants' integration and uses as examples the development of two important public or human rights. The first of these rights is freedom of religion, which contains both freedom of religion at school, and the right to build mosques in German cities. The second is the right to political participation for Turkish residents who are either German citizens or who have permanent residency, but not citizenship. The thesis tries to answer the questions of how successful integration has been and whether or not Germany has found the right balance between democratic values and the cultural diversity brought by having a large Muslim minority. The thesis as well touches on the biggest problems of the second and third generations of Turkish immigrants which are a lack of...
