The influence of wind on treeline position - the question of summit syndrome
Kašpar, Jakub
Title: The influence of wind on treeline position - the question of summit syndrome Author: Jakub Kašpar Department: Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, Charles University Supervisor: Václav Treml, Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, Faculty of Science, Charles University Abstract: Growing season temperatures drive treeline position on a global scale. However, environmental factors including wind action may critically modify the position of treeline ecotone on a regional or a local scale. The intensity of wind action increases with shortening of treeline-summit distance. High intensity of wind action may cause the presence of a summit syndrome. This results into the lowering of treeline below its potential limit given by temperature conditions. Alpine treeline ecotones occurring in 11 mountain ranges including the Harz Mts., the High Sudetes and the Carpathians represented the model areas for my research. These mountains are located at the 50th parallel and reflect an increase in the gradient of continentality. Moreover, the distance of treeline from the summit is highly variable among these mountains. These mountains are moreover characterized by differences in mass elevation effect and in the summit syndrome intensity. Treeline position in Central Europe is...

Web application for recording lifetime goals
Kašpar, Jakub ; Hradil, Jiří (advisor) ; Ženíšek, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis highlights the importance of setting life goals and deals with the implementation of the recording tool. There are currently several solutions to the issue, which are very popular especially in the Western world. These solutions are outdated because they were created more than 8 years ago and since then there has been no major innovation. With the rapid development of today's technologies can be offered a much simpler and more user-friendly tool for recording life goals. The aim of this work is to create a minimal viable product that will enable a customer to record their life goals. To achieve the goal, it was first necessary to find and compare existing solutions to choose the appropriate benchmarks and to define the scope of implementation of our own life recording tool. In addition, it was necessary to select the appropriate tools and technologies, create wireframes to test the user interface and then incorporate knowledge into the application design. From the resulting design, a data structure design was created, followed by the development of the tool itself. The author's contribution consists in comparing and evaluating selected existing solutions that have identified some shortcomings. These were incorporated and better solutions are implemented into the author's own instrument for recording life goals.
Are Sports like Cycling and Cross Country Skiing Detrimental to the Jizera Mountains? Controversy of the Good versus the Good: The Protection of Nature versus the Recreation Use of the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area Illustrated by the Example of Cycling and Cross Country Skiing
Tišerová, Gabriela ; Rynda, Ivan (advisor) ; Kašpar, Jakub (referee)
The dissertation inquires to the contention of the good with the good - sports and recreational activities in the protected area. I have set three ambits of research questins: Who? What? How to deal? to get the solution of the reasearch task 'The Analysis of the Conflict of Interests between the Protection of Nature and Sports and Recreational activities (cycling and cross country skiing). I am trying to find main representatives in the concrete area and describe the conflicts among them. Next I have presented the problems of doing sport in the protected area. Firstly I am focused on the way of the negotiation about the use of the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area and secondly I am trying to find the existence of the common future goals in the area development. With the help of the actor analysis I have tried to answer the research questions. I have used the analysis as a pattern how to look at the problems and how to deal with the facts acquired with the help of semistructured interview. As a result I have found that the main problem in the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area is mainly the intensity of described activities. The ascertainment of the density of high- quality relationships confirms strong social resources. Within the participation a lot of relationships allowing the...
The change of circumstances and its impact upon the duration of obligations
Kašpar, Jakub ; Elischer, David (advisor) ; Dvořák, Jan (referee)
Change of circumstances and its effect on a duration of an obligation In particular cases, an unexpected supervening event may substantially affect original equilibrium of a contract, or make the performance for one of the parties much more burdensome, so that it would be greatly unjust to hold the parties to their obligations. In such situations, when the performance of one of the parties has become much more onerous, a conflict may rise between the classical principles of contractual freedom, sanctity of the contract, certainty of the law and pacta sunt servanda, on the one hand, and principle of contractual fairness, equity and good faith on the other. Pacta sunt servanda, principle accepted by most of developed legal systems, determines that obligations which are validly concluded, must be fulfilled, parties are bound by their agreement. In case of change of circumstances, this may lead to situations, when it would be unjust to hold the debtor to the obligation. This makes the topic of the thesis very controversial and polemic. The topic of this thesis is a change of circumstances and its impact on an existing obligation. The aim of the thesis is to focus and describe relevant legal doctrines, institutes, and possible solutions of the problem. Another purpose is to analyze different legislations and...
Effect of altitude on intra-annual growth of trees in the treeline ecotone
