Szabo, Jakub ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate possible ideological changes inside the IMF in the time period from 1989 to 2014. This goal is achieved by examining annual reports published by the IMF, with attention on the most important tools of the IMF. Issues discussed through the IMF's surveillance and conditionality are the main indicator of possible reforms and changes. Based on the existent literature and example of the reform of the World Bank four hypotheses are formulated. Those hypotheses are dedicated to monitoring changes in perceived importance of welfare state, small government, good governance and fiscal policy. Firstly, current literature is presented with definition of the main concepts used in this thesis. Secondly, important tools of the IMF are described. Thirdly, collected data is described and this thesis concludes with data evaluation. With application of the methods of descriptive statistics and content analysis this thesis concludes with statement, that important shift from emphasis on weak state to strong state occurred and good governance became important theme of IMF's interest. However importance of the theme fiscal policy persisted.

Experiencing the Body and Self-Concept in People with Acquired Physical Disability
Ištoková, Lucie ; Pařízek, Michal (advisor) ; Preclíková, Andrea (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Experiencing the body and self-concept in people with acquired physical disability" tries to reveal how people with acquired physical disability perceive their physical body and how changes in physical experience and self-concept are intertwined. The work draws primarily from literature dealing with the philosophy of the body, the health consequences of paralysis and self- concepts within the range of social psychology. The second source is six interviews conducted with people after spinal cord injury in which I ask the circumstances of paralysis and the physical and psychological experiencing of paralysis. Based on literature review and interviews it is not possible to say that the change of the body is the primary trigger for changes in self-perception, however, the paralyzed body gets extra attention. It includes the lowered height position, health complications, the consequences arising from the loss of sensation in the affected parts or the need for increased care for physical fitness. People with such injury face a different view of the society, transformation in the partnership's role, insecurity in self-confidence and other facts, which are generally reflected in their self- concept. Networks of Interest Groups - Interest Groups, their Positions and Relations in EU Legislative Process
Bubeníčková, Veronika ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Parízek, Michal (referee)
This diploma thesis examines networking of interest groups. It presents potentional entrance points for influencing legislative processes in the EU. The thesis focuses mainly on European Commission's public consultations. It tries to answer the question whether the interest groups cooperate strategically or whether they try to reach their goals on their own. This thesis is grounded in the framework of the network theory and uses the method of graphic modeling. For the research we have selected three areas of European Commission's consultations. The participating interest groups were chosen based on their characteristics and the consultations they took part in. We have found out that among the interest groups gathered around European Commission there is no close collaboration taking place. Furthermore, the interest groups act rather spontaneously as they are generally only taking part in individual consultations. Only 12.3% of them participated in more than one consultation and they were mainly registered organizations.
Brain Drain: Hindering Development of Lesser Developed Nations?
Galeano, Mario ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
Mario Galeano Thesis- Migration and Remittances: Hindering the Development of Lesser Developed Nations? International Economic and Political Studies Supervisor: Mgr Michal Parizek Abstract As migration has become recently one of the highlights for studies in sociology and economics and is becoming ever more apparent in the political discourse world-wide, the objective of this study is to widen our understanding of its effects on culture, politics, economy and development, particularly in Latin and Central America. It can be considered that the accelerated migration after the fall of Communism will not be slowing down, as economic inequalities within nations keep putting pressure on populations and as the levels of globalization open-up new spaces into which the former primary pressure for migration can be absorbed. An interaction of these two factors thus propels both the supply and the demand for migration. This thesis seeks to understand both sides of the migration phenomenon and investigate to what extent migration is hindering the development of Latin American nations that fall under the attraction of some more developed world powers and which subsequently lose the status of a self-sustaining economy. The study analyzes the case of migration of Central American workers primarily to the United States,...
The UN Security Council: the Voting Procedure and Effectiveness
Minárová, Martina ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This Bachelor thesis deals with the UN Security Council (SC), its voting procedure and effectiveness. A hypothetic change of the SC voting procedure is applied in the thesis. Such change consists in establishing the requirement of at least two or more negative votes of the SC permanent members for a draft resolution to be rejected. The goal is to discover what would be the consequences of the hypothetic change of Security Council voting procedure on voting outcomes. In addition, I aim to find out how would change the ability of the Security Council permanent members to further their national interests? Analysis is focused on the blocked SC resolutions with the negative vote of only one of its five permanent members. In the last part of the analysis I aim to discover, whether there is any connection between the structure of the SC voting procedure in the security issues discussed in the GA. Analysis is based on the presumption, that some security issues do not become a matter of the SC voting process due to the negative vote of one of its permanent members in the GA. Such issues would be probably blocked in the SC. It means that certain security issues do not appear in the Security Council due to the structure of its voting procedure.
