East-bohemian sites of pilgrimage - Marian pilgrimage sites of Homole and Neratov

Annotation: EAST-BOHEMIAN SITES OF PILGRIMAGE - SITES OF PILGRIMAGE DEDICA TED TO THE MARY HOMOLE AND NERATOV My thesis is attended to the East-Bohemian sites of pilgrimage, special1y focused on two ofthem, Homole and Neratov, their history and architecture. The first chapter describes the tradition of pilgrimage and devotions of Mary and the patron saints in Czech countries during the baroque era. The most famous East-Bohemian sites of pilgrimage are also introduced here. ln the second chapter the site of pilgrimage Homole is widely described. The church of Virgin Mary the Lady of Sorrow, situated on the top of the hill nearly the village Borovnice was buHt at the instigation of Terezie Eleonora, the countess of Ugarte. The stairway leading to the church, which is unique with its length, represents with the count of stairs and landings the prayer beads. The sculptural decoration was added in 1767. The third chapter is attended to the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Neratov, near the Czech - Polish border. The church had been built between 1723 - 1733 by Jan Karel Nostitz-Rhieneck in the style of late baroque. Iconography of wall paintings in the Straka Palace at Malá Strana in Prague Abstract This thesis "Iconography of wall paintings in the Straka Palace at Malá Strana in Prague" deals with the interpretation of the iconographic program of the decoration of the Straka's of Nedabylice palace on Malá Strana. The work deals primarily with the wall paintings made by Swiss painter Johann Rudolf Bys, ordered by Count Jan Petr Straka of Nedabylice for his Prague residence. Particular attention is paid to the main hall of the palace, which concentrates the most valuable and the most complicated part of the iconography painted decorations. Allegorical and mythological scenes related to historical events and celebrate the Emperor Leopold I. as the victor over the Turks and Louis XIV. The work also describes and interprets the murals and stucco decorations in other salons representative storey of the palace. The interpretation of these paintings is filed under the historical and political context of the time and knowledge of personality of Jan Petr Straka, who was anticipated customer and Inventor of the iconographic program . The Pilgrimage Chapel on Skalka near Mníšek pod Brdy

89 10 ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE In the Hřebeny mountain chain near Mníšek pod Brdy, you will find the pilgrimage site Skalka. The first building to be erected on Skalka was the Church of St. Mary Magdalene built from 1692 to 1693 and designed by the outstanding baroque architect Kryštof Dientzenhofer. In the same time, the monastery and a hermitage were completed also by Kryštof Dientzenhofer. These buildings and also farm buildings were built by the founder Servác Ignác Engel from Engelfluss to serve Benedictine monks, but they never came. Half a century later, in the years 1755-1762, countess Čejková had fourteen small chapels - the Stations of the Cross - built between the church and the hermitage and invited Franciscans from Prague monastery. They left Skalka at the begining of 20. century and in the second half of 20. century was pilgrimage site Skalka waste and desolated by iron-stone mining under the church. Today are these historical monuments repaired. The church (/chapel) of St. Mary Magdalene is established on oval horizontal projection and was decorated by artifical stalactites as grotto (cave). Anglická anotace This Examination paper speaks on subject locality under the Prague castle, where were situated St. Michael's Church with its cemetery in Sněmovní street in romanic period. At these days we don't know much about him, about its origin, because it was reached by destructional plunder in Hussite period and merciless fire in 1541 didn't spare him also. In 16th and 17th centrury was rebuilt in palace Harbuval-Chamaré. For thar reason the reports from literature are poor enough. Very important source of information, which can be a favourable clue to help us with determination about its inception and another valuable information are archeological documentation, research in building progress of Lesser Town locality and old manuscripts from 14th century. When the screpted clan moved on Prague, under the Castle became to be very favourable market place, catering the Castle along the Sněmovní street and trunk line led to the Castle from south throw Sněmovní street. This well situated parish church disposed of baptism law, burial law and other canon law, so important for the people. Thanks to its profable location and high population, the church with its cemetery yields hight profit. The inventory of St. Vitus Cathedral before it's regothicization

This bachelor work "The inventory of St. Vitus Cathedral before it's regothization" focuses mainly on three topics: The architectural appearance of St. Vitus Cathedral in the period before its neo-gothic completion, inventory in this temple focused on Baroque art, and life and cult of St. John of Nepomuk, who is a very important person for the St. Vitus Cathedral, as many artworks in the cathedral, placed here now or removed earlier, bear the image of the Czech saint, and often come directly from celebrations of his canonization. The aim of the work was mainly exploration and familiarization with the most important works of art from the baroque period, that were located in St. Vitus Cathedral before it's regothization, based on historical descriptions and visual documents, finding out further history of individual work of art, their current deposition, or effort to locate them.

Baroque monuments in Lysá nad Labem The final thesis deals with the theme Baroque monuments in Lysá nad Labem. This town is called "baroque pearl of Polabí" because there is the unique complex of baroque monuments in this town. We deal with the largest monuments: castle, garden by the castle with the sculptural decoration, building of the former monastýry and church of st. John Baptist. Mostly we resolve their an architecture and a sculpture less a painting. This monuments have a complicated history which we deal with too. The greatest bloom of the town and monuments was in a time of earl František Antonín Špork who was a maecenas of arts and rebuilt or built some part of these monuments. Bachelor thesis "Baroque monuments in the Sedlčany" at first devote to characterization of the area of Střední Povltaví and Sedlčansko with regard to their history. The following chapter is dealing with the origin and history of Sedlčany in times of their owners. Furthermore the work focuses to dean church of st. Martin, architectural development and inventory. Then the attention shifts to the baroque cemetery church Nanebevzetí Panny Marie and his inventory. Subsequently, the thesis briefly introduces chapters of the deanery, the Marian column in the square and unrealized castle by Antonio della Porta.
Karel Stádník and sacral art

In the thesis "Karel Stádník and Sacred Art" we start by a general rendering of the role, changes and development of sacred art not only in Bohemia. This introduction creates an overall context for the following description of the personality and work of the academic sculptor, restorer and permanent deacon Karel Stádník. As the author remains largely unnoticed in art history research and publications, in the thesis we provide new facts revealed during interviews with the artist's family. Thus - inter alia - we were able to extend the chapter dedicated to the artist's life and to elaborate the list of sacred works of the author. Close attention is paid to the general development and characteristic features of the author's work focusing mainly on the most important projects implemented in churches, including examples of conservation work. The next parts of the text are dedicated to selected artists with a major impact on Czech sacred art. These include architect Jan Sokol, painter Mikuláš Medek and all-round artist Ludvík Kolek. For each artist, details are provided regarding their life, personality and artistic development - again focusing mainly on the most important works for churches.
