Community Interpreting for the Deaf in the Czech Republic - current situation

This bachelor thesis deals with a current situation in the area of community interpreting for the deaf. The first part focuses on the definition: the community interpretations and the profession that we can meet in the community interpreting. There is a comparison of the community interpreting for the deaf and the community interpreting for foreigners and migrants, this involves a comparison of the ethical codes of both target groups. Briefly we are going to introduce a history of interpreting for the deaf. This thesis provides information about a supplier of community interpreting in the Czech Republic, that is the register of social services and The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The second part deals with a questionnaire survey on the functioning of individual providers of community interpreting for the deaf, compared to providers of community interpreting of community interpreting for the deaf at present.
Vocational Orientation of the Deaf Pupils

The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to learn about vocational orientation of deaf pupils in their last years of study at selected elementary schools for the Deaf and to compare the results to results of similar studies done with pupils without hearing impairment. Based on relevant scientific sources, the paper introduces general aspects that shape vocational orientation, also describes vocational development on D. E. Super's Career Development Theory. The thesis continues with characterizing aspects that shape vocational orientation, but are specific for deaf pupils who attend elementary schools for the Deaf, e.g. Deaf identity, Deaf culture, attitudes of the majority towards deaf people, the language and information barrier and the educational system for deaf pupils in the Czech Republic, including a depiction of the concept of vocational training at schools for the Deaf. Based on an analysis of the curricular documents and information provided by teachers, the paper also describes the concept of vocational training at three selected schools for the Deaf. These schools were then visited and their 9th and 10th grade students were presented with a questionnaire mapping their educational and vocational aspirations. Studium a hodnocení vybraných odrůd Aktinidií

This work deals with the study and evaluation of selected varieties of Actinidia. The work may be familiar with some kinds of Actinidia, such as aktnidie Chinese (Actnidia chinensis), hardy kiwi (Actinidia arguta) and aktnidie kolomikta (Actnidia kolomikta). It provides information from selected species come from and their extensions, as well as their habitat requirements, methods of reproduction and the possible use of fruit. In this paper also noted appreciation plantation range on the School farm in Žabčice. When observation was evaluated assortment of planted species of Actinidia and their varieties. The annex includes a range of photographic documentation planted varieties. Individual species of Actinidia differ in basic morphological and anatomical characters. Actinidia Chinese know by larger fruit with hairy peel, hardy kiwi and Actinidia kolomikta have small fruits unlike Actinidia Chinese. Actinidia Chinese, here known as "kiwi" provides a very popular fruit because of its taste. The fruit are rich in vitamin C, also have antioxidant properties and are also used in medicine. Plant cultivation must choose the correct habitat conditions for their cultivation. Plants are consuming plenty of light and planting should not shade each other. Greater fertility will support regular zaštipováním shoots. Harvest fruits takes place in the fall. The best fruit is harvested after the first autumn freezing when it improves taste characteristics. Based on an evaluation, fundamental growth indicators in the range of varieties planted actinides was found that the highest value growth indicators, including high resistance to frost damage, the representatives of Actinidia arguta Praděd, Actinidia kolomikta 'Geisha'. The lowest values of growth indicators including low resistance to frost damage were Actinidia kolomikta varieties 'Vitakola' and Actinidia arguta odrůdy 'Lída Sweet'.
Gradual modifications of the Czech sign language used in communication with the deaf who have progressive visual impairment

This bachelor thesis describes modifications of the Czech sign language, used in communication with the deaf who have a progressive visual impairment of several levels. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the modified and the tactile sign language, which these people will probably once use for the communication. There is also mentioned the issue of interpreting for the deafblind people. The practical part of the thesis contains an analysis of videos that show a conversation of two prelingual deaf people with their deafblind partners. All these videos were compared with a conversation of prelingual deaf communication partners without a visual impairment about the same themes. The results of the research demonstrates, that both of the deaf speakers made the similar basic principles of the modifications, but their frequency differed in order to the level of the visual impairment of the deafblind recipient. Based on the results there were made some basic recommendations for a communication and interpreting for people who have a progressive visual impairment. Handshapes in Czech Sign Language and Types of Its Signs (Frequency analysis of Communication of Czech Deaf)

The thesis will deal with the frequency analysis of handshapes and types of signs in the Czech sign language. The analysis will be based on authentic communications of the Czech deaf with different characteristics (signers of different sex, age, education etc.) as well as communications representing the influence of different objective factors, viz. private vs. public communications, monologues vs. dialogues etc. The results of the frequency analysis will be compared both to analogous results of research in other sign languages, such as American, Australian and British, and to the results of frequency analysis of passive handshapes, or unmarked handshapes in the Czech sign language.
Role shifting in Czech Sign Language

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the expression of role shifting in Czech sign language. The goal of the thesis is to describe the mechanisms of expressing role shifting in Czech sign language within our survey and comparing the results with findings from abroad. The principles of work are mostly based on foreign literature and they are compared with Czech sign language. A part of the thesis is a DVD of deaf respondents' recordings who use Czech sign language and which illustrate the way of expressing role shifting in Czech sign language.

7 Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with communication with Deaf, Hard of hearing and Deafened passengers in air transportation, specifically in Czech Airlines and other foreign airlines of SkyTeam alliance. The theoretical part describes communication, communicative situations and communication of people with hearing disabilities. The aim of practical part was - through a questionnaire survey among cabin crew and interviews with Deaf, Hard of hearing and Deafened passengers - to describe the current situation in this area. Czech Signs for Elementary Calendrical Units

The goal of this thesis is to survey the signs of Czech sign language for basic calendrical units (seasons, months, days). The thesis is based on a set of linguistic data collected by the method of elicitation among deaf informants from six cities in the Czech Republic (Brno, Hradec Králové, Ostrava, Plzeň, Praha and Zlín). The set of linguistic data is described from the point of view of motivation including folk etymology. The topic of sociolinguistic variation is also covered in the thesis, because the data include lexical and phonological variants connected to particular regions or age groups. Development of translation methods on the example of various translations of A. Stifter's Novella Der Hochwald

The thesis deals with the issue of all existing Czech translations of Adalbert Stifter's novella Der Hochwald, which were created in the first half of the 19th century, in the first and in the second half of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century. The first part of the thesis is concerned with Adalbert Stifter's life and work and with the reception of his works within the Czech cultural context. Further, Czech translators of the novella are introduced and the source text is briefly analysed. The final part describes the development of translation methods and offers comparative translation analysis of selected passages. The primary objective of the presented thesis is to describe the changes in translation methods using results of the analysis.
Sign Language Translation in State Administration in Germany: Barrier Free Web Accessibility

The aim of this thesis is to describe Web accessibility in state administration in the Federal Republic of Germany in relation to the socio-demographic group of deaf sign language users who did not have the opportunity to gain proper knowledge of a written form of the German language. The demand of the Deaf to information in an accessible form as based on legal documents is presented in relation to the theory of translation. How translating from written texts into sign language works in practice shows an example from two sign language translation providers in Germany. In conclusion, the visually accessible information on the Web might have an impact on the quality of Deaf people's lives.
