Acculturation strategies and negotiation of identity in individuals with migration experience

The diploma thesis focuses on the acculturation strategies which are used by young adults belonging to Vietnamese ethnic minority in long-term contact with majority. The main goal of the study is to analyze negotiation of identity in young adults from families with migration experience. The research question is how they reflect own previous and recent experiences and I strive to understand what meaning it has for them. In the theoretical part, I introduced the basic concepts and theories of acculturation psychology, acculturation strategies, development of identity, ethnic identity, context of ethnic communities, etc. Furthermore I deal with a number of significant links which have influence to formation of identity, for example family background, attitudes towards their own culture, possibilities for cultural transmission, language skills, context of majority. Thanks to autobiographical narratives we can see the way of daily negotiation of the identity at the young adult ethnic Vietnamese. By using the biographical design method, we will look at the strategies of acculturation, the view of actors and the subjective meanings of moments in their lives. Resilience in first generation college students

The Bachelor thesis is dedicated to exploring resilience in first-generation college students. The aim is to affect factors contributing to the design of resilience and stress management strategies based on analysis of study experience. The theoretical part represents the situation of first-generation university students in the context of mental health. Attention is paid to resilience, protective and risk factors, and specific factors that strengthen or inhibit resilience in these students. The empirical part uses complex methodologies: individual trajectory of study, The Brief Resilience Scale, and semi-structured interviews. The research sample is composed of ten first-generation students (21-24 years) studying full-time in humanities-oriented fields in the 2nd to 5th year of the bachelor's program. Individual medallions of resilience were created from the data collected and a thematic analysis of interviews was carried out. Research shows the importance of close relationships and a supportive learning environment for the development of higher resilience, at the same time for shaping resilience in some can be beneficial, overcoming the initial adversity that leads to building adaptability to burdens. Construction of student identity of Vietnamese college students with parents with different educational attainment

This bachelor thesis discusses the topic of university students of Vietnamese origin in regard to their parents' educational level. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether there are some differences between students, whose parents have achieved university degree, and students, whose parents do not have university degree. The potential differences are examined in relation to their perceptions of themselves as students, their decisions about university studies, the values ascribed to higher education and the processes that shape their identity. The research is also taking to account the influence of cultural context associated with family's migration experience, straddling between two cultures and relationship between children and parents. Theoretical chapters describe theories of educational transmission and the effects of social origin on education attainment. They also present the issue of first- generation university students and characterize Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic. Comparison of selected illegal drug users depending on various factors

The Bachelor's thesis called Comparison of selected illegal drug users depending on a various factors deals in theory part with drug issues such as basic drug definition, development, signs and consequences of addiction, as well as addiction treatment. The thesis includes the classification of the most used illegal drugs, legislation of the Czech Republic linked to the possession, use and trafficking of illegal substances and basic types of prevention. The main objective of the practical part is to determine key factors for the effect on the first use of illegal drugs by comparing the testimonies of selected research respondents. The inquiry also includes three sub-objectives relating to the underlying circumstances of addiction, the effect of educational attainment on the use of illegal substances and the factors that led to a restriction or complete cessation of the use of illegal drugs in those asked. A total of ten respondents - eight men and two women in the range of 18 to 32 years old - were interviewed in the form of interviews. The awareness of students of secondary grade elementary school about the causes and consequences of the use of selected addictive substances.

The diploma thesis focuses on the awareness of 2nd grade pupils of the selected primary school about the causes and consequences of the use of selected addictive substances. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes the drug scene in the Czech Republic and the drug policy of the Czech Republic, the concepts of drug addiction, physical and mental addiction. The diploma thesis is focused on legal drugs - alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and illegal drugs - specifically on cannabis drugs. The next part of the work deals with addictive problems in children and adolescents and current trends in the use of addictive substances in young people in the Czech Republic according to several studies. At the end of the theoretical part, risk and protective factors influencing the emergence of addiction and risks and the consequences of selected addictive substances are described. Integration of foreign students in the Czech public higher education: difficulties and opportunities

The central theme of this diploma thesis is to analyze key stress factors, which foreign background students meet during their integration in the Czech Republic. All respondents are recruited from the Eastern European countries, for instance, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. Two main groups include: - students who are in the Czech Republic less than one year - students who are in the Czech Republic for more than one year The primary research method was using a semi-structured interview with eight respondents. For measuring acculturative stress level was used the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), which was filled in by 36 students. There were found differences in the adjustment level and language competence among two groups of students. This research has also confirmed the relationship between the length of stay in the Czech Republic a level of acculturative stress. High school students and the choice of university in families without university education

The bachelor thesis named High school students and the choice of university in families without university education will focus on decision to choose a university from the point of view of a high school student and his parent. The goal of this thesis is to point out factors influencing the choices of a high school student leading to continue study at the university and further to find out, what influences parents in supporting their children in further education. I specifically explore the situation of families, where the parents have not achieved university education. The theoretical part will familiarize the reader with basic concepts connected to choosing univerzity, choosing work and school and family environment, that have an effect on an idnividual. Furthermore in the theoretical part of my thesis, I focus on psychological evolvement of humans beings, specifically adolescence and emerging adulthood. School support for pupils suffering from the loss of relatives

This diploma thesis is dealing with the methods teachers and school psychologist may use to approach their pupils who have been affected by the death of their relative, particularly a family member. The theoretical part of the thesis is focusing on the existing research in the area of mourning of school-age children and pays special attention to the risks connected with insensitive approach of teachers in this matter. The thesis tries to introduce some principles of the teacher's sensitive approach during the lessons, while paying extra attention to the personal and moral development of the individual in the area of their perception of surroundings, specifically during Civic Education and Health Education. The next topic in the theoretical part is the cognitive development of pupils and their view on the death itself in general, as it is a part of life that we have to somehow prepare for and thus need to have some kind of knowledge about the difficulties that come with death.
