Transmition of generalized trust
Klusáček, Jan ; Hamplová, Dana (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
The thesis deals with the inter-generational transmission of generalized trust. The generalized trust (as an optimistic attitude toward interaction with unknown people) is known as an important component of social capital and as a requirement of a functioning society. The starting point is the cultural view of the trust as the moral norm with deep historical roots, according to these theories we are learning to trust in early childhood from our parents. The motivation for the creation of the thesis is an absence of recent studies and studies from post-socialist countries on the topic of transmission of trust from parents to children. The cultural theories of generalized trust are assuming intergenerational transmission of trust largely without empirical evidence. The proving of trust socialization could provide an insight into the stability of attitude over time and space. The data from the first wave of The Czech Household Panel Survey from 2015 was used to analyse the connection between the children's generalized trust and the parents' generalized trust. The relationship between children's and parents' generalized trust was discovered. The hypothesis suggesting a stronger influence of the mother on the child's trust than the influence of the father was not confirmed. The children of...
Commitments in Love Relationships
Matyášová, Lucie ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
In my diploma thesis I intend to look into the issue of commitment in love relationships. I wonder how it is influenced by the nature of nowadays society enhancing individualism and flexibility. Commitments are based in merging our own identity with identity of our partner. But crucial is to balance it with our own autonomy and freedom. Commitment means putting certain restrictions to our future choices. I made sixteen semi-structured qualitative interviewes based on grounded theory and I looked for answers how they perceive commitments in love relationships, what meaningful partnership means to them and how they cope with comparing potential alternatives. Keywords Commitment, love, relationship, individualism, autonomy
Homoparentality as a social stigma
Giebel, Pavel ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor thesis shortly introduces homoparentality in history, refers to civil partnership as a connected topic and also describes the possibilities of homoparental family formation and it's functioning. The main topic consists in a relationship between homoparental families and social stigma on the basis of the theory of Erving Goffman. One of the thesis' targets follows the homoparental families as an object of social stigma based on the respondent's experiences included in foreign qualitative studies. The results confirm an influence of social stigma on homoparental families. The second target follows Goffman's strategies of coping with social stigma. The thesis also uses the respondent's experiences included in foreign qualitative studies to find examples of using these strategies by homoparental families and their children. Hiding and showing of the stigma and relying on friends as the examples of strategies are contained. On the other side stands the social stigma used as an excuse which is not reported.
The "nureochiba" ("wet fallen leaves") phenomenon in Japanese society
Arshinnikova, Vera ; Sýkora, Jan (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
This thesis deals with the phenomenon of retirement divorce in Japan. I interpret this problem in a wider social context, that is, taking into account the economic, political and value system situation in the country. I first describe the commencement of a social discussion on the issue which took place in the 1990s. Subsequently, I identify the population at risk, which is the first post-war generation (1945-1947) of salarymen - company employees. I describe the conditions under which relationships have been formed in their families and I conclude that their basic characteristics are gender segregation of activities and life orientations between men and women. At the same time, I identify the repressive character of male identity which is tied to work and company, and the internal diversity of female identity. After retirement, the two spouses' identities clash. Divorce occurs if the efforts of men and women to cope with changes in social roles aren't mutual and spouses are unwilling to adapt to each other. Keywords: nure ochiba, retirement divorce, retires husband syndrome, salarymen
Factors of satisfaction with and repeated use of peer-to-peer accommodation
Bělohradská, Michaela ; Sedláčková, Markéta (advisor) ; Sládek, Jan (referee)
In order to better understand the usage of peer-to-peer accommodation, the thesis examines factors of satisfaction with and repeated use of this accommodation option. An additional research purpose of this thesis is to explore, what factors are affecting the attitude of users of peer-to-peer accommodation to the sharing economy. Research sample (N = 129) is constituted of users of Couchsurfing who were specified into next stratified systematic selection on the basis of their availability through search engine of hosts, their residence in Prague, Czech language and activity on their user profile within the last six months. On the basis of the relevant theoretical framework a questionnaire and research model were created. Consequent analysis of data from a quantitative online survey was conducted using regression analysis. The results reveal that the perceived environmental frugality contributes most to the probability of the re- use of peer-to-peer accommodation, and it is also influential in context of attitude. The findings also refer to the environmental frugality, joy of helping others, and economic savings as factors positively influencing users' satisfaction with peer-to-peer accommodation.
Division of Domestic Labor in the Czech Households and Its Change from 2002 to 2012
Drábik, Miloslav ; Hamplová, Dana (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on division of domestic labor in the Czech households and its change from 2002 to 2012 based on data from the International Social Survey Programme. It aims to uncover determining factors of the time that man or woman spends on domestic chores. Building on the conviction that the Czech Republic is going through similar value transformation that advanced western countries already experienced, we are also able to track similar transformation in division of household labor and explain this change through this value transformation. Theory of this diploma thesis is based on different approaches - economic approaches (human capital theory and the theory of relative resources) and gender approaches - that explain division of household labor by different factors. Therefore, based on its hypothesis, it is predicting that while economic factors affecting the time that an individual spends housework will decrease in its importance, normative/value factors will conversely rise.
Voter turnout: Undecided individuals in public opinion surveys
Kovářová, Klára ; Chábová, Kristýna (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with the identification of undecided voters in terms of voter turnout in the Czech republic. In this paper I call them "possible voters". In other words in preelection polls these individuals declare they are not decided whether they will vote or not. I use preelections polls that are part of continual reserach survey called "Our society" conducted monthly by The Public Opinion Research Centre in order to find out what is the percentage of these voters. This study is focused on the period between 1990 and 2013 and explicitly on general elections. The other aim of this paper is to describe how the percentage of possible voters varies among certain sociodemographics. Moreover, I try to discover what the key factors that might influence why these possible voters are undecided are. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Mass media portrayal of Czech courts
Forejtová, Natálie ; Homolová, Pavla (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
This thesis focuses on the mass media portrayal of Czech courts in the context of the possible influence on the court's legitimacy and confidence. The research of portrayal is based on the analysis of Fagan's dimensions of legitimacy (effectiveness, distributive justice and procedural justice), court rulings and the overall view. The representation of sources of legitimacy rather corresponds to materialistic society - the most represented dimension in 2014 was the effectiveness, on the other hand, distributive justice was represented the least. Normative factors, namely procedural fairness, however, were not covered much. The portrayal in 2014 was, in terms of judicial rulings and the overall view, rather neutral but the sources of legitimacy were mostly negative. Differences were mainly found among mass media portrayal of the lower courts and higher courts and the differences correspond to different confidence in these institutions. I also studied the development since 1997, but besides the increasing interest of mass media in the courts, I have not found any other significant differences which could cause the rise of confidence in the courts. Mass media can also cause the difference in confidence in the courts of the left-wing and right-wing oriented people, because the journal Pravo has a slight...
Non-voters in elections to Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic 2013 and their motivation to electoral absence
Nováková, Eliška ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Markéta (referee)
The issue of this thesis is to chart the motivations of non-voters for not attending the election to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic. This election had the second lowest turnout in the history of the Czech Republic in this type of election which is considered by the citizens to be the most important type of election. A decreasing turnout can be a threat to a proper functioning of democracy. In the theoretical part of the paper, the theory of functioning democracy and the theory explaining the decreasing turnout are introduced. According to several studies, there is a difference between younger and older generation, so I decided to explore this difference. Therefore, fifteen semi-structured interviews with non-voters have been conducted to detect the cause of this situation. Collected sample contains nine younger non-voters and six older ones. The data were analyzed according to the rules of grounded theory. The product of this analysis is a typology of non-voters and their main motivations for non-voting and a scheme of participating factors. The result of the analysis suggests that there is a difference between younger and older generation. Keywords: Non-voters, election behavior, politics, motivations
