Volcanic rocks and possibilities of their research using geophysical methods
Votrubcová, Kristýna ; Valenta, Jan (advisor) ; Vlček, Josef (referee)
5 Abstrakt (EN) The research focuses on the application of geophysical methods and subsequent data processing for the prospecting of igneous rocks and the search for volcanic structures. The literature review summarizes the physical and petrological foundations of various physical methods that can be utilized in the search for volcanic rocks, and discusses their most appropriate uses. The greatest emphasis is placed on the method of magnetometry, which is significant in identifying volcanoes. The work also explores the use of geoelectrical and seismic methods, radiometry, and gravimetry. In the practical section, geophysical measurements were conducted in the field to map the extent of the Tertiary volcano and other geological structures in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The extent of the volcanic body was successfully mapped using magnetic measurements. The results of the measured Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) profile corresponded to the extent of the volcanite body and showed that the body was significantly fractured. Other findings include the mapping of a fault zone, to which the volcanic body ascend could be linked, and the mapping of another fault zone in a nearby valley, which is assumed to have a fault character. Key words: igneous rocks, volcanism, geophysics, magnetometry, VLF, ERT
Association between louse abundance and MHC II supertypes in Galápagos mockingbirds
VLČEK, Jakub
In this thesis I describe association between abundance of ectoparasitic lice and supertypes of major histocompatibility complex in mockingbirds of Galápagos islands. I report a significant association between several supertypes and the lice abundance. Lice abundance was correlated also with heterocyte to lymphocyte ratio, an immunogenetic index reflecting rate of immune stress. This scientific contribution is valuable, because ectoparasite abundance in birds was rarely contrasted to MHC and other immune indices.
Conservation genetics of Galápagos mockingbirds: from immune genes to genomes
VLČEK, Jakub
In this thesis I have dealt with the population genetic processes of mockingbirds in the Galápagos Islands ( Mimus ) in relation to the limited island area, from the perspective of two types of immune genes and the genome-wide approach. The thesis starts with an introduction to population genetic concepts relevant to conservation genetics followed by description of immune genes: the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and the Toll-like receptors (TLR). In the final part of the introduction, I address how genetic drift, selection and inbreeding shape genome-wide genetic patterns in small populations. The introduction is followed by four chapters, beginning with an examination of MHCII polymorphism in populations of mockingbirds in the Galápagos Islands. The study of the relationship between MHCII and the abundance of ectoparasites is the content of the second chapter. The third chapter shows how polymorphism of TLRs is shaped by interaction of genetic drift and natural selection. The last chapter deals with the effects of limited island size on inbreeding and genetic load, supported by inferences of the past demography of mockingbirds. The thesis concludes with a summary of the results and their potential implications in the field of conservation genetics.
Some modifications of the limited-memory variable metric optimization methods
Vlček, Jan ; Lukšan, Ladislav
Several modifications of the limited-memory variable metric (or quasi-Newton) line search methods for large scale unconstrained optimization are investigated. First the block version of the symmetric rank-one (SR1) update formula is derived in a similar way as for the block BFGS update in Vlˇcek and Lukˇsan (Numerical Algorithms 2019). The block SR1 formula is then modified to obtain an update which can reduce the required number of arithmetic operations per iteration. Since it usually violates the corresponding secant conditions, this update is combined with the shifting investigated in Vlˇcek and Lukˇsan (J. Comput. Appl. Math. 2006). Moreover, a new efficient way how to realize the limited-memory shifted BFGS method is proposed. For a class of methods based on the generalized shifted economy BFGS update, global convergence is established. A numerical comparison with the standard L-BFGS and BNS methods is given.

Valuation of the project
Horáková, Lucie ; Sieber, Martina (advisor) ; Vlček, Josef (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the financial evaluation of a fictitious investment project, which deals with the establishment of the garden center Zahradnictví Pomněnka. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part presents selected static and dynamic evaluation methods. The bachelor thesis also deals with financial statements and marketing tools. In the practical part, selected methods are applied to a fictitious investment project. In the end, a recommendation is formulated for the investor with regard to the obtained data.
Evaluation of a Transport Infrastructure Investment
Blažek, Tomáš ; Sieber, Martina (advisor) ; Vlček, Josef (referee)
In this work, I deal with external costs used in economic evaluations of transport infrastructure projects. Specifically, I measure how the results of an economic evaluation depend on the input parameters used. In the first part of my work, I analyze and compare various methods for determining the social costs of accidents and noise. In the second part of my work, I verify the official economic evaluation of the Prague - Dresden high-speed railway project using modified input data. The analysis of the methods for determining the societal costs of transportation-related accidents and noise has shown that there is no single method to be universally applicable regardless of context. The calculations performed using modified input parameters revealed high variability in the results of economic evaluations. The high degree of dependence of the results of economic evaluations on the input parameters confirms the importance of standardization of the methodology for economic evaluation of projects. Key words: evaluation, externalities, investment
Analysis of drug-drug interactions in patients admitted to hospital (II.)
Mašková, Daniela ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Malý, Josef (referee)
Candidate: Daniela Mašková1 Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Jiří Vlček, CSc.1 Consultant: PharmDr. Zuzana Očovská1 Title of the master thesis: Analysis of drug-drug interactions in patients admitted to hospital (II.) 1 Department Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) are part of drug-related problems. Drug-related problems can be either potential (possibly leading to real problems for the patient) or manifest (the problem already impacts the patient). This study aims to identify potential DDIs in the medication history of patients acutely admitted to University Hospital Hradec Králové via the department of emergency medicine. The objectives are to determine the prevalence of hospital admissions with at least one potential DDI in the medication history and characterize the identified potential DDIs with respect to their mechanism, severity rating, level of documentation, and potential consequences. Another objectives was to identify medication classes involved in potential DDI. The design of this study is an observational cross-sectional study. The data were obtained from the previous study examining the drug-relatedness of 1252 hospital admissions. For the purpose of my master's thesis, a sample of 378 hospital admissions was...

Kartali Kaouni, Marilena ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Matoulková, Petra (referee)
Title: Analysis of Pharmacotherapy by patients with diagnosis of COPD Student: Marilena Kartali-Kaouni Tutor: Prof. RNDr. Jiri Vlcek, CSc Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove Background: " Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. The airflow limitation is usually both progressive and associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lungs to noxious particles or gases". Tobacco smoking is the major risk factor in the development of COPD. COPD is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Aim: 1st from the current literature to understand the nature of COPD and obtain information about the aetiopathogenesis of the disease, diagnosis options and summarize the current view of strategies for achieving the goals of treatment. 2nd in a pilot study to analyze drug therapy in COPD patients visiting a pharmacy in Greece. Methods: 56 prescriptions with the diagnosis of COPD were collected during a period of 8 months from a Greek pharmacy. Information from the prescriptions with regard to COPD medications prescribed (active substances, trade names, strength, dosage scheme, pack size), patients characteristics (age and gender) and prescribing...
The application of marketing mix - case study
Otavová, Petra ; Vlček, Josef (advisor) ; Sieber, Martina (referee)
The final aim of my study is to create marketing mix for selling luxury eyeglasses. This study is worked out in conditions of the company named Optik Otava which does not use professional marketing strategic planning. First of all the optical profession is presented and the optical market is analyzed. In the second part, there is prepared a theoretical base for marketing mix creation. Marketing mix is just one part of marketing strategic planning, therefore I also have to speak of particular methods used for situation analysis processing, the marketing aims, marketing strategies and segmentation of the market. Then the detailed elaboration of fundamental parts in marketing mix (product, price, place and promotion) is realized. The last part is the case study. There is description of the company which is mentioned above, as well as, there is created the structure of its marketing mix. The value of nonprofessional marketing mix is not low. Despite of this fact there are suggested proposals and recommendations at the end, which could positively affect marketing mix of that company. The most important one relevant to the place proposes to establish the own wholesale. This would affect also the price and the product. The whole study should be valuable for the company. It should help its to develop the marketing...
