Private Equity
Plavec, Martin ; Hraba, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jan (referee)
74 ABSTRACT This thesis deals with the private equity industry. Its aim is to coherently introduce private equity as a distinctive and integral part of today's economy, to provide relevant insight on the principles of functioning of private equity business model, and to analyse the mechanism of the most commonly used private equity transaction type. The thesis is structured into three chapters with each chapter being dedicated to one of the sub-aims. First chapter defines the notion of private equity and discusses the history of the industry and its economic performance. Private equity encompasses all types of equity investments into non-publicly traded companies. The industry itself has been gaining on significance since its emersion in the 1980s, mainly due to the fact that private equity investments have been consistently outperforming public markets in terms of realized returns. Second chapter is dedicated to the business model of private equity funds, their structure and lifecycle, as well as the investment process itself. Private equity funds take on the limited partnership legal form, which is managed by a professional private equity house while the investors' involvement consists solely in the provision of capital. A fund's lifetime is usually limited by a period of ten years and its lifecycle is...
Company valuation
Brada, Jiří ; Pokorný, Jan (advisor) ; Hraba, Zdeněk (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to comprehensively describe the valuation process, emphasize the significance of each part and point out possible pitfalls. The methodological valuation theory is not regulated in the Czech Republic, with a few exceptions, thus the credibility of the final value depends on the economic quality of applied process. Before the valuation methodology itself is applied, there has to be carried out both strategic and financial analysis providing the inputs for the applied models. Strategic analysis examines both general macroeconomic conditions, which could affect future performance of the company, and relevant market the company operates on within the competitive landscape. Strategic analysis provides the inputs into subsequent financial plan, primarily based on historical financial performance of the company, and serve as its corrective. In this thesis there were analyzed yield-based and market multiples methods, complemented by asset-based approach. Yield-based methods, i.e. DCF and EVA, are based on discounted future value which will the company generate. That implicates the suitability of its application for the companies with predictable financial plan. That means mostly companies with stable financial history, in case of young innovative startup the usage of such a method...
Financing of business (economic and legal issues)
Votánek, Pavel ; Hraba, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to create an overview and comparison of sources of corporate financing with regard to the synthesis of economic and legal theory and practice. The result is a brief overview of the sources of corporate financing, which is useful for one-study candidate, for whom it represents an opportunity to become acquainted with the problems that it is closely related to their focus, but often in a single-subject publications is not fully discussed. Secondly the thesis is a useful study tool t for those interested in a comprehensive familiarization with the problems on the border between the economic and legal field. Within the legal field, I have focused on a list of the most important changes in connection with the recodification of private law in the Czech Republic. The aim of this thesis is certainly not to pursue individual aspects at the highest possible detail. In the first chapter, I firstly laid terminological and theoretical basis of the work, so that the reader is already familiar in the introduction to the nomenclature, and the differences arising from differences in the use of terms within the legal and economic theories. I also explicated terms of financial management and basic types of split of financing. In the second chapter, I focused on basic economic factors...

(in English): This thesis is dedicated to the analysis and evaluation of applied information architecture of two selected digital libraries - Manuscriptorium and Kramerius of the National Digital Library. Information architecture is one of several interconnected web design disciplines. For designing purposes, information architecture can be defined as a complex of elements and principles. Analysis and evaluation of the existing information architecture depends on its integration into the web sites context. The thesis contains theoretical part with definition of information architecture, its elements and principles of design. It describes evaluation methods of information architecture as a combination of qualitative and quantitative elements of web sites. Information architecture of digital libraries often means architecture of the system. The thesis contains a definition of a digital library and explains focus on access application. Testing of web usability is the best way of testing the information architecture of digital libraries. It enables to test information architecture from user's point of view. The conclusion provide results of the usability tests.
Comparison of various approaches to evaluation of tree energetic balance
Tomková, Alžběta ; Pokorný, Jan (advisor) ; Lhotáková, Zuzana (referee)
The thesis deals with the tree energetic balance closely related to the phenomenon of plant transpiration. Living systems have a unique ability to equilibrate gradients in the nature. Storing energy of the incoming solar radiation into a latent heat of water evaporation is an example of such tree feature. It dissipates energy and simultaneously recycles nutrients and water in the ecosystem. There are few possible ways of energy balance detection shown in this work. The thermal imagining can be used as a method for an indirect indication of transpiration - transpiring plants have lower leaf surface temperature. An alternative method for determining the rate of transpiration is a direct measurement of transpiration on leaves or transpiration flow in a tree trunk. However, extrapolation of the above mentioned methods to entire stands can encounter some difficulties. The first part of the thesis presents a description of a physical background of energetic processes and the ways in which plants operate with water, the biotic pump theory is being discussed. The practical part begins with experiments on single leaves. These experiments are carried out to test the usability of the methods for the following experiments, which are performed on the entire living trees. They are focused on the relationship of the...

Money laundering
Kocur, Martin ; Hraba, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jan (referee)
Money laundering is marginalized phenomenon with high social impact which comes from necessary connection of this activity with illegal activities, especially organized crime. Since the goal of almost every illegal activity is to create profit (and since the biggest profit comes from the activities which are highly dangerous for the society, such as drug trafficking) it is vital for the society to fight money laundering effectively. It is in the best interest of the whole society to fight this phenomenon and cut the organized crime out of their resources through effective control of the money laundering. The goal of this thesis is to explain the issue of money laundering in detail, to map the whole process while using mostly comparative and analytic methods and summarize the international and Czech anti- money laundering legislation. I would be glad if the reader had truly concrete idea about the phenomenon of money laundering after reading my thesis. In the first part, I am dealing with the whole concept of money laundering, meaning history and definition of the term itself. I also compare terms money laundering and legalization of proceeds from crime. Then I analyze the true nature of money laundering and financing of terror and the process of money laundering. I also deal with concrete subjects...

1 Abstract Title of the thesis: Investment instruments The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze various investment instruments, their markets and their feasibility as an alternative to saving products. Secondary purpose of this thesis is to define a model investor, create reasonable and fitting investment strategy for them and introduce examples of investment portfolios that fulfill the strategy. The thesis is divided into two main chapters, each of which analyzes investment instruments from different perspectives. Chapter One introduces the instruments in general and describes their key characteristics, their legal regulation and brief history. One subchapter is dedicated to explaining motives driving the participants of financial markets. Another subchapter categorizes the investment instruments and divides them into distinct groups. Last subchapter investigates the financial markets themselves and describes their types, structure and functions. Chapter Two introduces a model investor and describes their particular motives for investing. Two subchapters analyze historical development of selected instruments and saving products and then compare the results. In the last subchapter assumptions are made about various products' feasibility for the model investor. Specific investment strategy for the model...
