Changes in structure of journalism by new media and social media

Bachelors thesis deals with complex description of the newest trends in electronic sharing of content, its impact on form of journalism and related risks in changing the processes of making and reception of news. The thesis tracks forms of newsmaking and news, new ways of information from their producers to consumers and their new aspects - instant delivery, growing proximity and the question of their subscription fees. It is also dedicated to the development of semantic web, because of its knowledge gap in broad population, particularly in comparison to its current and future benefits and issues.
Media image of the Workers Party during Janov events on the pages of Mlada Fronta DNES and Lidove Noviny

Diploma thesis "Media Image of the Workers Party During Janov Events on the Pages of Mlada fronta Dnes and Lidove noviny" deals with the manner how two chosen Czech newspapers referred about the commotions in Janov, which is a part of Litvinov, Northern Bohemia. In autumn 2008 members and supporters of ultra-right Delnicka strana (the Workers Party) clashed with police and local Romany after they tried to break through to the Janov housing estate. According to them, their aim was to support and protect the local non-Romany inhabitants. The methods of the thesis are quantitative and qualitative analysis of the media content. Thanks to them it is able to compare the amount of space which two chosen newspapers used to refer about these events and if their news were balanced and in which manners did they differ. There is also a theoretical part, in which a development and rise of Czech rightwing extremism after the Velvet revolution is described and summed up, focusing on the political parties who represented the Nazis in the 1990s and now - the SPR-RSC (Republicans) and Delnicka strana.
TheOnion.com - vanishing differences between the quasi-journalism and the traditional journalism in on-line media

The objects of this dissertation are vanishing differences between the quasi-journalism and the traditional journalism in online media using the example of the satire quasi-journalistic website TheOnion.com in comparison to CNN.com and NYTimes.com. It compares TheOnion.com to TV satire shows The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. It gives history and overview of The Onion and describes situations in which the articles of The Onion were taken seriously. It explores the form, topics and style of TheOnion.com.
The photo editor as a gatekeeper

Bachelor thesis deals with the work of Czech photo editors in a daily and weekly papers. The work analyzes what their function in media is, what their common day looks like, who they are speaking with and then what their daily decisions about photographs are. The first chapters describe the role of photo editors as gatekeepers. I try to compare what was their job earlier, when the time of technological convergence didn't exist. I deal with a photo editing practicies like searching, selection and gathering materials too. The second analytic part consist of the deep interviews with photo editors and other members of newsroom. I compare their information with the information of foreign media books. The object of the thesis is to show on six chosen important Czech daily and weekly papers how the photo editors work, what is their leading role and whether they are important for the organization or not.
Typography of the Literary Magazine Plamen (1959 - 1969)

The thesis "Typography of the literary magazine Plamen (1959-1969)" concerns itself with the overall graphical appearance of the important Czech literary magazine Plamen, published in the years 1959 to 1969. It notes the various elements of the types and the typesetting - the fonts used for texts and for titles, the typesetting of prose, poetry and entertainment pages. The paper describes, analyses and categorises myriad typographical solutions of titles and of the magazine's covers. An important part of the research is the list of artists whose work was published during the magazine's existance and the conclusions drawn from this list that show Plamen's attitude towards the visual arts. The paper further notes the physical characteristics of the magazine and the limitations caused most of all by the technological possibilities of the period, including the quality of paper, the page format and the use of coloured printing. It gives a perspective of the magazine's appearance by comparing it with other contemporary literary magazines. The paper offers an overview of the graphical appearance of Plamen from all the assessed components, it builds an understanding of the magazine's development and it shows the conceptional unity of the main typographer Oldřich Hlavsa's design and compares the difference of...
The development of czech sport's photojournalism from the middle of 20th century

The paper deals with the development of the Czech journalistic sport photography from mid 20th century until recent time. Conditions that influenced the work of sports photographers are mapped, whether it was technical equipment, political constraints or other relevant facts. The paper mentions key events that have had importance in the Czech sports photography. The very beginnings of the Czech sports photography are described, too, to add context with the period followed. Furthermore, some noteworthy cases are mentioned, such as career change of a professional sportsman to a sport photographer. Ethically doubtful practices, once quite frequent, are followed, too. Another infrequently studied area of interest is discussed, which is the phenomenon of successful pictures of neglected events. The paper also provides the reader with a list of the foremost Czech sports photographers, a quantitative analysis of sport photos in the Rude Pravo daily (name later changed to Pravo). Main moments of change are studied from the point of view of the extent of the sport photography on the pages of Czech dailies.
